View Full Version : Which Brake Pads are the best?
david2z4 08-02-2000, 08:58 AM Could not find good topic under search.
I am looking to upgrade pads on stock 00 RS brakes.
I want low dust, low fade, low warm-up.
Mintex, EBC Green stuff, others?? Willing to pay for the best but who has the best price?
Dave
ColinL 08-02-2000, 09:06 AM Mintex is out, very high dust.
Your two remaining options are EuroRotor (sold by SPO) and EBC Greenstuff, sold direct by EBC or through Eric Gagnon.
I haven't seen any sort of comparison between the two from someone that's owned both or even driven two different cars with them.
ColinL 08-02-2000, 09:09 AM Oh, I think Porterfield offers pads for the RS too. But they're more expensive than EBC and EuroRotor.
By the way, the 99-00 RS has unique rear calipers and currently no one offers a performance pad. Stock rears should be fine for anything short road racing because there's so little braking being done by them. (compare the thickness of your front pad with the rear if your car is stock and has some miles on it.)
Tim Prudence 08-02-2000, 10:34 AM I have heard good things about the Axxis Metal Master, they're cheap $115 for front and rear from Primitive.
deepbeep 08-02-2000, 10:48 AM Yep, you'll hear Subie Gal raving about the Metal Masters in here shortly, I bet!
I plan on getting a set of them before the Subaru Track Day...
Andre Vandenberg 08-02-2000, 10:51 AM You may wanna check with Trey at Cobb tuning.
I delivered a set of "Mystery Pads" from Cobb for Chris F to try this past weekend at the AutoX and he REALLY liked them. I don't know if Trey has them available for sale yet, but if he does it would be a good way to go as well. Of course, depending on the price http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/wink.gif

Jason 08-02-2000, 11:52 AM Personally, I would not go with Metal Master. Tried it and dislike it. 3 friends had them and hated them. You go figure.....
Pad best for what? Street or track?
Mintex MM1166 is really good for track, MM1155 is good for street and some track, but with heavy dust and rotor eating problem.
If you like the best best brake. Get a set of AP Racing SHP Type ZC. http://www1.checkerflag.co.jp/shp.htm
20,000 yen for front & 18,400 yen for rear.
I have not found a dealer carrying them in US though. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/frown.gif
GTBGUY 08-02-2000, 11:57 AM Actually KVR makes one mean pad!
Low dust/noise, and very powerful!
chk out www.kvrperformance.com (http://www.kvrperformance.com)
Carbon Fiber w/ Kevlar backing
if you want to know more just email me, I'm using them on both of my cars '99GT and '97 Accord EX-R
Jason 08-02-2000, 01:37 PM I had KVR pads before on my old Civic. There is a significant improvement over the stock pad.
I will say it's pretty close to what you are looking for.
Subie Gal 08-02-2000, 02:41 PM here i am!!!
Axxis/Repco - made in aussie....
good stuff...
track day - rally x and street...
nooooo fade...
not a whole lot of extra brake dust... everyone said there would be, but i haven't really noticed a huge difference...
not supposed to do ANY damage to your rotors...
QUOTE FROM... www.get-primitive.com (http://www.get-primitive.com)
Metal Master front brake pads offer improved performance over the stock pads, reduce the amount of ugly brake dust, and work well to very high temperatures without wearing rotors out. Combine with power slotting (see below) and braided steel brake lines for the ultimate race braking.
Front Brake Pads ... $65 per pair
Rear Brake Pads ..... $60 per pair
Brake Pad Kit ........ $110 for all 4 wheels
there you have it...
