Does anyone have a 'guy' or know of 'someone' to get by the DEQ/Emissions? I may be in the future moving down to the Phoenix area and was curious on hard it would be to bring down my GT-T w/LinkPlus EMS and JDM DOHC heads? Anyone know of a way around this? Help...or it's going up for sale.

I am curious about this as well.

All testing in Maricopa county is done at specific ADEQ test centers.

2000 & newer vehicles are exempted.

Odds of getting by at one of these stations is slim to none, I imagine. Only option is to register out of county (and then you'd still be in violation, technically -- ADEQ rules (http://www.adeq.state.az.us/environ/air/vei/tested.html)).

gr.

p.s. - I am 100% against "getting around" emission requirements, but since I too did it in my younger days (different state, different testing methods) I can't justify the hypocrisy. C'est la vie.

move to flagstaff or some other area that doesn't require emission testing

Moving to a different location would be an idea, but the job is in the Phoenix area; Avondale.

The only reason for trying to get by the DEQ is because of the LinkPlus EMS. By using this it disables the OBD2 port...but the car runs clean...

Avondale.. you may be able to find a spot just outside Maricopa county.. 50 miles west of Jackrabbit trail and the I-10 are your closest spot outside the county lines... Jackrabbit trail is about 5 miles west of Avondale.. May not be worth the commute, but then again it may be... ;)

I will say that I do have a "friend" in the emissions area. He cannot even hoook up his own rides. This is due to the actual process and guidelines they are strictly required to follow.

But.....I believe that if your car is as new as it is(1998?), I think all they do is the OBDII test (hook up a 'puter to your ECU and check for faults). I know my father just had his first emissions a couple of years ago on a '96 GMC and all they did was hook the 'puter up to the ECU.

Thank you Shane. There lies the problem though like I said earlier, w/the LinkPlus my OE ECU is gone and the OBD2 port is disabled...:(

Emissions testing locations in Maricopa County are state run and are not available at your local gas station.

That being said, as long as your OBD-2 port shows that you are not throwing any codes you are gold.

I got my Camaro emissions tested last Sunday and I passed. I have no cats but I do have "tricker sensors" that tell the computer that the rear (after cat) O2 sensors are reading fine.

They don't put OBD-2 cars on the rollers here. They didn't even want me to pop my hood to see if all my emissions sensors were hooked up. They figured the ECU would let them know if there were any problems.

So, as long as your ECU tells the Emissions equipment that your ECU isn't throwing any code, you will pass.

You might be able to find someone that will re-progam your ECU so that your ECU tells the ADEQ scanner that all of the OBD-2 sensors are fine so it doesn't throw any codes.

Basically, I stopped right around the corner from the emissions state and re-set my ECU so that it didn't throw any codes before I got to the emissions station. It worked like a charm.

No codes = passed emissions in Maricopa County.

Looks like I'll have to do a full WRX wiring harness then. No ECU at all, just the EMS from Link. I wish there was a way to just hot wire the OBDII plug for the scanner.

Cool, Avondale is where I currently reside. What job are you taking down here?
