View Full Version : Fog Light Mod FAILED MY2000

I tried to follow the instructions in the modifications section so I can turn on my fog lamps without turning on my headlights and I connected all the wires as the instructions described but I ended up with no fog lamps at all. The fog lamp button LED would light up but not my fog lamps. Since I have a MY00, I have standard cuise control which is what the brown connector plugs into. Any ideas? Am I doing something wrong for the MY00 that's different because I have cruise control?

Also, what's the best place to tap for powering the A/F meter?

Thanks in advance.

Nizz-

I tried the same thing on my car. It didn't work, and when I asked the dealer, they told me that I had the wire tapped into the high beam wire (Subaru changed the wire color). See if they turn on with the high beam. I have a copy of the wiring diagram at my house...I will look at it, and let you know which wire it is.

I have a MY2000 Blue Ridge Pearl Coupe (2600 miles) and I just completed the fog lamp mod SUCCESSFULLY. My fog lamps work with either full headlamps, or just parking lights. The button does NOT light up, just like imprezer said it would not. Maybe you guys spliced the wrong wire, or connected your "custom" wire to the wrong end of the one you cut that goes to the pink relay (whew- swallow that one) Any ways, just letting you know it worked on mine.. and also, it was the same color wires from the directions. I believe it was Blue/White first, then White/Yellow second. Im not sure though. Check the mods section again.

I wish Jesse would weigh in here... he has complete diagrams for foglight mod 2.

Anyway, many owners have successfully completed foglamp mod 2. Your dealer was BSing, there is no "highbeam wire", especially not on the cruise control!!

PK - There is a high beam wire. Haven't you ever noticed that when you put your high beams on that your fog lights go off? The high beam wire is just going to another relay in the system so that it turns off the fog lights when the brights are on.

Can someone please post or email me (specopsrb6@aol.com) this foglight mod 2?

Nick, there is no highbeam wire per se, nor is there a separate highbeam relay. The highbeam switch on the stalk just ungrounds several relays when you switch it, one of which is the one and only foglamp relay. Anyway, I promise you there's no highbeam wire on the cruise control plug.

Andrew - Maybe I could, but it's LONG and I am not willing to be held accountable for potential damage to club members' electrical systems which could result from attempting this mod. E-mail Jesse Mullan, he has the diagrams. If you need instructions after that you should not be trying this yourself (it's a lot more involved than foglamp mod 1).

PK - I agree, there shouldn't be a foglight wire on the cruise control stalk.

But you're saying that the high beam stalk removes the ground from the relays that run the headlight (normal) and the foglights?

I haven't had the time to sit there and screw around with wires for hours to figure out which is which, but it'd be nice to remove that from the foglights so they's stay on if the headlights or high beams were on at all times. I don't care for the mod to leave them on with just parking lights - seems pointless to me. I leave just my parking lights on a lot so that'd be why, but if you wanna style with just the parking and fogs on, ok I can see that.

8Complex,

In foggy conditions, having your headlights on can impair your line of sight when the beam from your headlights reflect off the fog. I've driven through soup wishing that I could turn off my headlights and keep my fog lamps on so I could see better. Most European cars are capable of doing this. I don't know why the Japanese cars aren't.

You guys really need to meter these wires before you go hooking anything up. Diodes may be necessary as well. I haven't looked over the diagram yet, but i am planning to do this mod to my MY00 sedan in a few days. When i have completed it i will post update info.

Rimmie - it't been done. My car can turn on the foglamps whenever the parking lamps are on, and I don't have a highbeam cutout. E-MAIL JESSE.

PK - Ok, where can I get those instructions? That sounds very worthwhile a mod, I'll spend a night mapping wires and checking things for that. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smile.gif

I did the mod on MY00 with minimal problems.
On my car, the blue and brown wire harnest for fog lites and cruise were switched (color of harnest switched not placement.) look at the harnest this guys left hand is pointing to. http://www.impreza-rs.com/images/fog5.JPG

Here's the install link for the fog mod on this site http://www.impreza-rs.com/fogmod.htm

Okay, okay. Fine fine fine.

I have a 1996 Impreza LX, and it has slightly different wiring.

I drew up something in Visio to help me figure out how the foglight mod would work.

Feel free to email me with questions. I don't know if I will have the answers, but we'll see.

Two more things:
<ul>
If you want the Visio file, let me know.
In Minnesota, you can legally have up to four headlights/auxilliary lights pointing forward. You may have any combination of headlights, foglights, auxilliary driving lights, or auxilliary headlights.

You may choose to turn off your headlights and only use auxilliary lighting during inclement weather. You must have some form of lighting on between sundown and sunset, and any time you have your windshield wipers on. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smile.gif

People have been talking about this mod lately. So I thought I'd bring it back to the top. I'm gonna try this myself in about two weeks.
