UPDATE 7/9/04
After serveral months of development our little BBK kit is just about ready for prime time. The kit will be available w/o rotors, with two-piece OEM sized rotors(shown in the picture below) and we're happy to report, with 330mm rotors(13"). We're still waiting for the two-piece 13" rotors to finished but will be taking delivery of the exact kit you see below for final fitting and testing. As a recap this kit was developed to be a practical BBK kit for the street. See previous details below. We expect final production kits to be available by mid August. Pricing will be in line(but not exact) with what was announced previously.

END 07/09/04 UPDATE
=============================================
While we continue to fill product niches for exhaust components, we've decided to pay a little attention to your Subaru's brakes by introducing a little Big Brake Kit for the street enthusiast. Until now, most brake kits have been designed primarily for the track. We know there are plenty of enthusiast out there that may never see the track so we set out to build a kit that was worthy of the track for the weekend warrior, but has features to suit the general enthusiast that spends the majority of the time on the street. The core of our kit is the modern Wilwood DynoPro. Unlike the Dynalite and similiar calipers, the DynoPro was designed for Road Rally and all weather conditions. It is one of very few 4 Pot calipers that are fitted with high-temperature rubber boots that seal out dirt, moisture and debris from the piston bores. This will help you avoid premature rebuilds vs. other calipers designed primarily for the clean road environment of the track. We are also taking advantage of the Radial Mount design of the caliper and designing a mounting bracket that will allow 2 different rotor sizes to be used with the same kit. Run your oem sized rotors in the winter with your 16" wheels then move your caliper to the alternate mount point for your summer wheels and larger rotors.
Key Featuers of the MadDad(TM) Street Performance Front Brake Kit :
Wilwood DynaPro Radial Mount 4 Pot Calipers
Quick-Clip pad retainers allow changing pads without removing caliper
295mm Lightweight Zinc Coated Two-Piece Rotors
Kits will be available in your choice of Drilled & Slotted(recommended for street use) or Slotted only(recommended for Street/Track use).
Optional 308mm or 325mm rotors (TBD)
Wilwood Q series sport pads(low dust) - with additional compounds available
Teflon coated Stainless Steel Brake Lines.
Dual Position Mounting Brackets allows use of OEM rotor size and optional larger rotor size
Complete Install Hardware and Install Guide
We don't have weight figures in yet, but we do know that this kit will take tens of pounds of unsprung weight off your front end, helping handling and outright performance.
Kit Retail : $899 No rotor kit, $1249 w/OEM sized rotors, $1299 308mm or 325mm rotors(TBD)
A pre-order discounted Group Buy will be made available as we get closer to release. We will also be interested in "Beta" testers who will get a larger discount for throwing caution to the wind and ordering early. We expect to be testing the kit late April.

Roamin'Coyote 03-23-2004, 11:48 AM Rich,
This sounds like an awesome idea!! :D I like the idea of the dual mounting brackets and the fact that I won't have to get rid of my stock wheels. A few quick questions:
1) will the calipers have any identifying marks/labels? Painted? read BLINGage....
2) who's making the rotors for these things?
3) what pad size are they using? i.e. are replacements readily available
might be interested in testing them.....;)

Sorry for the late reply:

1) You'll love them so long as you like Wilwood Black. They are a modern caliper so there should be enough bling in there for most people.
2) To be determined. We were going to use Wilwood but they don't offer the size/width combo we'll need.
3) They use Wilwoods 7816 type pad for use with the Quick-Clip pad retainers that let you change pads without removing the caliper. Wilwood offer the pads in there Q, E, and A compounds. You could also use a Hawk HB-100 and possibly a Porterfield Stock Car 4. But in either case you would need to modify the backing plate. More specifically, a notch must be made big enough for the center portion of the "Quick-Clip" to sit in. If this kit performs as well as we hope, and if we get enough positive feedback then maybe we'll ping the boys at Carbotech to see about doing some short run stuff for us, but we're way too early in the game right now. The 3 Wilwood compounds should cover the field to start.
After some discussion with Wilwood it looks like the BIG rotor size is actually going to be a big rotor, 330mm. Happy day.

slvwagon 04-17-2004, 03:56 PM WOW, finally an easy option for those of us who switch b/w 16" for the winter and 17" for the summer. I'd definately be interested in beta testing (I track and autocross) & or group buy. Anything for the rear?

