Anyone have 6.5" speakers in the rear doors of an 03 WRX? If so what all does it take to mount them? Any cutting of the door?
Was it worth the trouble?
Thanks,
Kris

Was it worth the trouble? Thanks, Kris Brady 03-30-2004, 07:40 PM after extensive searching, I did not see any posts indicating success of 6.5s in the rear doors. The largest I've heard of in the rear doors so far is 5.25s. I have seen other people successfully put 6.5s in the rear deck, and I recently posted about mounting 6x9s in the rear deck also. The rear deck might be your safer bet, and it is actually pretty easy to do. A hell of a lot easier than mounting the 6.5s I put in the front doors. 02SilvaWagon 03-30-2004, 11:19 PM I have 6.5" Kenwoods in the rear doors of my 02 WRX. The speakers have a tweeter bridge which made it a lot harder. They had to be mounted from behind or else they would hit the door panel. The hole for the speaker had to be enlarged also. Check pics out here: http://home.comcast.net/~jschaefer4577/stereo/IMG_0201-tb.html In the end, I wish I would have just got 5.25" speakers instead. A speaker without a protruding tweeter would have made it a lot easier. cgroppi 03-30-2004, 11:52 PM My Focal CA135s just barely fit, and that's with the door panel held away from the speakers a bit with a spacer, and with the inside of the door trim panel modified. I have IA Performance spacers, and Stephen installed them himself. The STi install pics on his site are my car, when he did the install. While I'm sure it's possible to fit 6.5s, it will be a lot of work. |
