View Full Version : 200+hp on 2K 2.5RS W/ out Turbo
noob w/ a scoob 04-11-2004, 10:15 PM Is it possible to get over 200hp out of the stock 165hp engine on my 2000 Impreza 2.5RS? I dont want to make it turbo because then you have to either replace the engine, or put many hours of work into the stock engine to get it so that it wont blow out after a while.
hyp36rmax 04-12-2004, 12:17 AM well on your way to get 200+bhp N|A you will need to work on the same principles in getting a reliable turbo setup.
E.G stronger pistons, block, possibly a port/polish, ems....
im sure im missing some more stuff, N|A tuners please chime in....?

haha i like your name.
but if you say you want to go N/A because its "easyer" or less hours of work your mistaken. you should look into a usdm wrx motor swap, save up and have a shop do it.
or if your really into N/A search the na forums.
scotty305 04-12-2004, 03:00 AM 1.) This question belongs in the "Normally Aspirated" Tech Section. "Normally Aspirated" = "N/A" = "non-turbo." This "Subaru Conversions" section is for people who are doing motor swaps mostly, converting their car to a different engine than it originally came with.
2.) I found LOTS of info, it took me about a minute, maybe two. I'll share my secret search technique with you:
-1- First open the search page , http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/search.php?s=
-2- If you're looking for 200hp, try typing in "200".
-3- For better results, be sure to focus your search in the "normally aspirated" section of the forums using the drop-down menu.
-4- Change the date to "any date" because Subaru has been building "normally aspirated" cars for a lot longer than 3 months.
Here are just a few of the threads I found, all of them are very informative:

Hope that helps,

i would say yes easly... but your going to need cams and an aftermarket ecu
eventually cobb is suppose to release a reflash for the RS...

eventually...
 And you don't need an ECU to hit 200 at the crank. Just Cobb spicy cams with bolt ons will hit 200. But tuning never hurt a car...
Boxologist 04-12-2004, 03:31 PM 200 crank hp is pretty easy. that would put you at 165hp to the wheels or thereabouts.
to go more u have to open up the engine.
bang for the buck is a reliable and reputable swap.
subyrally 04-13-2004, 08:44 PM i think i might be near 200 at the crank, ive done sprk plugs, intake and exhaust. and headers. just go one step at a time. good luck.

i try, its still faster than stock, and buttloads faster than my moms car that ive had to drive lately.
whtlegacy 04-14-2004, 03:37 AM you may have 165 + 18 hp in the best possible scenario. That's still only 183 hp.

such a downer, huh?
Wedge 04-14-2004, 11:43 PM Get a lightweight flywheel......and you'll notice the difference. ;)
(Moreso than intake/exhaust crap) :D
awdf00 04-16-2004, 08:26 PM imo, i think its tough and expensive to reach 200 bhp. and with 200 at the crank, you'd actually only get about 145 awhp. or you can get teh NAWZ
Boost4U 04-17-2004, 12:16 PM contact "dcoty" and ask him about his car....what a beast!

you're saying exhaust and headers are only 18? should be higher than that. figure those two would be more closer to 25-30. (I think 18 is a whp gain, not crank)

i want to agree with that
whtlegacy 04-18-2004, 03:03 AM well the most N/A exhaust gains I've seen are on Patrick Olsen's Legacy dynoed before and after an MRT resonated, hi-flow cat headerback exhaust system. He got something like 14-16 hp/ 14-16 lb/ft torque at the wheels (I can't really remember.) That would be a little higher at the crank.
Subyrally, you claim to have exhaust and intake mods. An intake will be no more than 2-3 hp at best at peak. I just don't see you having +35 hp at the crank. For what it's worth, I'm also running an equal length headerback MRT exhaust and a rallitek intake. I also have a proECM chip. My car is quicker than stock, but I'm still not going to claim it's at 200hp at the crank.
