View Full Version : everyone with stock internals, post here!
marioej18 04-12-2004, 09:04 PM post the setup you are running on those stock internals, what turbo/fuel pump/injectors/etc....
did you buy a turbo kit?
did you make/piece together your own?
tell me what you got!
:D
Mariano 04-12-2004, 09:20 PM O.K. Here we go:
I wouldn't call it a "turbo kit" since it was custom built by the now deceased JC Sports and it was one of a kind (only one "kit" like this was ever made), plus the fact that more than 50% of the rest of the components were bought piece by piece.
Here's my setup:
-GT-28 Ball Bearing turbo
-Spearco TMIC
-Greddy BOV (Type S)
-WRX injectors
-Supra TT fuel pump
-Vortech FPR
-Unorthodox Racing underdrive pulley
-Custom turbo manifold/uppipe/downpipe (by JC Sports)
-Custom 3" piping (catless) (by JC Sports)
-HKS exhaust/muffler
-SPEC Stage 3 clutch
-STI Type RA 5sp Gearset (cryo treated)
-RSX Type R Air Filter inside fender
-Apexi ITC
-Apexi S-AFC
-Apexi AVC-R (w/10-12 lbs of BOOST!!!)
-NGK Iridium spark plugs (BKR7Eix-11)
-Magnecor 8.5 ignition wires
-Summit catch can

marioej18 04-14-2004, 07:39 PM thanks guys! that was exactly what i was looking for, im arguing with myself whether to sell my car and buy something already turbo, or just go and buuy a turbo kit for my car... the only thing is, is that i didnt really want to do any internals, and i didnt know how safe it was to turbo my engine without doing that stuff...
as of right now, its possible that my car is going to sell, but if it doesnt, im goin turbo with it!

Yeah, and there are plenty more people on stock internals. Just follow the golden rules, proper management and tuning. Also, keep in mind that even with good management, stock internals are not guarunteed to hold up past 6psi, but as you can see, they hold up fine for many people with proper management.

Get me some pics of your setup and car. That sounds like a hot freakin ride.....do u have any videos of the car in action?!?

PHATsuby 04-19-2004, 01:57 AM BOY-do you have any pics of your custom header? also who made it?
thanks
Ben
I can't seem to find any :(
I had pics of my install hosted but the host dropped my directory and I cna't for the life of me find the pics (they're burried on a CD-ROM in my rather large collection).
As who made em, it was just a local muffler shop. I had the eye, the owner had the materials and ability.

I'm not sure how to take that
marioej18 04-24-2004, 06:30 PM so im considering a kit for my car now, and so far, the forced air tech kits seem to be the best ones out there for the ej25. basically my car is a daily driver, i wouldnt be racing it, ,just street driving. the main concern that i have is that i wouldnt know how to tune it properly, there is a place by me that can do it though... but! even when they tune it, will it run properly and not give me any problems? or would it just be better in the long run to replace the internals as well? i wouldnt get boost happy or power hungry, i would just be happy with some turbo power!
PHATsuby 04-24-2004, 09:10 PM a turbo'd EJ25 is not worry free, although you can make it pretty close with proper tuning and equipment but still dont expect to have zero problems.
Ben
yamarocket630 04-25-2004, 08:52 AM if you're looking for a 100% problem and headache free car, buy something that's factory turbo and STOCK.
Ethan 04-25-2004, 09:15 AM If I had to do it all over again, I would have just done a engine swap. Of course they weren't that common back then, so that wasn't really a option.
I got a Tec-2, JC sports kit, and that's about it. It runs, not very smooth and not very fast :( But it does it's job.
Amen, if you can afford a pre-fab kit and proper tuning, you might as well look into a swap. A kit with full standalone and dyno time will run you near the price of an EJ20 swap.
marioej18 04-25-2004, 02:13 PM i was looking into an ej20 swap before, but the only thing that really scares me about it is the wiring.... there is no way that i would even attempt to do any of that, and to pay someone to do it would be ridiculously expensive (i would imagine). ill ask over in the conversion section though!
if i go with the kit, i would most likely be spending $3000 for the kit and then probably quite a bit for the install and tuning...
maybe you guys are right that doing a swap maight be cheaper?
