View Full Version : Just dyno'd my v7 sti. Want to know how much more I can push my setup "safely"
DoctorNick 03-23-2004, 12:25 AM After dynoing at 243.2AWHP on 91 oct in phoenix I feel the urge to push my setup more :D
Now I know the 91oct is a pretty crappy tuneing platform but I was pondering a utec remote setup so I can switch from a jdm 91oct to a street mix and mabye also a race gas tune also.
None the less. Less then 15psi @ redline. I think there should be more (pressure wise) in the turbo. So I don't know if it is just the simple fact of having a agressive yet safe ecu tune, the 91oct tuneability or just what I ended up getting a tune for by the tuner.

I would really like to have 300 wheel. (333 would be ideal ;) )
the quest continues....
MJU1983 03-23-2004, 02:17 AM Ver 7 sti is a very strong motor.
You can push it quite far. 243whp on 91 octane on a Dyno Dynamics is pretty good. If you have a VF30, you will see boost falling off near redline. Well, even after 5000 its common to see what is shown on your dyno graph. They "show" their efficiency on the top end. :)

jikhead 03-23-2004, 02:40 AM You'll have to forgive me as I've been drinking some beer, but when you say Ver. 7, I guess you imported it from Japan? Doesn't that model have the VF30 turbo? From what I've read, you can safely max the VF30 & 34 at 350 hp at the crank.
fre24 04-05-2004, 12:35 PM Yea I was there when they were tuning it. Your transmission is probably due for a switchout by the sound of it lol. But besides that I would say to get where you want to get (300-333whp) on that dyno safely with 91 octane. I would say you need to get a bigger turbo and injectors. I would recommend either the pe1820 or if you can hold out the GT35 that is comming out I believe. I am not sure how big your fuel injectors are but I would recommend 7xx ones to be on the safe side with that kind of power. If you want to go crazy power (400-450whp) on that dyno then get a t67 wrx package, but you will also have crazy lag so beware.
I only made slightly more power then you and I weigh another 500 lbs or so. I too, am shooting for your power levels (300-330) on that dyno so if I upgrade I will tell you how it goes. Of course I don't know how well my poor ej20 engine would handle that kind of power, so I might end up ordering a built motor along with that bigger turbo/injector option.
You have to remember 250 hp on that dyno is like 290-300 hp on a dynojet, which is where most people report their numbers, so you just need a bigger turbo/injectors and you will be smooth sailing.
DoctorNick 04-05-2004, 03:07 PM Yeah, right now I am trying to fight the mod bug and finish the cosmetics (paint job). Then buy a beater before I do anything else to the scoob.
None the less, the car is still running strong and I'm lovin this powerband :disco:
Soon2Bgreat 04-22-2004, 09:24 PM Is this stock or tuned?
DoctorNick 04-22-2004, 09:35 PM Tuned for 14psi on 91. tuned for safety

Who tuned? Nice numbers especially on the "Heart Breaker"
DoctorNick 04-24-2004, 09:04 PM tuned at dynocomp in AZ
modvp 04-26-2004, 05:21 PM Can you confirm if you were using a utec...
DoctorNick 04-26-2004, 07:16 PM It was a reflash
totoherbs 05-01-2004, 08:21 PM t67 wrx package

Ya... that turbo is overkill for just about every subaru set up. Ditch the vf30 and go with a gt28RS disco potato when it comes out. The gt30 or gt35 would be good if your looking for some lag and 350-400+hp.
DoctorNick 05-01-2004, 08:39 PM hmm, what info do you have on the gt28rs?

There is an artical in scc that talks about it on a 240/silvia.
fre24 05-06-2004, 02:39 AM Howdy, I was there when you had your car tuned. I agree with the gt35 :) That will give you mountains of power. I bet you could get to 333 on that dyno dynamics with a gt35, assuming your engine would hold together. That would be the only thing preventing me from strapping one of those bad boys on my stock motor. Your goals are good, but then you will just want more :p I think I will just save until I can afford a built motor and a gt35 and then goto town 350-400 hp on the dynamics would be fine with me.
As far as the potato goes, I dunno if that will get you the output you are really looking for, but it's your money :)
DoctorNick 05-06-2004, 03:20 AM I am pretty sure my motor can take the abuse of a gt30/35. Now if a vendor would make it available and fit into stock location I would be danceing on the walls (I want to keep it as sleeper as possible.)
