Hey all I just moved to Laramie and was wondering if there are any meets or anything in the surrounding areas? I don't know anyone in the area, so I am looking for something to do.

Not many meets in Laramie or Cheyenne. But there's often meets down in Ft. Collins, Denver, & Boulder. If ya ever seen a black rex with county 2 plates in Laramie on the weekends, that's me :)

Welcome to the area.

If ya think Laramie is the a$$ end, wait until you go other places in WY. Laramie is the 3rd largest city. The football stadium there holds more than the entire population of Laramie

Anyone know who owns the white WRX with all the black PIAA decals? I saw it on 3'rd today and the guy had a big NASIOC sticker.

Wait 'till the lime green escort wants to race you

Yeah I talked to the guy in the Eclipse the other day, he seems preety cool and I have class with the guy that owns the lime green Escort.

Yeah, shane is pretty cool and a really nice guy but tries to pull WAY too much out of his setup. 16g + 23lbs of boost + 75 shot of nitrous = motor letting go both times he wanted to run against me (note to mods, we didn't actually race ;) ). Most of the guys that work at high altitude are really awesome and there are some AMAZING cars there. I have never talked to the kid with the lime green escort, I'm a day student and I'm pretty sure he's a night student, I always saw the car on my way home from ASM though. The thing walked the fine line between sounding like a total heap, and sounding VERY mean. What all does he have done? and is he color blind? or just have a sick sense of humor? Does he autocross in Denver? I think I've actually seen that car before. Oh yeah, what classes are you taking?

I am in EMS 1 night classes right now. Do you have WRC stickers down the side of your Suby?

I'm in EMS 1 day. No, my car is a totally bone stock looking rally blue pearl RS with a grapefruit shooter being the only consession to the cars true nature. The other 2 RS's running around are the dark blue

The school is pretty great, some real stupid people, but that happens anywhere... the area.... pretty awful unless you like outoorsey stuff, or drinking heavily, or other various redneck activities.

9th st. canyon is pretty fun. Also if you like dirt roads those abound - some nice twisty ones up in Veadauwoo/Happy Jack area too (about 20 minutes outside of town).

the 9'th street canyon would be REALLY fun if it weren't so rough (I'm on some pretty obnoxious springs) I'll have to check out Vedauwoo/Happy Jack area (assuming I didn't read that wrong because I'm tired and they're rough dirt) ... I'm thinking possible laramie area group drive some weekend? Give me fair warning and I can pull the really fun 10 and 5 meter USGS maps and could ride co-driver in a car properly set up and call turns :)

oh i would love to get into some nice back roads that go to no where. By the time i get there i should have some GC with some nice in-between rates for dirt and road.

there are some nice roads here in Rocket City...

out by the petroglyphs is a blast, and the drive around Flaming Gorge can get you white knuckled at times.

that sounds awesome.... what kind of road conditions are there? typical torn up wyoming fare or nice and smooth? I really miss the good challenging tight fun technical drives from back home. Are they wide open sweeping type canyon roads? or the REALLY fun kind that involve moving the wheel from lock to lock several times within a few hundred yards?

Also forgot to mention if you go up past snowy range (road usually open may-oct.), there's some nice twisty roads. But it's quite the boring drive until you get there.

docwhorocks Are you talking about the snowy range scenic byway? that looks like a very nice area and the pictures of the roads look quite fun :)

*edit*
I'm probably just goint to stay home today, my tranny is really starting to sound like it's about to puke it's guts out, plus the snowy range byway is closed. If someone is down for a highway 14 attack near fort collins I'd be happy to ride along and give pointers, but my car aint leaving the driveway now unless it's for class or when it gets a new 6 speed.

everyone in laramie must go to happjack!!

there are endless interlocking dirt roads and most of them are very smooth. just get on the highway in laramie and go east for five or ten minutes. its the first exit outside of town. i did see a cop up there yesterday, but 4x4ing is allowed so rally driving shouldn't be illegal.

the 9th street canyon is awesome too, but it's only a couple miles long and has too many places to screw up and wreck your car.

hey 03subawrx... what do you have done to your car? i heard you were talking **** before we raced, but you really didn't beat my by very much considering all of the extra horsepower you have from those massive stickers. are you still running the stock turbo or were you just not trying? your car looks like it should be a lot faster. :)

that lime green escort used to be a pile of junk. i am pretty sure the engine is stock but IMO it looks pretty damn good compared to what it used to look like. its all about the restoration.

i raced that orange eclipse once up to the top of second gear and pulled on him maybe a foot. it's definitely one of the fastest non-subaru's in laramie.

has anyone raced anything else that was fast in this town?

