2nd question...can i just find a 10000k bulb and put it in? will this work like that or will the ballast have to be changed for a hotter bulb? thanks in advance.

yes they are d2r.


if you can find a d2r based bulb that is of higher kalvin rating, yes it should work. You shouldn't have to modify the ballasts. I believe the color temp is created by the mixture of salts/metals in the bulb capsule.

10000K? Is there any visible light in that?

10,000K is very purple. You will have very little usable light since you will be approaching lumens equal to halogen. Keep in mind your stock HIDs are 4300K and produce 3500 lumens. A 6000K capsule will produce only 2800 lumens and so on as you move toward the purple side of color temp scale. All HID capsules are limited to 35 watts.

IMHO, 6000K is very popular leaving good light and a nice blue color like you see on highend BMW and Porsche.

what most people don't realize is that ALL OEM HID systems are 4100k or 4300k. The blue/purple you see on BMW and other high end cars is because of the projectors.

True for the most part but, 6000K Philips capsules were put in some of the high end versions of those vehicles like the GT3.

One more thought...

I did a bit of research here and elsewhere when considering changing my HIDs to 6000K. In the end, I opted to stay with OEM 4300K and just aimed the light.

Making a reference mark on a wall with the leveler at zero, I then turned the dial to one and reaimed the light to match my mark on the wall. Level one is now equal to the original zero and zero is slightly higher providing way more light down the road. I also added 70watt H3 Silverstars to the OEM fogs and aimed them to fill just below the low beams. The result was impressive!

A set of PIAA 930 HID driving lights complete the package with amazing long range visibility.