No immediate plans for the rear. We need to make sure we've got the front all sorted out before we move on. We just test fitted the design template for the 330mm rotor and caliper position and it should have no issues with just about any 17" wheel. We should see final product sometime mid May.

Awsome, thanks!
Daddy's SCP 08-11-2004, 01:53 AM This kit is close to ready for production. We've been working with our developer/supplier over the past couple of days to make sure what you get will be absolutely 100% plug and play, meaning you won't have to go to the local parts store for a clip, a longer bolt, shim, ect. We are in the final phase of modifying what will be included for the install kit to make your install is as hastle free as possible. We'll have all final details up by Friday on the 294mm setup. The 330mm rotors are done and we will be taking delivery of them shortly for an install later this month. In the meantime here are a couple more pics. I'll have some with the wheel on the car later in the week when I post again.

bemani 08-20-2004, 08:14 PM So if I buy just the calipers now, it'll work with my oem rotors, and then when I feel like it, I can just buy the 330mm rotors and new wheels and move my calipers without having to buy different mounting bracket???
Sc3pt0r 08-24-2004, 10:48 AM make sure you pm me with the final initial grouip buy discount price bc id like to buy the kit...if your just useing stock rotors with it then ill just get the kit without rotors but regardless make sure to pm me when its all good as i rarely if every check this area of the forum
Daddy's SCP 08-25-2004, 07:52 PM Hey folks,
Sorry for the late reply here. August has been a tough month. I've been away pretty much since the 15th. I was home last Sunday. I'm still away this week. I'll be back in the office on Satuday. I have some good photo's of the kit installed. The short of it is, if you run with the OEM sized rotor(294mm) you'll need a 3mm wheel spacer which we are including with the kit. This will also be true for some 17X7 wheels that don't have much clearance this close to the center of the hub. I run Enkei RPM2's which have very poor clearance near the Hub. The 330mm rotors though will not have this issue and will be able to be installed without the 3mm spacer. This is great news because the RPM2's are one of the worst when it comes to caliper clearance for BBK's.
More info and pictures when I get back.
Rich
bemani 08-25-2004, 08:01 PM You mean you definitely need spacers with 16" oem wheels right?
I don't want spacers and I have OZ SL 17X7, and I definitely won't get this kit if I need to use spacers (band-aid IMO, and spacers won't pass tech at some track events).
Please show where it would interfere with the wheel withot the spacer.

If your running the 330mm rotors with the OZ SL 17X7 you wouldn't need the spacers. I can send you a fitment template when I'm back to see if you'll have any issue with the 294mm. When running the 294mm rotors the caliper ends up closer to the cener of the hub, and with my RPM2's the spokes give no more clearance than the factory 16's. Most 17's give a bit more clearance than the factory, the RPM2's are an odd exception. We're including the spacers in the kit for the sake of completeness to cover all potential bases. I've got some close ups I can post when I get back. I've actually placed the 16's(and 17s) on with the 294mm rotors without the spacers but man is it tight, but again this isn't an issue with the 17's and 330mm rotors.

Daddy's SCP 09-02-2004, 01:03 AM Just thought I'd give an update on where we are at and current impression of the kit(of course, I'm somewhat biased). First off, it looks great and performance great(from a street drivers perspective). I've fitted the kit with the 294mm two-piece rotors to the factory 16"'s and my RPM2 17X7's. What I have found is with the OEM rotors being so small the caliper is really close to where the spokes of the wheel turn inward to the center/hub. This is the spot with the least amount of clearance. The wheels fit but your really on the edge of rubbing so I still stand behind the statement that you'll need the 3mm wheel spacer. In an effort to keep the relative track of the vehicle the same we will actually include 4 wheel spacers with the kit. This will help maintain relative track front to rear. I suspect in most 17X7 applications the spacers will be a moot point. The design of the RPM2's make them quite restrictive with clearance close to the hub. I'm glad we've tested them with these wheels because they are know to be among the most restrictive clearance wise. We'll be testing the 330mm rotors shortly. After we get to log a couple thousand miles and are satisfied with street performance and complete the install kit details we'll open a group buy for you early adopters. For now, plan on about this time next month for the group buy to open.

