i need a group of apex s-afc users to test an idea. useing an air intake and afc with vent water protector off on air intake side, i think we could test the air flow of the intake . does the vent suck air out, or does it help the filter buy pushing air in????? useing the afc we could monitor the air flow.....please e-mail if your interested in trying my experiment.....

i wont have a chance to do it this week, but i will next week. It'd be interesting to see an aftermarked scoop that replaces the vent!

I'm pretty sure the vent sucks out. That's the point of them being there... well then again, what's the point of our non-functional hood scoops?

I have a cold air intake (shielded area) right under that vent too. HM! interesting...

The hood vents allow trapped air in the engine compartment to be sucked out as air velocity over the vent rises. This reduces lift & is used in such cars as the Viper GTS-R & the Jag XK-R.

should i take it off? or put it back on , i know have a hks super flow air intake, should the vent suck air out of the filter?thus reduceing the airflow?

I might be crazy but when i take my water protector off, i could swear my car has a little more power but i have no way to test this. The filter on my weapon*r sits alomost right under the vent. Maybe it's just because it sounds louder with the vent open.

Just a thought ... anything you do to reduce engine compartment temperatures would probably be a good thing for most aftermarket intakes.
Regardless of the direction of the air, in or out of the hood vent, the air ingested by the engine would probably be cooler. http://208.9.184.110/NonCGI/smile.gif

I can positivly say that the side vents help stabilize the car. Before I took them off my car used to wander at high speeds, but when I took them off, at over 100 mph the car was stuck to the ground, no wandering.

so has anyone who owns a S-AFC actually run it with/without the hood vent to compare the difference in air flow?

I don't think you will notice any difference in airflow at all. There might be a difference in power because you are sucking in cold air, but I think the actual volume of air wil lbe the same.

Get the 22B vents.
