I'm pretty sure some of you folks have already done this, but the only question I do have so far is how is the beam pattern when used with the halogen housing? Or did you need to upgrade to projectors?

View Full Version : HID retrofit in Subaru hunts 04-15-2004, 12:36 PM I'm pretty sure some of you folks have already done this, but the only question I do have so far is how is the beam pattern when used with the halogen housing? Or did you need to upgrade to projectors? scoobiegt 04-15-2004, 12:40 PM Is your houseing crystal clear? or does it have the lines? What year are we talking about here? Well first off, you could use those kits that just have special housing, BUT there is a lot of glare on the road and i think may suck in the rain. I have a friend that used projectors in his Acura Legend. He used S2000 projectors and made a custom job on the Acura. It's a huge improvement and is better than the kits. The down side is the cost. It ran over a grand 2-yrs ago. hunts 04-15-2004, 12:59 PM My housing does have the lines, so I'm guessing the beam pattern will likely get scattered all over the place unless I used rebased bulbs and retrofit some kind of shielding. My headlights accommodate H4 bulbs. Wow, projectors are that expensive?? Mulder 04-15-2004, 01:11 PM I am not aware of any projectors available for the Forester. Generally if you retrofit aftermarket HIDs into OE reflector housings there will be excessive glare and there isn't that much you can do about it since the housings were not designed for HIDs. The proper bulbs for reflector HIDs are D2R type which have an integral glare shield on the bulb glass. This will reduce glare somewhat although they are only intended for use in OEM reflectors that are designed for use with HIDs. hunts 04-15-2004, 01:59 PM Wow, thanks for the info guys. I guess I can forget about the projector part. The other thing I'm thinking about is to use D2S with the casper adapter that fits directly into H4 housing. The casper adapter pretty much covers the lower half of the bulb completely and reduces/eliminates unwanted glare (or so I'm told). The only problem is finding someway to connect the OEM H4 headlight harness to the 9006 harness (which will likely involve splicing if no such adapter exists). ptsmalls 04-15-2004, 05:49 PM ive been lookin for a shild for the hids for a friend....do u have any sources for them ?? zojirushi 04-16-2004, 12:53 AM i read somewhere you can rig something up with a turkey baster subaru mike 04-16-2004, 02:12 PM Originally posted by zojirushi i read somewhere you can rig something up with a turkey baster  Peaty 04-16-2004, 05:18 PM http://www.scoobymods.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2890 |
