View Full Version : Anyone see this... ?
Nick:
how much hp is too much hp for a FWD?
Just enough to catch 1st, 2nd and 3rd and lay a patch down the raod.
I used to have a Turbo Talon FWD. And I knew quite a few who had them too.
Fastest one with just a few mods was running in the 13's.
Fast enough?
wolve80 04-29-2000, 02:08 PM what you mean nick, is how much TORQUE is too much for a FWD drive car. You can have a car with 1000hp (not likely) but only 150tq, and no problems. When you get high amounts of torque, FWD cars have a problem with snapping the drive axel. Dunno if you've seen, but alot of FWD dragsters bring extra axles, just in case.
STi Sev 04-29-2000, 02:23 PM oh **** that looks nice (its the blue interior of me talking ;p)
HomerJay 04-29-2000, 02:32 PM All I have to say is, total rip-off of our beloved RS. It does look pretty good though http://208.9.184.67/NonCGI/mad.gif. I'm sure it won't see the light of day looking like that, although Dodge is very good about producing concept cars. I doubt the supercharger will make it if it does go production, turbocharger is more likely. We'll have to wait see.
it looks like a new celica from the front and a RS from the rear (fin)
Leonardo 04-29-2000, 02:42 PM Can anyone say "four door eclipse" ? I mean, WTF it looks like an four door 98 eclipse with a Camaro SS hood.
For the time of your life, Look for those people with hooped up neons laughing at our cars and show thep this picture! THAT should be VERY funny!!!

NickSTi 04-29-2000, 02:50 PM But wolve80 its not quite what I mean. So then why is the s2000 RWD? First one too.
Horsepower: 240 hp @ 8300 rpm
Torque: 153 ft-lbs. @ 7500 rpm
Thats not a terrible amount of torque, plus it makes it at high engine revs. Certainly not enuff to rip ur axle of something terrible. I was more referring to more the marketing aspect I guess.
NickSTi 04-29-2000, 02:52 PM Add-on
The lude throws 156lbs atcha @ 5250 rpm and thats FWD. see my point?
RidinLow 04-29-2000, 02:53 PM The S2000 is RWD because it's intended to be a true sports car, & for that, you need to be able to control the rotation of the car with your right foot, plus it brings a more even weight distribution. Nothing to do with how little torque it has.

Bahumut 04-29-2000, 02:59 PM That Dodge Power Wagon looks sweet though.. 780 ft/lbs of torque?? Yeesh..
Overtime 04-29-2000, 03:02 PM Hardcore ripoff. Dodge should be better than that.
Ugh. Dodge, design your own car for chrissakes.
jhuang76 04-29-2000, 04:44 PM Don't forget, Honda built the S2000 to celebrate its 50th anniversary. Honda's first car was the S500 (0.531 liter) which got 81.7 HP/liter (awesome at that time), front-engine, RWD, inline 4s ... etc. The S2000 is a 2 liter modern version (convertible though) of the S500!
Of course, they could have easily made it FWD, but ...
HomerJay 04-29-2000, 04:58 PM Actually, other than the viper, all the new models are redesigns of old cars. The PT Cruiser, Prowler, and the possible new charger. I think the design team at Chrysler looks at car magazines all day and steal designs. They must have seen the Evo IV, RS 25, and the MY2000 Celica and came up with that car.
Bassem 04-29-2000, 05:14 PM You have to see there point though. This street racer look is just getting more and more popular, and chrysler will loose a lot of money if they don't jump on the bandwagon.
I think its okay. the only thing I really absolutely hate is that butt ugly 4 spoke steering unit. Ughh!!! If you design a car with decent handling but mostly looks, at least get that part right!
Bassem
HomerJay 04-29-2000, 05:21 PM Hey Bassem, I know what they are trying to do, but will they be able to sway all those kids who have been buying imports to switch to a domestic? It would be interesting to see. If it drive well and it's cheap, I would buy one. It just that, Chrysler is rarely origional with their car designs. Also, if someone takes a Domestic car and highly modifies it, can you call it a rice rocket? How about a potato performer ;D
wolve80 04-29-2000, 05:29 PM ridenlow hit it on the head.
Or a Super Spud, Homer

WTF?
NickSTi 04-30-2000, 01:56 AM I have a question tho. From playing GT and looking at specs of cars, etc. how much hp is too much hp for a FWD? I mean it sounds silly at first, but this is what I mean: You know how all the HPed cars are RWD? I just figured that once you start manufacturing and marketing a car as a performer, you stop on the FWD trip and start on the RWD trip. Too many examples to name (Nissan sentra vs 300ZX)
EuGeNiLe GTS 08-09-2000, 10:00 AM DAMN IT!! heh whatsup with that car.. a mix of a whole bunch of other cars.. and whatsup with the damn hood scoops nowadays.. i think they just look good on the imprezas andthe celicas..and im not just saying that cause i ahve a celica heh =) i wonder if that neons hood scoop actually has a purpose though..hmm..
JGard 08-09-2000, 10:02 AM Two words to describe that... F-ing Retarded!!!
direwlf 08-09-2000, 06:38 PM How much power is too much for front wheel drive? I don't know. Ed Bergenholtz has no problems running mid 9's in a front drive CRX http://www.impreza-rs.com/ubb-files/smile.gif Course he also has wheelie bars and only 6 psi of air in the tires, but hey, it works. Also worthy of note is the fact that he is using a STOCK(!!!) integra transaxle.
MMMMmmmm 300M Hemi Convertable
skeletor25rs 08-10-2000, 08:32 AM If they do produce this car it will probably have the supercharger not turbo. I heard that a supercharger is an option on some of the 2001 PT Cruisers.

'83 DL WGN 08-10-2000, 05:21 PM I'm all for it. The more manufacturers making performance compacts, the better. Increased competition is only going to help Subaru enthusiasts, in all respects.
Think of the HP war going on with the mid-range German sedans; the M5 is 400hp, and some ungodly amount of torque. I wish there was a more serious HP war between Honda, Toyota, Ford, Subaru, etc. And a handling war, and a braking war...
Just appreciate that companies are even considering making cheap, small performance cars, considering all of the SUV concepts present at every major auto show anywhere in the world. That could be the future.
