Hi all, i'm wondering if anyone else had any problems using 02+ usdm wrx pedal set in a older legacy or impreza? I'm converting from automatic to manual and using the pedal set from a 02 wrx w/ hydrolic clutch.
I had a turbo legacy pedal set and compared the two before selling the legacy ones off. I swear there were no differences and everybody said those bolt right in.
They physically bolt onto the brake booster but there are spacers on the firewall that are too long. So basically they'll fit, i just have to trim down the spacers a little. Just curious if anyone else had to do the same?!
Thanks
Brent

well on my swap i am gonna be going with a BE/BH legacy pedal set, but thats because i suspect mine is prob much different than a wrx compared to yours and i just want to make sure it works.

I don't know what the similarities are between the GC8 and older legacies.

I know you can fit them in GC8's though. On older GC8's(like 1994 or earlier, not sure of the exact year it changed) the WRX pedals will bolt right in. Those chassis didn't have an upper support for the clutch actuator on the right side of the pedal box. That support is in a slightly different spot on the GD's. So for a newer GC8(My 1999 L had this problem) where they have that upper support, you just have to cut the tab off the WRX pedal box where it bolts onto that support. The pedal box is still plenty rigid without that one support.

You may also have to slightly enlarge the 2 holes for the upper support on the left side above the clutch pedal itself. I did, but am not sure if it was necessary.

It fits, just slightly off is all. On the fire wall there is the mounting braket with four spacers on it. I basically took this piece off and cut those spacers down about a quater of an inck and it fits fine.
If i hadn't cut them down then the clutch actuater on the right side where it goes through the firewall at would've NOT been flush. Also the support beam bolts were off too.

So you've already modified yours and it works fine, or are you asking how it can be modified to work?

I don't know how similar the GC8 and legacy pedals are, but what you describe sounds similar to the problem with my 1999 GC8. It will for the most part bolt up, but the clutch actuator won't sit flush so the clutch won't disengage till the clutch pedal is basically on the floor.

If it's the same problem, the easiest solution is to cut off the tab above the clutch actuator. That's the only thing that is keeping it from sitting flush. Without that tab I've noticed absolutely no extra flexing while depressing the pedals. I'm thinking it is there for crash safety to keep the pedals from intruding furthur into the cabin and pinning/hitting your feet on an impact. Eh, if that's true, I'm willing to take the chance with that 1 mount.

I'm in the middle of making in work right now and i'm checking to see if anyone else has had this problem. I would like to know if it's a regular problem or maybe my car or pedals are a little off.
What tab are you referring to? There is a little tab on the round hole that i already cut off, but that didn't seem to do much.
My problem was that the mounting pionts were about a quater of an inch off and the right side of the pedal set-where the clutch actuator goes through the firewall at- wasn't setting flush.
Now that i've cut the spacers down a little everything sets pretty well. Unfortunatley i didn't cut the spacers exactly even so i'm just going to get some new ones that are even and tack weld them in.

The tab I'm talking about is on the right side where the clutch actuator goes through the firewall. There is a mount above it and a mount blow it. I cut of the entire piece for the top mount off. I don't recall the spacers you're talking about. I just noticed that tab is where it was interfering on the GC8's mounts so cut it off and it pretty much fit perfect after that.

I had to cut the holes in the firewall as my legacy never came with a hydrolic clucth; only cable. The spacers are where the brake boost mounts through the firewall.

Oh ok disregard everything I said, sounds like it could be a lot different than the GC8. Even my 1994 Impreza had holes in the firewall for the actuator. Nowhere to mount the upper support above the clutch actuator, but it had a hole in the firewall for it.
