I need to find out if FHI kept the same rod sizes between 97-99. Reason being, I'm putting a set of STD '99 pistons into an otherwise unmolested 97 shortblock. I know that the stroke never changed, but compression ratios did, and the pistons are visibly different.
The 97's are flat top w/valve clearances....the 99's are dished like low-CR turbo pistons. I'm guessing the wristpin location is different? Will it smack the 97 heads going back on it?
I think I'll be alright, but I'd hate to end up with 5-8mm of slug sticking out of the block at TDC.
Timely replies appreciated.

I couldn't remember which years were what length. The Phase 1 engines have long rods, 2 shorter rods (only the correct rods fit the crank journals, you probably know that).
97 through 98 will be the same. 99's appear to all to have been Phase 2 blocks with some DOHC and most SOHC heads as far as the impreza's. Other models might be different. Try a post in the Legacy forum if you know where your parts came from.

Thanks So Much Greg! I'll be checking this height very carefully.

Bumping this back up.....
How is it possible to torque the inner rodbolts? Does it take a special tool, or must they be torqued "outside" the blockhalves? None of the literature I have mentions this step.
Thanks,

The rod length that I'm seeing on a spec sheet I have here is 5.162"
That would be about 13.11 cm
That's for a '98 EJ25 DOHC.

ive seen the rod length listed for the phase I as 131.7mm and have also read that the phase II rod is .5mm longer than the phase I. not a huge difference from what youve listed but enough to cause problems im sure.
