View Full Version : Another Subaru First from Kartboy
tom@kartboy 03-09-2004, 10:46 PM Finaly after a few delays we are happy to anounce the highly anticipated STi Shifter bushings for the USDM cars!
same great quality that you'd expect from us not some cheapass knockoff. (i'm sure that will happen soon anyhow):p
Price is 32.00 this includes both halves of the shifter bushing along with a Stainless Sleeve that the new STi will need.
At the moment we do not have a install page but were working on that.
Happy Shifting

PS were working on another STi goodie too. stay tuned!
BAN SUVS 03-09-2004, 10:54 PM I'll be ordering my set when I return from UCKK. And would that "other" STi goodie be a shortshifter? If so, put me on the waitlist. Just tell me what the deposit is... :D
Black-X 03-09-2004, 11:13 PM i too want a STi shortshifter. dayum stock one is horribly long!
kastle 03-10-2004, 01:23 AM Good job Tom... :)
wistful 03-10-2004, 03:05 AM suh-weeeeeeeeeeeeeet. How hard is the install? Do we have to remove the cat-back or is it gonna be as simple as on the RS?

Hopefully it will be a short shifter like the one offered by Subaru :).

Rick
I'd much prefer that it just be a shifter lever like the one already available for the WRX and RS.
horshack 03-10-2004, 10:36 AM Thanks to Tom and KARTBOY!!!!!!!!!
Ordered mine, get my car back from the dealer today with a new clutch and short shifter.

Well I can tell you that 95a bushings are 10x's as stiff as factory ones. Im sure with the 10% reduction with the short throw and the Kartboy 95a's I will be more than pleased. The stockers were soooo sloppy! In gear I could move the shifter left and right a couple of inches, also there have been reports of folks missing shifts on auto-x becuase of the loosy goosy shifter.
mizar 03-10-2004, 11:29 AM ordered..
thanks tom!
StiDreams 03-10-2004, 12:46 PM The short throw shifter has been sittin in my garage a month waiting for this. AFT /jk  .
MooreWRX 03-10-2004, 02:21 PM Ordered...I'm sure I will not be the only one posting a review when these go in.
Mach5WRX 03-10-2004, 06:52 PM Just ordered a set Tom and I'm sure you'll see a lot more orders from Hawaii soon!

tom@kartboy 03-10-2004, 08:03 PM install is kinda a bitch to do. i'm sure we did things the hard way on the test car back in november. i think the easiest way is to yank the whole shifter assembly out of the car. i was trying to fight it and not have to do it. but then i wound up taking it all out anyhow. i'd guess its about a hour job. little more little less.
we hope to have the test shifter in a car soon. but honestly i think a set of shifter bushings on the car is enough. but we'll have to see how it all works out.
thanks for all the orders guys :)
our shipping guy is going crazy!

No, just the transmission. ;) I almost traded my RS for an STi, but I realized the transmission and block were really all I wanted. Saved myself $10k and my car is faster than a stock STi (well, once everything is installed...).
PARANOID56 03-12-2004, 11:11 AM Do you think that will void my warentee? :D

Sparks 03-12-2004, 11:31 AM FYI - After you take the bushing bolt out as far as it will go, then remove the 3 bolts that hold the bushing bracket to the tranny.
Once the bracket is loose you'll have enough play to get the bushing bolt out, replace the bushing, re-insert the bushing bolt, re-attach the bushing bracket, then get the new bushing and bolt back in place.
If anyone need help, drop me a PM.
Big props to Mark and Tom for another fine piece.
Now I need one :)
mizar 03-12-2004, 04:01 PM just got my bushings :)
thanks for the fast delivery..
can't wait to toss them in

Mach5WRX 03-13-2004, 03:24 AM Hurry up with the STi Kartboy short throw shift lever & knuckleball shift knob......wooo WOOO!
***Update***
Well I got the bushings in and the car is back together. Here's my first thoughts.....
1) The install was a *****.
2) Gear shifting feels really good now. It's not a day and night difference like putting the Kartboy bushings in a 5-speed WRX, but it is a big difference.
3) Up shifts feel way better now
4) Really worth the $32 and 2hrs to install.
5)
horshack 03-18-2004, 09:56 AM I want mine.....I want mine......I am racing this weekend and want the new bushings in already!!!!!
Hopefully day will show up today!
horshack 03-18-2004, 10:02 AM Hey Wait!
Tom....your in Cali?????
Should be 2-3 day shipping from Cali to da desert.....How were the bushins shipped?
USPS (snail mail)...UPS (brown truck)....FedX (white truck)?
My Order # is 4505
Tanx in advance!
BTW - Me wants knucleball too - lighter is better (drill some holes in it!)
tecnic1 03-18-2004, 11:31 PM how did you get the two upper bolt out of the mounting bracket....
with a 1/4 inch drive ratchet, short extension and universal, I could get the socket on the middle bolt, but couldn't get enough movement on the ratchet to turn the bolt...
I never even saw the top bolt.

Hey guys,
After close inspection and position of the 3 bolts that hold the shifter linkage on, I opted to drop the rear tranny mount. 4 bolts and you can pull down the shifter arm out of its home to remove the bolt.
Pop the old mount out, grab the new mounts out of the freezer, pop'em in, shove the shifter arm back in its home and thread the bolt.
Replace the rear tranny mount bolts with a good push up on the mount and your done!
Thanks again for a great product!
You guys kick ass!
tom@kartboy 03-21-2004, 05:01 PM cool
their always in the last place you look :p
glad the install wasnt that bad..
were out of stock for a week or two. didnt think that they would sell that fast :)

Thanks again for all the orders
