taiwanian 01-31-2001, 11:17 PM Text
Hi, people...
my name is Peter, new to this awesome board and web page.
I will be moving to the bay area for a new job soon.
I am just trying to make my decision to buy the new WRX or get the 2.5RS and totally fix it up.
Cuz I like the old RS look more than the upcoming WRX. (esp. the neon-looking headlight that the WRX got.=P).
well, just want to hear you guy's epinions.
There is no doubt about the performance of the new WRX....
well, please give me a piece of your mind.
thank you all.
Peter
JZ oo7 01-31-2001, 11:21 PM well, peter, first welcome...you will be addicted here! as for your question, if i was in your shoes, i would get the new wrx. i know, about the headlights and a lot of people hates the styling. i've seen this car in person and it wasn't as bad as i thought it was. it looked awesome! the headlights aren't as oval as they are in person. the money you can spend on getting a 2.5RS to WRX standards might cost you a lot. you can get the new WRX and just get body kits for it, the new WRX looks good, but with the different kits out there already, it looks sweet! just my opinions!
oh yeah, have you heard about the group buy these guys has setup at Santa Cruz Subaru and the prices they will be getting? they just make me so jealous, i want a WRX wagon! don't have the money, darn!

skywalker 01-31-2001, 11:30 PM It's a definite toss up.
I am personally staying with a 2.5RS and converting to a WRX of sorts. My reasoning for this is that I like modifying my car, what can I say and it is a lot easier to get parts for it now then it was a few years ago.
I would say it comes down to how much money and time you would want to spend on an RS to mod it and make it look sweet. I think you might want to consider whether you want a car not seen to much in the Bay Area and modified quite a bit (RS). Or you could buy a car that it seems everyone will have and modify that.
Also you might want to look to see what kind of warranty you want. If you want a warranty that can be used at any Subaru Dealership and your car has a turbo on it, pick the obvoius choice.
Personally I really wouldn't know which one to buy either. But since I have the RS I am staying with that one. Good Luck with your search...

Kostamojen 01-31-2001, 11:56 PM Heres another option:
Get a new RS (IE 2002 RS) which should be $2000 or so cheaper than the current RS and fix it up even more! http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif
delectron 02-01-2001, 12:06 AM Buy my 2.5 RS! Lots of mods already. Check out the post farther down about me selling it. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif

hope to meet you guys around when i move.

bluesaint 02-01-2001, 10:35 AM peter you can always buy a wrecked Japanese WRX (276hp) car for around $5.7k which includes everything u need to surpass the US 227hp wrx. Not to mention you get the seats, steering wheel, pedals, engine, turbo,Sti carbon fiber struts bar and more.
skywalker 02-01-2001, 10:40 AM blusaint,
But how do you go about importing that car into the US? I would probably be up importing a wrecked WRX as long as I could import it.
Necromancer 02-01-2001, 12:19 PM Depends on where you want to go...
300+hp and low weight -> modded 2.5RS
<280hp and reliability -> WRX
Or you could go ape-***** and buy MY car, a '97 2.2L, for $9K, and have $14K available for mods!! http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/eek.gif
christoph1371 02-01-2001, 12:43 PM I ordered a yellow wrx and still i am thinking of just dropping in a factory '02' EJ20 with warranty from SOA. I am sure it fits in my 98. but, i would like to see and drive the new car before i actually commit to anything.
skywalker 02-01-2001, 02:17 PM Hey Joe,
Who are you selling your Impreza to? Or is it still for sale? How many miles?

Necromancer 02-01-2001, 03:58 PM Haven't found a buyer yet -- know any one?
I'm selling it for $9K, totally loaded with a spare set of suspension and other bits included. 51K miles. Basically a 2.5RS without the engine and the foofy appearance mods. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif
skywalker 02-01-2001, 04:41 PM Joe,
I might know someone. Let me talk to him some more and see what he thinks. That is a 4 door right?

christoph1371 02-01-2001, 04:59 PM Bill, see if any one wants my rs toohttp://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif
bluesaint 02-01-2001, 05:28 PM importing wrecked non running cars is not as hard as you think. Importing a full running car on the other hand takes work. Because you need to get certified for emissions, collison certed etc etc etc. but a non running you can import as parts or a non running vehicle. transportation costs around 2k-3k depending on how u do it. I have a friend in LA who imported a EVO V
Kissifur 02-01-2001, 06:54 PM okay man. just look at the wrx. i mean, seriously, there are somethings horsepower just cant make up for...
skywalker 02-01-2001, 08:40 PM bluesaint
So I don't have to cut the car in half? Anyway I will have to look into that soem mroe than, because I wouls love to import a STi or something like that. Hmmmmmmmm, my mind is wondering now.
Thanks for the info
Chris,
I might now someone for your baby. I will let you know. How many miles, ow much you looking to get? PM me if you want.
RimRockaz 02-01-2001, 08:50 PM the look of new wrx has grown on me. so right now, i am saving up for the MY03 or 04. who knows, SOA might offer STi models... *dreamin'*
as far as my RS goes, i am keepin' it as my commuter. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/wink.gif
bluesaint 02-01-2001, 08:52 PM You can always go another option as well. Go to here and checkout the prices for the cars. http://www.j-garage.com/price.htm
Dont' u feel ripped off buying an RS?
Kissifur 02-02-2001, 01:01 AM its all about the 2.5rs... KEEPING IT REAL! gotta stay true...
Matt Monson 02-02-2001, 01:50 AM It depends on what kind of mods you have in mind for your RS. If you are talking about swapping engines and importing wrecks, then buy an L and not an RS.
But if you are going to keep the EJ25 and turbo or get customhead work for your HP, then you gotta ask yourself if you like the RS styling or the WRX styling better to decide what you buy. When you are done with your work on any of the three options listed, you will be in the same ballpark of performance.
kaminari 02-02-2001, 11:17 AM Not really. paid somewhere between the STi-2 and STi-3. Those're used.
At any rate, my friend was gonna get a civic type R from japan (yes the real one). Then he saw it when it came here and the shop was working on it and decided to wait for the JDM Integra Type R that they were bringing but that was sold under his nose to a higher bidder.
My point is that there are legal ways around the "federalization" rules (crash test, emissions, etc, etc, etc). The way that they were going to get around the rules was that the car was considered to be a "kit car" You know, like those old classic replicas that people build. So, they had their partner company scrap a used Integra Type R in Japan, send the pieces together, and reassemble it here.
"Why scrap it?" you ask? Because they have to prove that they built it here, so they had to take pictures during the entire reassembly process. So, theoretically, you can buy the pieces from a JDM EJ20 impreza and rebuild it here. Don't know if you can add it to your USDM chassis though (since it might not constitute a "kit car" anymore).
Just thought you might want to know.

bluesaint 02-02-2001, 11:45 AM yeah dats one way to do it =) Dats how the lancer evo's came about in LA http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif
skywalker 02-02-2001, 12:00 PM I just wonder how much it would cost then to take an STi or Evo apart over there, have it shipped over piece by piece and then reassembled in the US?
