View Full Version : Whiteline Coil Overs in Stock!
RenickMotorsports 03-24-2004, 01:40 PM The Whiteline Group Series range of shocks offers performance at all levels. But if you're looking for real road performance get excited about our all new Group 4 shocks. These are height and rate adjustable with no need for yearly maintenance (unlike others) that's right, maintenance free. Specifically designed for performance road use, the high pressure mono-tube design utilises a class leading 40mm piston. Our unique top mounted composite bump and rebound rate adjuster changes only what you need while height adjustment doesn't require multiple C spanners. No need to lie under the car with a torch to adjust the rate, just lift the bonnet and adjust as required. Non-inverted mono tube design also means no stiction and noise problems like other road/rally hybrids. Careful attention to spring and damper base rates makes them ideal for serious road and race use right up to slicks and weekend race sprints. Designed as part of the Whiteline system to mix and match with our range of swaybars, alignment aids and chassis bracing. Sti not yet available.
GC8 also coming into stock soon...

Pam,
Are there any pics of the actual units for the WRX? I was told that the rear units for the sedan have extenders for the adjusters so that they can be adjusted with the rear seats installed.
thanks
D
RenickMotorsports 03-26-2004, 12:40 PM I have them in stock, I will get a picture of a set today.
Pam
SleepyRex 03-27-2004, 12:05 PM do you have the whiteline flatout springs for a 04 sedan?
Danny

Arnie 04-07-2004, 08:52 PM finally some stateside impressions of these coilovers. I think once the word get's out these will be a hot seller. Not everyone wants the brain rattling from the JDM coilovers or the stiction/knock from DMS. me wants too. but no $$$.
RenickMotorsports 04-08-2004, 11:40 AM I have been in cars with JIC & DMS, both Ed & myself like the ride of the Whiteline much better.
I will highly recommend these coil overs & I will get pictures up.

Arnie 04-08-2004, 12:40 PM In various talks with Jim Gurieff, I got the impression that these coilovers have, in comparison to say the STi suspension, a much more supple initial travel. Less bounce and jiggle while still being very controlled. Would you describe it as such?
He told me this story of an STi owner that came in to their shop, very dissatisfied with the ride qualites, and asked for some options. He gave him the keys to their shop car with the Group 4 coilovers. The owner came back delighted with the ride but said that it was an unfair comparison, that it was obvious that he had much softer spring rates on the Whiteline car. He was surprised to hear about the 275/225 spring rates! Quite a bit stiffer than the STi suspension.
Litchfield Imports is also using this suspension on their Type 25. It got rave reviews in Autocar for its handling.
Lastly, what tops are you using? STi? Camber plates? I'm curious about your noise impression. Are these like other coilovers with their typical pops, bangs and squeeks?
If you can, please give us a more detailed review/comparison after you get more miles on this system.
Thanks Pam!
Arnie
RenickMotorsports 04-08-2004, 03:27 PM I would agree with Jim, less bounce & jiggle & very very controlled.
There is hardly no noise, sometimes a little if we go over a large speed bump.... unlike some of the other coilovers that make noise always, the Whiteline do not....
I am using my stock mounts, I have not changed them out, not sure if I will or not..
Pam
Arnie 04-08-2004, 04:54 PM Hmm, I think some of us might have to make the trek down and beg a ride in your car!
Pam, would it be possible to get pics of units for the WRX/STi by themselves as well as installed?
Also, if you've got the figures for:
suggested ride height
max ride height
min ride height
thank you.
WL Flatout 04-13-2004, 12:32 AM Thanks Pam,
Just a small correction....
You initial description reflects a typo error that we have since fixed. The original brochure incorrectly quoted the shock piston size of 40 mm where as the correct number for the strut piston size is 46 mm.
That is, all Group 4 shocks like Nissan S14/S15 rear use a 40 mm piston where as all strut type applications like WRX use a class leading 46 mm piston front and rear.
Also, have attached some installed pictures from P-Rex III..... :-)
...first is the front...
Best regards
Jim Gurieff

WL Flatout 04-14-2004, 08:22 PM I forgot to include a picture of the adjusters as requested....
WL Flatout 04-14-2004, 08:41 PM Finally, you can also download copies of the fitting instructions for all Group 4 kits from http://www.whiteline.com.au/fittingsheets.htm
These include additional pictures and specifications for each kit.

Any customer feedback as of yet? As well how serious are these coilovers for track and autocross use?
Diznario 05-28-2004, 07:46 PM Hmmm... These coilovers sound like they might be exactly what I've been looking for.
I have a few questions though...
Here's the deal. I've got a 2001 2.5RS. It's my daily driver, but it's also my snowboarding trip car, and I take it off road occasionally. I want to raise my car, but I don't want to loose any travel in the suspension. If anything, I want more travel. I want my car to be more off road worthy, but I don't ever want to have to mess around with rebuilding anything. And last but not least, it needs to be quiet, and have a smooth ride on the freeway.
Are these coilovers what I'm looking for, or am I smoking crack?
Anyways, I guess my list of questions would be...
What spring rates can you get? What length springs are available? Can you raise the vehicle above stock ride height with these? If so, how far? How much travel? How much negative travel? etc, etc.
If anyone can post more of this type of info, or point me in the right direction, that would be awesome.
Thanks!
WL Flatout 05-29-2004, 01:49 AM Hi everyone,
deft, the Group 4 coil-overs are specifically designed for road registered vehicles also used for motorpsort. That is, something that is more than exceptable for mid-week commute while still remaining very competitive for autocross or any other style of weekend motorsport on tarmac. In summary, they were designed to be consistent with the underlying philosphy of all our poducts.
They can also be used for gravel or loose surface but the lengths and travel dimensions have been optimised for a lowered height with more bump travel while only sacrificing 10mm of total travel. The dampers themselves are designed to cope with spring rates ranging from 150 to 500lbs which makes them ideal for anything from performance road tyres right up to slicks.
Here is a recent quote from a dealer in Perth who regularly conducts race driver training for the Western Australian WRX Club who also competed in a cross-makes series with the club.
------------------------
We had Round 3 of the MC series on Sunday, about 50 cars. I drove a MY03 WRX with Group 4's with the WRX Team. First time to drive a Rex in anger on the track, as opposed to road testing for setup. Very worthwhile - the MY03's handling was amazing. I was unable to unsettle the car even through the slaloms. Managed 2nd quickest WRX of the round. Fastest outright was a GC STI RA (Group 4), 2nd MY03 (Group 4), 3rd MY99 STI (Group 4).
(Australia April 2004)
------------------------
I would agree that he is biased as he supplied and fitted all three kits but we think the results speak for themselves. On another note, 2 out of 3 of these cars removed other brand coil-overs to fit the Group 4's.
Diznario, I'm not sure if they'll do the job for you as they have less suspension travel than stock and you really need more if you want to raise your car. There is not doubt that the shocks themselves will deliver excellent control but they'd be best run at stock height or lower.
Hope that helps.
Best
Jim
