I've searched and read a lot of posts but I have not been able to find anwers to the specifics of my situation. Please forgive my asking yet another "will this work" question.
I have a 2000 impreza brighton 2.2 liter and I would like to gain some power. I don't want to go to the effort and expence of adding a turbo or doing a turbo engine swap. I would be quite content with swapping to the SOHC 2.5 liter, possibly with a set of cams in the future.
I would like to know if I can swap in the phase II 2.5 liter and use the existing ECU and wiring harness from my 2.2 liter. I have not been able to find a thread about this type of conversion with a relatively new (MAP) car as a starting point.
Will I have to use my existing coils and get longer spark plug wires? Will I have to use my 2.2 throttle body? Will I need to splice injector plugs? What kind of electrial difficulties can I expect or is this a plug and play type swap? Will this ECU be able to control the air/fuel ratio as well as stock or can I expect it to tend to run rich or lean? Does anyone have any experience with this?
Thanks,
Owen
