View Full Version : Anyone using an STi key in a GC8? ursine 03-28-2004, 09:50 PM Is anybody using one? I just want to know if it will work in a MY00. Mulder 03-28-2004, 09:56 PM There have been threads on this in the past, it can be made to work but you have to file it down as it's too thick for the GC. nKoan 03-28-2004, 09:56 PM I've seen it, but you have to shave the key to fit. ursine 03-28-2004, 10:00 PM Alright, that sounds like something I can do, thank you for your help :) White 2.5rs 03-29-2004, 03:29 AM make sure u tell the keysmith to go SLOWLY the #1 rated place in my town f****d mine up and wouldnt warranty their work on my key:mad:      JewPac42 03-29-2004, 03:41 AM Yes, I have an STi key in a MY00 RS. You do have to shave it down and they key will only work in the ignition, not the doors, trunk or glovebox. White 2.5rs 03-29-2004, 03:59 AM i noticed that, pretty weird ghedo icy 03-29-2004, 05:30 AM Get the Spec C key, it's way hotter! -Matt geronimo66 03-29-2004, 07:41 AM Mine works just fine and no shaveing it down. ursine 03-29-2004, 02:57 PM Originally posted by ghedo icy Get the Spec C key, it's way hotter! What does it look like and where can I find one? ursine 03-29-2004, 03:05 PM If this is what your talking about I am not very impressed http://www.polepositionproducts.com/jdmsubaru/images/key.jpg Sure it would be way differant from everyone else but they just dont look that cool. I have never been a big crome fan. ghedo icy 03-29-2004, 04:49 PM I think it's bad ass! -Matt North Ursalia 03-29-2004, 11:01 PM Last time I cut an STi key for my GC it fit perfectly. No shaving, not cutting other than tracing the key (please note it will only fit the ignition). Go figure. I couldn't even get the first one in the ignition lock . DoorKnob 03-30-2004, 01:22 AM It'll fit all the locks, it just takes a little more massaging (filing) to make it work. 2.5rsCoupe@dfw 03-30-2004, 01:28 AM have an sti key for my 01 its nice heavy and clunky the way i like it its also really really sturdy i think id have a hard time snapping it CrazyMike13 03-30-2004, 04:46 PM Do you file some of the tip off, or do you shave off some of it off the side? I heard of both ways i think. ursine 03-30-2004, 05:37 PM I think its off the sides, I also heard you can wear it down a bit with using it in your trunk for like 15 minutes, just keep opening it and that will help wear it down. kermit 03-31-2004, 01:13 PM I had mine traced and it works in every cylinder except the trunk without shaving or filing it. US2JDM 04-02-2004, 05:00 AM Mine works fine everywhere but the trunk. No filing or anything...it all just depends on how worn your locks are. :D I only ever use it in the ignition, though thanks to RKE. mykrrrr 04-06-2004, 02:16 AM Got my STi blank cut today and the guy said it won't work because the ridge (for the lack of a better word) is too think between the two cuts in the black. Low and behold...it is. :( What have others done to fix this??? -mykr. North Ursalia 04-08-2004, 03:13 PM Nothing- it just worked. I tried one of the other blanks I cut that didn't work before this past weekend, and it does now. I can't explain it :). Say just stick it in your machine and do it, trust me it will work. They will argue with you a little more but he will eventually do it. When you get it the key will barely fit, stick it in and out a bunch of times to wear it down and it will work fine.   turbowagon 05-05-2004, 08:32 PM After using mine for a couple of months it fits the driver door, ignition, trunk but still not the passenger door. Just keep using it and have the original handy till the STI key works. ursine 05-05-2004, 09:05 PM Yeah, it goes like half way into my trunk now, I just have to keep working it ;) |
