JMP781 04-01-2004, 07:34 PM What colors do you have have coming and will they also have the same introductory price of $275 plus tax?
Justin
InfamousDX 04-01-2004, 09:25 PM Wow that's a great introductory price. I'm interested in how this compares to Speedware.

Sorry for the delay in replying, was at International Auto Salon setting up.
There will also be silver and other colors are being tossed around; however, the introductory price is only good for the next two weeks.

Very clean install no modification needed. Similar to speedware but not as intrusive.

ConeMasher 04-02-2004, 11:03 AM Does the bar telescope, or have a similar approach which prevents the bar from acting as a structural element in addition to mounting a harness?
-- Gary
South Coast Subaru 04-02-2004, 12:05 PM It has not been tested that it does add structural support; however, it would probably be obvious that it does. Its in my car now and it feels as if it helps.

would this have possible implications in SCCA/auto-X ?? I have seen the bar, it could probably be shown to add some structural support. It would be marginal.
As for a comparison to the other harness bars, it is less intrusive because the vertical supports are in the center rather than the sides, which helps preserve the space at the rear door opening.
Hey Ferdie, I want one in Hot Metallic Pink j/k  (Just wanted to make John sweat a little:lol: )
Looking forward to getting mine. :) (as soon as I do I will post pics)

gregr01 04-05-2004, 11:41 AM Okay, so where are the pix...?
Especially close ups of the install mounting points!

Rapid_Roo 04-05-2004, 08:01 PM Nice pics Ferdie, how is the vidcam mount?
RR:D
gregr01 04-06-2004, 12:05 AM Any accomodation for a more rearward mounting? From your pix, the bar mounts about 2 inches too far forward for where I need my seat to be positioned.
gr.
Rapid_Roo 04-06-2004, 12:32 AM I think these are pictures of a prototype. I saw a later version at the Rally Innovations shop, and it had a longer connector. I too had voiced concerns about the seat travel because my co-driver is 6'2" and needs to move as far back as possible.

The actual production bar extends almost 3" further than the one shown. We will try to post up more pics this week.

Please do, I'm really interested in this. But I'm a fairly big guy and I can only consider it if it truly extends back another 3" compared to the one pictured. John, please post any pictures that you might have of the production model installed. Thanks!
Craig
How quickly can this bar be taken out or put back in? I would only want to use it on track days and then take it out for street use. I wouldn't want someone in the back seat banging their head on the bar during a quick stop. :)

It looks like an STi in the pics he put in the first post. :)
atomicapples 04-07-2004, 01:05 AM how strong are these? i have read from a few other venders who offer them that they arent that strong, and that the harness still needs to be anchered into the rear seat's seatbelt.
what are these bars made of?

It takes about a total of 20 minutes to take it off once you know which bolts to take out. There is a total of 4 bolts to remove to separate it from the cabin.

It will fit an STI and the harness bars that are for sale are actually 3" farther back.

V REX 04-07-2004, 02:50 AM any plans for a polished version? price?

From the pics it looks like 1 bolt on each of the inboard rear seat bolts. Where are the other two? Does it also bolt into the B pillar for added chassis rigidity (like the Speedware unit - which BTW is no longer being made in SS). I'm guessing at the seatbelt attachment point?
Are you also going to be selling the camera mounts and/or fire extinguisher mounts?

Yes it bolts on to the rear seat rails and the seatbelt points. That is the four major bolts that connects the bar to the cabin. If you look on the side where the seatbelt can be adjusted there is a bolt behind that cover.

what are these bars made of?
When properly installed, these harness bars add some rigidity to the cabin, but are not intended for extreme racing. You would need a cage for that. As for mounting the harnesses on the bar, if properly mounted, provides the necessary angle that harnesses should rest on. Mounting the harnesses to the rear seat belt location does not allow the harnesses to be mounted at an optimum angle. The bar is intended for Autocross, Rallycross or any other sanctioned races that do not need a roll cage. The bar is not intended for street use as well as harnesses.
Hope this helps,
John P.

Fire extingusher and camera mounts are up & coming. Also, you can order a custom integrated camera, extinguisher or intercom mount at request.

DOM same material that is used for the rollcages.

You said it extends 3" further back now, would that make it extend about as far back as the Speedware bar then? Has anyone ordered & tried these out yet? Very tempting at that price. =)

I'm not sure how far the Speedware bar allows you to recline or adjust the seats back, but you can sit quite comfortably in them if you are 6'3" and under. One major advantage over the Speedware bar is that it doesn't block any leg room getting in & out of the rear doors. I know Rapid Roo has one. PM him for his comments.
Thanks,
John P.
Rally Innovations
Well I ordered one, we'll see how it goes. Too bad I'll probably be out of town until the 27th.
Rapid_Roo 04-13-2004, 11:05 PM The bar goes back pretty far. I am 5'7" and I drive with my arms out and legs extended almost all the way. I found it very comfortable and it didn't comprimise my sitting position one bit. The passenger side is up to your passenger, if they want to recline more they may have to move the seat closer and sacrifice a little leg room. On a surprise plus. the bar gives a little bit more body rigidity, a lot of the squeeks and rattles I normally had in the car went away. :)

atomicapples 04-14-2004, 12:45 AM m 6'4 would the bar be too low for me?
dxrat 04-14-2004, 03:26 AM I'm 5'7" and my seat is hard up against the bar,and it is not reclined very much at all.I doubt you would fit in my car at all.
atomicapples- it looks like you can adjust the bar up & down a few inches?
Rapid_Roo 04-14-2004, 12:56 PM Originally posted by atomicapples

without a helmet on, maybe. You would have to sit very perpendicular to the seat, to get the seat far enough away for your legs. If you sit close to the pedals, you would have more leeway to recline. Its all a matter of how you sit. I know somone one who is 6'2" and sits as close to the pedals as I do (during daily driving). I sit a lot closer to the pedals and steering wheel for Auto-X and for canyon running.

No you can't. the support bar precludes that.

the RS's production was mostly as coupes over its 4 years. as for the L's, most members here would probably be a coupe. a few sedans, but coupes would have been the choice as the 'sportier' car.

So what are the shorter bolts for (~1 inch of thread)? I'm missing something obvious that's preventing installation...
South Coast Subaru 05-01-2004, 12:33 PM The shorter one is for the seatbelt. You got to pop off the cover and replace the bolt with the shorter one.
Ferdie
So you toss the stock metal bushing and have the new bushing, harness bar, and seat belt squished together with the short bolt? If what I'm picturing is correct, I'm buying my own bolts & washers so the stock shoulder seat belt thing can rotate and retain the plastic cover...
South Coast Subaru 05-01-2004, 01:56 PM Originally posted by srf

So you are trying to retain the stock seat belts. If that is so then you must get a longer bolt. The shorter bolt are equipped, for set up that are not keeping the stock setup. Rally innovations.com has more info and pics.
Ferdie
Thanks, that would explain why things won't fit correctly. =)
Is there a market for a harness bar that doesn't work with stock seatbelts? I mean, if someone is serious enough ditch stock seatbelts won't they have a roll bar that the harness bar bolts/welds to? How many people want to install the harness bar every time they go to the track?
