Anyone know exactly what's involved in converting from an R160 (4.11) to an R180? I'm curious as to if anyone knows if parts from the R160 can be used to convert an R180 to a 4.11 final drive. I'm aware that I'd need the axles to go along with it, and probably the hubs. Other question would be whether stock RS/WRX brakes would fit as well. Has anyone done this sort of thing before? Any insight?
Yeah, I have an Outback Sport, but it's got an '01 RS tranny, so this is applicable there too.
Thanks,
Geoff
axels
hubs
brakes stock won't fit wrong bolt spacing
and finding a 4.11 r180.. iirc all the r180s are 4.44 or 3.90

Correct, the r180s are all 4.44 or 3.90, but since you can convert any 3.90 or 4.11 to 4.44 using a kit, I'm thinking there should be a way to convert a 3.90 to a 4.11 as well.
Also curious as to brake options since the WRX stocks evidently will not fit.

i know brembos, other than that id like to know as well.
well you can convert a 3.90 r160 .. but i dunno if they make a 4.11 r180
brembos or 2 pots w/ 180mm parking brake are all that will work

the ring gear is a diff size i believe for the R180 so you would need something custom made.

Some of the nissans use R180's in their applications. I'm not sure which ones and i'm not sure if it would be as simple as just finding a vehicle in a junkyard, but might be worth looking into.

Look for Z-cars. They used the R180's all the way back to the 70's and the 240Z...