05-01-2004, 09:23 PM
Poocaman, was the orange eclipse on the bottle when you raced him? That car (on the bottle) has been the only thing that can touch me the entire time I've been here (since jan.). there is a red WS6 that is pretty darn loud that is pretty darn quick. There is also a VERY scary white cobra around (750 at the wheels, looks bone stock) a roush mustang (no idea what stage, could just be the body kit). A few other random wierd cars that high altitude has turned out (a dodge dart with a 13:1 motor) and the like. That's about all I've seen, the red WS6 is definately the quickets F-body in town though. There are also a few other big nasty 70's era cars that I'd like to run. The blue STi

that's hilarious, carls 'rex is pretty darn quick though.... for a puny 2 liter :)

Sounds like for the size of the town there is a good number of nice subarus. I may got Wyotech in Oct. I have to look into UTI also, which I am doing on friday, so there may be another WRX running around the wild streets of Laramie come Oct. How do you guys like the school. I am signed up for auto and High pre. engines. I think I am going to add another class on there and make it a full year. I am really looking forward to going to school, too bad wyotech is in the middle of nowhere.

WickedRydaX, Laramie is a really awful town and it totally sucks A$$ but wyotech is a really great school, UTI is a total joke compared to here. Definately come check this place out. I'm in auto right now, just finished management, and still have the high. per. engines, chassis fab, and street rod to finish.

I have been up there, looks great, but I want to see what else is out there before I make a huge life long choice. When are you doing the High per. engine part? That is the main reason I want to get there.

In high per. engines you can basically do anything, they are pretty well stocked. Lots of guys port/polish their own heads. It is also a chassis fabrication class, so anything chassis related is fair game too. Alot of guys get together, build a complete chassis in that class, and then move on to the street rod class to build the shell. Personally I'm building a set of heads for my car, and then doing a double A arm treatment to the suspension. In street rod I'm going to fabricate fenders that will let me fit 275+ series tires :)

I just got back from taking a tore up there on Friday. School looked really good, im defiantly ready to start in July. Are any of you looking for a room mate? The Wyotech rooms are a joke but im glad to say that's probably the worst thing about the school. I going to try and get into the other place with the four rooms [cant think of the name right now] in July when i start but if i cant i will be moving in them in Aug. no-coast-punk saw your car looked sweet, i also saw a brp rs with Subaru graphics on in at a gas station while i was there.

Burnout, try and avoid student housing at all costs. Just about every situation they have really sucks. Lots of pretty decent local appartments and stuff. There are 3 RS's here that I have seen(I've seen a 4'th driven by a 400lb behemoth, but it doesn't count). Mine (rally blue pearl, with a few small SCCA stickers), and 2 dark blue ones, one dark blue one is turbo'd but the owner is an effing idiot. The other one just has an exhaust, and is currently dead in the water with tranny issues. Did you see me parked in the lot when you were taking the tour? I haven't seen an RS around here with subaru graphics on it.... must be someone passing through or someone new.

I wasn't talking **** all I said was that I beat you once but now I beat you twice. I wasn't flooring it because it wasn't tuned and its had some bad detonation, but now its tuned. I don't have all of that much done but its quicker than all of the WRX's and all if the other cars that I have raced excluding the Ferrari 360 Modena.

Suba, how much longer are you going to be up there? If I end up going there, I would love to run you, for fun. If I end up trading for the tranny, and my car is done I would love to run you then. I don't think it will be done by then, and most likely not tuned at all.

I'll be moving down to Laramie this coming fall (along with my PSM '02 WRX ). Good to see that there're some fellow suby owners down in the southern part of the state. Hopefully I'll see some of you around. :D
