I recently bought a 99 Legacy Outback (72k miles) from a Texas dealer and drove it home to Wisconsin. I had 150 mile warranty. At 200 miles the AT light began blinking. Once engine is restarted, the lite won't come on for 50 miles, but the check engine lite triggers after two of these episodes occurred. The car drives fine. PO743 error code gave me the impression of a weak over drive solenoid. Could I be correct?
Getting to the toll booth in IL, I had to stand in traffic to get to the money bucket. The engine smoked so bad that I thought it would catch fire. Oil was dripping out of the CAM cover and falling to the exhaust. I'm under the impression that the front seals need replacing. Could I be correct?
After convincing the wife that she would love this car after I got home (and arranging for service this coming monday) we got in the car to head to the store and found the brake and the battery lite on (the check engine lite is on as well, but for the reason above). The battery reads 12.5 volts with the engine running and off. I'm under the impression that my alternator is in need of replacing. Could I be correct?
Am I having all these issues because this car may have sat for some time before I purchased it or ? Could it be possible that all these issues are somehow related? Would anyone care to send me a lucky rabbits foot. I am hoping that my next 15k miles will be better than my first 1k miles.

Sounds to me like unrelated problems, the only common factor may be lack of regular maintenance which would have resulted in these things being detected and dealt with.
Your first recourse should be with the dealer who sold it to you, despite the 150 mile warranty (is that all the law requires out there?). If they are at all reputable and concerned they should take care of it for you, and if they don't you should contact the Better Business Bureau or its equivalent in their state.
