View Full Version : Roll Call: Who else has done the 2.5l conversion?
LiquidForce 04-15-2004, 12:08 AM I was wondering who else has done the conversion and what else was changed. ie heads/cams
Also what engine management are you using?
I went with just a straight short block swap.
totoherbs 04-15-2004, 12:15 AM You mean the STi short block? No one, that I know of, has gone the full long block root. As its stupid expencive, and the same power can be had cheeper and easyer.
The only way to go would be a full standalone with the full long block... Thats what over $10k?
You could get a jdm type RA front clip sell the 2.0 short block buy a 2.5 short block and come out cheeper with better heads.
Or just use the wrx heads with the usdm STi cam and come out even cheeper. Im rabling again huh...
Bottom line the sti long block swap would just be for braggins rights. Hell I think you can get a built axis, cobb, i speed short block and worked wrx heads cheeper...
doogie1 04-15-2004, 12:52 AM Just got done, monday car runs good still breaking it in has 280miles on it to date, stock heads but they are now shimless i have a unichip but its not controlling anything right now during the break in because the ecu is adapting perfect to it.
totoherbs 04-15-2004, 12:58 AM Your running a 2.5L on your wrx with out any tune?
ttimpreza 04-15-2004, 08:22 AM I'm doing it right now. I found a 98 2.5. Swap the pistons with je 8.7:1, for more boost. I have a e-manage coming with a profec boost controller. Its striped and allmost ready to go to paint.

Good luck with JE, many people have had problems with them.

Yeah no tune really as of today it has about 560 miles still breaking it in boost limited to 8psi shifting at 5500rpm the shop that did the swap hooked up an aem uego wideband for the break in period just to make sure the a/f ratios are ok and if need be then they would add fuel, timing etc but its not necessary yet until its fully broke in. Then they are going to tune it on the dyno and road tuning but at 8-10psi at 5500rpm part throttle the a/f ratio is 12.1:1 this is on sunoco 94 octane .
ttimpreza 04-17-2004, 08:30 PM I have heard JE are one of the best. I'm going to try them. If I can make it last until I order my 2.2t short block I will be happy.
gpatmac 04-17-2004, 09:05 PM I swapped the 205 w/ the 257, and installed the Green and a Greddy FMIC at the same time. I retained my old heads and cams. I've also installed a JDM v7 6mt.
I also hacked the stock injectors and was successfully using the latest firmware with the UTEC. (Was refers to up until last month when I deployed to Afghanistan.)
While I'm here, I'm trying to learn a bit more about what I want to do with my heads & such.

Both thies motors died in part from JEs. The are not the best, they are the cheepest. Even cobb gets raw blanks from JE and makes thier own piston.
ttimpreza 04-18-2004, 12:07 PM Cobb is useing the raw forgings from JE? So there pistion design and shape are flawed. Not the Stuff there made out of??
Explain it to me, please.
