Hi all, time has come to start on the engine portion of the wiring on my car-i'm using a 03 sti engine in my legacy. I've read many many threads on how to do this, but nobody really agrees if it's the same as the version 7 or not.
So does anybody know for a 100 percent sure? I would really hate to mess up on it from bad knowledge! I've contacted a couple of different vendors that do this and they're pretty tight lipped about it so far.
Also since i'm using a 02 wrx harness i should use the engine portion of the harness too ( the actual harness that sits on the engine) or should i just use the sti one that came with it?
Thanks
Brent

There is only a few wires that need to be switched around but generally 7-8's are the same.

I know there are only a couple of wires, but i'm trying to figure out exactly which ones ;) .
I read the super street (or whoever did the jdm ver 7 swap) article and it was really really easy. But, mine's the version 8. So, hopefully somebody can shine some light my way and i can get this beast running

i think the main difference is the DBW offered on the ver 8 but not on the 7, if you are planning on just swapping throttle bodies or even manifolds, then you will be great shape cause you wont need to worry about the tgv valves or dbw.

i really dont know for certain the answer but i would suspect just dbw, but could be other variables as well.

good luck

Ben

Yeah, i'm swapping the entire engine over and using the 02 wrx usdm harness.

Dude, the mechanic I used did a ver 8 swap before my car and used a usdm WRX harness and just wired the AVCS in. The v7 and v8 AVCS are IDENTICAL. There are guys even running a ver8 ECU with a ver7 harness and motor.

Try: www.pdxtuning.com and look under featured cars... read their mod lists.

I am using a V8 JDM ECU in my car. As far as I can tell there are no real major differences, everything just plugged in and ran. I had a V7 engine harness I used and used the "swap the pins" method for wiring the AVCS solenoids, and ran new wires for the cam sensors.

Phatsuby, JDM V8 2L motors don't have DBW like the 2.5L turbo cars.

Yeah, my car is full cable throttle :p. That's cool as hell that you can run a version 8 ecu with the 7 wiring coz this means i can basically just swap everything over then .
Thanks
