After all this digging and calling I have come to the conclusion i CANNOT get JUST a shifter arm for my girls 96 LS. I was told I must get an entire kit and thats $225. Anyone have any other options for me??????? Im at a loss now :(

Yes a short shifter for a 96 ls... I was told theat no one makes just the throw arm and that I have to get a complete kit thats $225. Im just wanting to know if I can get just the throw arm or if I HAVE to get the "kit" Make sense?

Just realized I didnt state SHORT shifter. My bad.

You're looking for the shift fork that attaches to the shift lever correct??? I think your best bet is a breaker yard.

Is this what you need?

Or are you looking fo the part that goes from the shifter to the tranny?

You can put a complete shift assembly from a later model Impreza (anything 97-04) in and then use any of the popular shifters for the 97-04 models (Kartboy, BPM, etc.).

I'm runing into the same problem. I have seen B&M listing a 96 shifter lever but I'm not sure they even know if it's the right one.

If you get the whole assembly you have to change everything from the shifter shaft on the trans back. It's not a easy task while it's in the car.

Yes, just the SS "arm".........
If i cant just get a SS ill just save for an STi engine and tranny. ;)

One more post then I think ill have it all figured out. So sicne I cant just get the normal short shifter. I "can" just the entire shifter set "linkage, arm and whatnot" from a newer say maybe 98 Impreza and swap into my 96? and THEN be able to put in a short shifter arm?

That should be correct but make sure you get everything from the shifter shaft on the trans back. The linkage coonnection on the 96 is 90 Deg different from the newer linkage.

Unless you get a really good deal on the stock linkage I'd just get the STi linkage and short throw. Most "short" shifters are just shorter and don't change the geometry and can make it harder to shift.
