Alright, I've heard this one another forum about ESX Motor sports. But supposedly ESX is putting Injen CAI and they're getting 14-16 HP increase .....fact or fiction.

Now remember they did make the 9.6 second STI.

could be fact

depends though, are we talking about this intake on a totally, or semi stock wrx/wrx sti??? if so, then as long as the intake maintained some level of pressure throughout the system, then that would be totally feasable. remember, that leaning out the a/f mix will increase hp and thats what a lot of CAI's do. there downfall though is that they remove the pressure in the system, and thus not as much air gets sucked in to begin with, thus loss of power that everyone complains about. now, if they put it on a decently modified 2.0/2.5 engine, then it would be totally valid, due to the engine being more thirsty in general. so either way, in theory it could be true, however i think we will need to see some actual proof, and engine specifics before the stigma of a CAI on our engines changes.

WRX ish

Well the mechanic told me that there was 14-16 hp gains on a bone stock STI. When he told me he was from Australia and had worked on many wrx's prior I wasn't surprised considering he had a thick accent. I wanna believe him but I suppose it all depends.

There's a Dyno Chart on www.injen.com

See what you think.

Save yourself $200 and get a Perrin or Green filter. Then for FREE, remove the snorkus from the side fender wall. About the same gains....

Not only experience very simular gains, this will be MUCH safer!

My personal R&D with CAI is that its makes the MAF work extra hard, the A/F graph is very choppy and inconsistant with a CAI installed.

This is what Injen doesnt show you. The CAI leans out the car by getting extra air past the MAF that it cant see, thus leaning out the cylinders - making more power.

The question is: At what expense are you getting a mere 10-15hp?

I have taken of my APS CAI for good. Always threw a lean CEL. Now I have just stock with K&N filter. Power is the same but maybe slightly slower spool up.
Of course this is seat of pants dyno. But 48k miles worth.

Isn't an intake necessary when I get an EM, and Turboback and uppipe mods?

an intake, yes. A CAI, not necessarily...

Intakes and Engine Management do not necessarily require each other at all. Being a tuner we of course reccomend EM along with any mod so that you can reach the potencial of the additional parts. But you can tune up a stock car with no mods and get more power. So is an intake necessary when you get EM? No.

OK... my .02, I''ve had the Injen CAI for 50k on the WRX and have had zero problems with it... I feel it has given me a few add. hp's from the OEM system... i've met a few owners with very simlar mods. and the only diff. was that I had a CAI... I feel it helped my wrx run a tad quicker then most... but like I was told all motors from FHI are not made equal... so take it all with a grain of salt...

Now that I sold the WRX.... I have an Injen CAI 4-sale....

$100

i didn't notice any gains w/ the injen CAI. I'm either going to cut it or just grab a short ram because kingpin is going to be throwing on a FMIC very very soon