Patrick L 09-03-2004, 11:23 AM I could go for a set with the 325mm rotors.
bemani 09-03-2004, 03:01 PM Please post weight if possible.
bemani 09-03-2004, 03:02 PM Oh, does this use the exact same pads as the other Wilwood 4 pot kit for the WRX?
Daddy's SCP 09-06-2004, 10:27 PM bemani - it uses new Wilwood pad, the 7816 model, which is the design for the quick clip pad retainers. You can change your pads with these calipers in about 3 mintues flat. That said the compounds available are the standard Wilwood range of Q, A and E. I'm running the Q's for street use and thus far I'm extremely happy with them. Low dust, low noise, and easy to modulate. No harsh initial biting like some setups I've driven. I'll be switching to a set of E compound when I test the 330mm setup later this month. I'll do the weigh in test when I've got the car back on the lift for the 330mm swap.

Daddy's SCP 09-12-2004, 01:53 AM Just an update. As we continue to test and refine the kit before officially releasing it, I just thought I would give an update that we will be able to offer Porterfield R4S pads with these kits. We are waiting for the new 13"(330mm) rotors to arrive. They are being specially designed for the kit. In addition we will offer the alumumin hats in Blue, Black, or Red(more of a Maroon). There will be some minor price adjusting before all is said and done, and there will be a discounted group buy opportunity when they are first introduced. We'll keep everyone posted. As it is right now, the 294mm kit seems even better now that I have 1000+ miles on it.

Daddy's SCP 10-11-2004, 01:38 AM We're now only weeks away from offering our MadDad(TM) Radial BBK kit. The only kit offering multiple rotors sizes, and with that said our 330mm rotors have just been completed. While waiting for the 330mm rotors for our kit we've been taking the time to refine the other bits. Our ss brake lines have been refined, slightly shorter than our first prototypes and now including a factory style retainer to mount at the factory point, keeping the lines from floating free and tangling up with your suspension. Displayed are the 330mm rotors option. These were specially ordered with optional drilling. I honestly don't have any use for the drilling other than to add some more "bling" to my personal ride(just being honest). I've been so happy with the two-piece 294mm setup that this is going to be overkill. Also shown(in the middle) is the 330mm upgrade install kit if you already purchase a kit with 294mm rotors(or with no rotors). Black hats are also shown, Maroon will be available as well. We'll be taking orders by end of this month. $1299 with two piece 294mm rotors, $1349 with the 330mm. $899 w/o rotors.

gdawrx 10-31-2004, 09:25 PM updates?
Daddy's SCP 11-01-2004, 01:06 AM updates?
Funny you should ask. Finally got around to installing the 13" rotor upgrade option that will be offered. The great part about it is that even with my very restrictive 17X7 Enkei RPM2's, the 330mm rotors fit with plenty of clearane without the 3mm spacers required when runing the factory sized 294mm rotors with these wheels(due to the spokes curving in near the hub). Not many 13" BBK's will fit these wheels so that is a great testiment of the wheel clearance the kit offers. Here's a couple of photo's. There's literally about 5 miles now on these rotors so I can't offer any comparitive comments yet, but I'm happy with the results and the switch from the 294mm setup to the 330mm setup only takes about an hour to due. It's a very easy install/switch over. I'll add a couple more pics next week. We are going to start taking and delivering orders in November once were back from the SEMA trade show.

In addition to the Wilwood Q,A & E compound pads, we are happy to announce we will have Porterfield R4S pads available as well. Kits will be built to order in your choice of hat colors: Blue, Red(maroon), or Black.
