View Full Version : Alarm activation sound from horn to beep

Anyone know how to change the horn to the beep the 04 cars do when the alarm is pluged in?

I like the expensive sound of the o4's rather than the horn sound of the 02-03.

Can anyone with acces compare schematics?

Thanks!
Leo

The 04's have a separate output just for the confirmation beeper. The beeper itself is a separate part that is mounted up front near the radiator.
Send a PM to netz, I think he can suggest a way to modify your earlier alarm to do this.

This would be sweet.

that would be nice I hate the horn but I don't want to turn it to silent because I like to know that it is armed.

Mulder is correct, the 04 keyless entry system has a seperate output that is used to power the miniature buzzer. If you don't care for the stock horn output you can attach the 02/03 keyless entry horn output to trigger the keyless buzzer.

If you have the oem subaru security upgrade you can use the output of the supplemental security horn circuit to a 12 volt relay and power your oem horns when the alarm goes off.

Would you be able to elaborate in a way that:

1) Informs us of what parts we need to source
2) Know exactly what we need to look for and do

I lack pretty much all useful operational knowledge in doing anything so, any detail advice would be most helpful :)

Thanks in advance

Or get a o4 keyless module and run a wire to the front and install the miniature buzer? Every other conection SHOULD be the same, right?

the keyless entry module connector(s) for 02/03 & 04 are different. you may have to do some wire surgery to do this. i will have to review the 02/03 & 04 keyless entry wire specifics to be sure.

2002/2003 Keyless Entry System tomorrow!

There seems to be some misconceptions of the Subaru Security Module and the Keyless Entry Module.

1) The Subaru Security Module works off wired signals from the Keyless Entry Module, hence the ability to use the stock keyless entry key fobs.

2) Cutting the Ignition Sense wire off the Keyless Entry Module for the Turbo Timer mod will prevent you from reprogramming new remotes since the Keyless Entry Module needs to see the Ignition wire in order for programming to take place

3) Cutting the Ignition Sense wire off the Subaru Security Module for the Turbo Timer mod will prevent you from manually disarming the Subaru Security Upgrade in situations where the Keyless Entry Module may have 'forgotten' programmed remotes or where key fob battery is low etc.

4) The Subaru Security Module does not control the arm & disarm chirps honks etc. This function is handled by the Keyless Entry Module. Only the aux horn is triggered by the Subaru Security Module. The aux horn is typically installed on the passenger side strut tower.

5) Wiring just the 04 keyless buzzer to a 02/03 Keyless Entry Module is difficult due to the 04's dedicated keyless buzzer output. I will be posting up wiring information regarding the 02/03 Keyless Entry Module. Wiring modifications to retrofit the 04 KEM to the 02/03 KEM wire harness will be required due to the different connectors and of course wiring up the keyless buzzer as well.

Reprogramming of the remotes will be required for the 04 KEM since it will not recognize your original remote(s).

NetZ, any updates?

02-03 info?

ptsmalls- just hook the cables back up when you need to re-program. If anything, one can just fancy a switch in place to turn on/off the programing ability.

3 different features, left & right turn signal light output and the keyless buzzer. i will try to match the 02/03 wiring with the 04 specs for conversion purposes.

I'm not quite sure how to read this? We need to source the 04 KEM and that's it -- just wire as you have presented?

netZ

the 04 kem, 04 kem connector plus harness and the keyless buzzer. wire as shown and reprogram your old 02-03 remotes to the 04 kem.

as you can tell, the pin specs are different but the wire colors are the same!

I know this thread has been dead for a while, but I would like to do this conversion. has anyone actually completed it? What issues did you run into.

Thanks
