I just bought my blue WRX and it is a lot different than trying to keep a white GSR looking good. Im sure buffing is the answer. What buffers work the best though? Ive seen those $30 buffers at advanced auto but don't see those as working the best. Also, what polish and glazes will work best to get rid of swhirl marks and bring out that rally blue shine?

Check out http://www.autopia.org for gobs of detailing information. Once there, search for threads on the "Porter Cable 7424", or search for "PC*" (the * is to get around the search engine's requirement for at least three characters). The Porter Cable is a powerful dual-action polisher that performs soooooo much better than the cheapie buffers from AutoZone, Sears, etc.

The downside? It costs about $120: http://www.coastaltool.com/cgi-bin/SoftCart.exe/a/port/pr7424.htm?L+coastest+pclf3630ffbf8ebf+1081410621

Coastal Tool is about the cheapest price I've seen from an online vendor, but you can find PC7424s on eBay occasionally in the $50-60 range. They're also re-buildable, so if you do take a chance on a used one, you can get it repaired if it's not up-to-snuff.

Take Vic's and Tort's advice. The site they're referring to is http://www.autopia-carcare.com/ It's among one of several sites that will explain just what a clay bar does and will give you tips on how to get out those swirls.

If you look on the left hand column and click on "How To" (on the link I provided), it will show you various tips including how to get out swirls.

Zaino Z-5 (Show Car Polish for Swirl Marks and Fine Scratches) worked well to remove the swirl marks on my friend's black Audi as well as my car. You can get it at zainostore.com.

-Mike- I've had good success with Zaino products as well. However, as well as Z5 works, it doesn't "remove" swirls (it fills them). As the product wears off, any swirls that were evident before the application of the Z5 will eventually re-appear. Without a good polish/buff, they won't go away.

Sorry about the bad link guys. I don't know what state of mind I was in when I fat-fingered the .com instead of .org. You'd think I'd know the link; I'm a moderator over there!

Again, sorry. And do check out http://www.autopia.org (org, not com! :) ); it really is a great resource.
