You can, but the compression will be lower... ~7.4:1

We made special pistons for the blocks and WRX heads.. Bringing it up to ~8.5:1

Lots of discussion on this topic has already taken place in 3-4 long threads.

can you swap a ej2tt engine in with SOHC RS heads and run it on the RS ecu is my question?

This has been to subject of some debate in recent months. But Opie is currently doing it, and a few others have done it or are in process. But long term reliability is still unproven. The big issue is that some folks don't think enough of the coolant passages line up to have long term reliability...

wow pretty good stuff, so I guess a SOHC RS head doesn't really work with a ej22t shortblock, hmmm interesting

Work better? They dont flow better... the SOHC heads out flow the DOHCs.

Yeah but wouldn't DOHC be better for high hp turbo apps to control the timing better? I dunno. BUT I'm doing the EJ20 head swap onto a 1991 EJ22 turbo/closed deck block within the next few weeks...I'll let ya know! :)

i am doing a ej20 ( wrx) head swap onto a ej22t block. tere have been a couple of things that needed to be modified to make it work. legacy oil pump is on order. i used the stock heads with the ej22t head gasket. took the butterfly valves out of the tgv housings and had to cut and weld up the top crankcase vent to let the coolent passageway fit. we havn't started it yet but i will let you know when we do.

also we noticed that with this setup the stock cast exhause manifold wouldn't go back on. the ej22t is apparently several mm taller. we had to stretch my gpmotos to get them to fit.
