View Full Version : who drives on kumho mx's? jeff1872t 04-18-2004, 03:25 PM please give me an opinion on these tires and the yokohama paradas too. GimmeScoobySnacks 04-18-2004, 03:38 PM I have them, and so far i've been happy. I've had BFG KDW and Bridgestone RE730 (twice) tires before and the MXs make me the happiest. Stick good and make noise before they break loose so no surprises. I think i will try the Azenis next though. file_id 04-18-2004, 04:03 PM [i]I think i will try the Azenis next though. [/B] phattyduck 04-19-2004, 03:47 AM I have no personal experience with either tire... but... I hear that the Kuhmo MX's reward hard driving... they work well at the limit. I hear that the Yokohama Parada's are loud... I rode in a car with them... and I agree. :) -Charlie PKer 04-19-2004, 01:42 PM There are almost as many people running them as Azenis in the street tire classes at auto-x. Onederer 04-19-2004, 01:46 PM thats better SupraTT&WRX 04-19-2004, 02:22 PM I have the MX's, my car tends to push a little to much, but I think that is suspention set up. They are absolute crap. abqkid 04-19-2004, 08:47 PM i should have my mxs mounted up and on by thursday. will post then. Jared703 04-20-2004, 01:09 AM are these available in a 225/50 16" Uncle Scotty 04-20-2004, 01:27 AM My MX's are like cat on carpet in the dry:D I gave up trying to make my car slide 'cuz I'm afraid that it won't slide before it rolls over...I'm not kidding  The ONLY reason I won't be buying them again is that I'm afraid of hydroplaning, which I did once at speed  on A008's. The MX's...they are only fair to good in the wet, especially under 1/2 tread..... But in dry conditions.... Kostamojen 04-20-2004, 02:53 AM I got mine to slide nicely this weekend at the autox, it was fun :D The MX's really respond to your choice of tire pressure... Its critical to get them to do what you want. So far I love them, even wound up driving them in the snow back from the autox    That was scary, but surprizingly I never had any issues even when it was snowing rather hard over donner pass... Never had any REAL standing snow though. nhluhr 04-20-2004, 10:49 AM i had my 245 MX's sliding (aka drifting) a LOT this weekend on a little mountain road west of here... wrxman02 04-20-2004, 01:16 PM the two evo boys on this forum, evo8power and huscroft 6 , run the mx's they love them. i drove both and there ok. i ilke the s03 's better, or the stock re070 are pimp in the dry. i run pirelli pzero nero's all year then race on r compounds. later andy  Jared703 04-20-2004, 01:18 PM Originally posted by Jared703 are these available in a 225/50 16" ?? jay25RS 04-20-2004, 01:23 PM I'm running MX's in 225/45/17 with a perring rear antisway bar with the perrin end links. The tires are amazing. They give progressively and have very strong bite, still a pretty comfortable ride and even were excellent before the swaybar went on. -Jason P.S. http://www.kumhousa.com/Products/PtnDetails.asp?mainCatID=1&PtnID=KU-15 According to the above link to Kumho's site, they are available in 225/50/16 Kostamojen 04-20-2004, 10:27 PM 225/50/16 is what I have. mycarsux 04-20-2004, 11:28 PM how much do these run for? i saw them at autobachs and was wondering if they were charging a rediculous amount. i saw it at tire rack a lot cheaper than autobachs. 2003WRX 04-21-2004, 02:12 AM I am running MX's (225/45/17) and have been pleased with them. They handle great overall. I would buy them again. SonicYelloWRX 04-21-2004, 02:18 AM Don't even think about getting the Paradas, I had them on my GTi and they may look good, but all they do is hydroplane and weigh alot. They are pretty much just tires for the Fast and Furious crowd imho( I didn't know what I was doing when I had my Gti, my 18in wheel/tire combo must have weighed 55lbs per corner:rolleyes: ) Go with the Kumho's or the Azenis sports. I paid $115 each tire installed for the 225/50/16 at Americas Tire Co. (I waited for the truck rather than paying for the overnight shipping) mycarsux 04-22-2004, 12:20 AM Originally posted by CreoWRX I think you answered your own question. ;) -Mike- hehe...oops. gotta get some sleep. :p damn tires for 18s are expensive.. scoobydrew06 04-22-2004, 12:30 AM Originally posted by nhluhr i had my 245 MX's sliding (aka drifting) a LOT this weekend on a little mountain road west of here... got a pic of those on yer car? nhluhr 04-22-2004, 12:50 AM Originally posted by scoobydrew06 got a pic of those on yer car? yep. They are pretty good. Soft sidewall, which doesn't bother me. Haven't really had a chance to romp on them and find their limits, but they don't have the glue like feeling my ra-1's do on a hot day. Any recommendations on pressure, by the way? Keep in mind I'm trying to save my wheels too, I've been running around 42 psi. Kevin Uncle Scotty 04-22-2004, 06:12 PM I'm running ~40-41F and 38-39R(cold pressures) which they seem to like well for the street....lower pressures by a few pounds are ok, but you sacrifice feel and a bit of turn-in. My alignment is pretty aggressive, too:devil: nhluhr 04-22-2004, 07:06 PM Originally posted by Uncle Scotty I'm running ~40-41F and 38-39R(cold pressures) which they seem to like well for the street....lower pressures by a few pounds are ok, but you sacrifice feel and a bit of turn-in. Uncle Scotty 04-23-2004, 02:00 AM Yeah....I found that they will scrub and slide at lower pressures....I wasn't kidding when I said that I was afraid to try to slide my car on the MX's....I really AM afraid it will roll before it slides...I had a modded SLK chasing me last night onto the highway on a nice 270° ramp and I was stomped in 3rd and it felt like the inside wheels were coming up....the SLK got lose and fishtailed and got out of it...I think the guy messed his nappies  ...I almost did:eek: rex n effect 04-23-2004, 08:42 AM Originally posted by nhluhr i had my 245 MX's sliding (aka drifting) a LOT this weekend on a little mountain road west of here... That was fun! I have the same tires and the sidewalls rolled just a little with the 36/35psi that I usually use on the street. They definitely need 40psi or more for HEAVY cornering or autocross, but ride comfort on the street suffers noticeably with higher pressures. Originally posted by nhluhr I need to increase the ride height in the front too... Just wondering why you think that? Kostamojen 04-23-2004, 11:01 PM Ive actually found that I had to lower the tire pressure on the track to get the grip out of the tire. With my suspension now, if I run like 40/40 cold the car oversteers like a madman  so I run more like 36/35 cold now for track/autox and it works great. abqkid 04-23-2004, 11:39 PM just got my kumho mxs on and they are sick. that is easyto say as all i have tried before that was the stockers. they grip on everything:banana: even the tiny little pebles all over the road:furious: other than the pebble thing they are sick. |
