I "THINK" I have finally found a SS for my girls 96 LS. My question is, does anyone know how hard they are to install? Is it a simple plug-n-play or more advanced and needing to get all up[ under the car like some other vehichles out there?
Thank you for your time and knowledge.

I recently installed a Kartboy SS on my 00 OBS. The install for the shifter was very straight forward. All I had to do was remove the center console and boot. Once that was off, I tilted the stock shifter all the way back until leverage popped it out of the socket. The pain was to put the new one in. Seat it in the socket and wallop it with a rubber mallet. It took a number of tries until it popped into place. It's only if you're changing the shifter bushing that you'll need to climb under the car.

What brand is the SS? Have you checked their site for a walkthrough? If the manufacturer doesn't have one, you can check Kartboy's site and see how close their walkthrough compares with what you have. Should be about the same.

HTH!

The 96 is a different animal. The shifterball is bigger than the 97+ and it's a pain in the *** to get out. I managed to break the ball on mine on removal. I needed a big hammer and a lot of cursing to get it out.

Make sure you have the right shifter for that year before you begin. You can tell by looking at the linkage that connects the shifer to the trans. The newer ones have a wider connection that won't bolt up to the 96 one without the use of washers. Not that the washers will help because the ball is too small to fit properly into the socket.
