Ok update !!! Yokohama aDVAN 048

Will come today, and I too, will be apart of the Japaneese legacy of lucky drivers who have been able to drive on this imfamous tire !!

I had three choices, Pirelli Corse, Michelin Pilot Sport Cups, or the Yoko Advan 048. I choose the 048 because, I have always wanted this tire, and I had been used to the Yoko 032( a long time ago ) , and kinda wanted to see how this tire would feel, and its new in the USA. !!( dont flame me for getting a "r" tire for daily driving, as I commute very little now. To put in perspective how crazy its been in the past with driving on "R" tires.(( In 98' our trailer brake was seized the morning before we set to leave for Watkins Glen, so it was dont go to this big race that we spent alot of prep time for(not enough on the trailor obviously) OR drive the "only legal on paper" Porsche 6 hrs to upstate NY. Well I drove it, back up parts car and all, with new Hoosiers !! Cranked the camber back to -1.0 and drove it, along the way ran over dead dear, ripped off the front splitter, got there dialed the camber back in, set toe, put on the D5 slicks, qualified 3rd, and went on to finish 3rd on the "weathered" Hoosiers. So I dont think driving a 048 around a little will hurt !!))Anywayyy, I wanted a tire that I could drive to and from the track if need be, yet, would have that same "070" kinda feeling with turn in. We'll see, stay tuned for the driving impression..

--------------THANKS LUKE@THE TIRE RACK !! -----------------------

-----maybe someone could post a picture of the closeup--------------

Any comments on how these are expected to compare with the 032's?

Yokohama motorsport guys said it uses a softer compound than the 032r,...thats what they say. So even ifs it s the same, i'll be happy, as I was coming from the Bridge 070. Seems like a nice sticky street - track tire. We'll see.:)

Thats a really good tire. We were campaigning a Integra type R in Honda Japan's Integra one make race and when ADVAN sponsored our car with A048s, we chopped one second off the lap time

It's a shame Yokohama did not bring in anything other than 18's. Some 245/40-17 or even 225/45-17 would be nice.

Thats what I thought until I saw the price on them. Still way out of my price range, so oh well... Very nice tire though.

I don't know about in Japan but, here in the States they are a Porsche spec race tire ...... that's why they are only in 18's

225/45-17 Advan O48R is the spec (rear) tire for the Sport pack version of the Lotus Elise soon to arrive on our shores (and my garage). I'm sure it won't be cheap but it will be available at Lotus dealers and may see wider distribution once the cars start hitting our shores.

OUr info shows the OE tire to be the A038

In japan, this tire is very popular, anyone who gets the "Impreza" magazine will tell you that. Its been popular for a little while now, and the Japaneese race guys love it !! So, I am happy. We'l get them on tomorrow, and take some pictures.

I just checked lotus's site and it does say the Advan 048R's are part of the sport pack on forged rims.

Beware, drive real slow when it rains or you'll be hydroplaning into the ditch or another car. Everytime it rains, I have to slow to 60km/h with these tyres and it was still scary sometimes.

My 245/40/17's lasted about 1,050km on the track with 4,200km of 'normal' fast highway driving. Treadware is 60.

Dude, I 100%...agree with you on that, 100%.as I used to drive Hoosiers on the street for 6 months with -3.0 degrees, so rain was tough sometimes, esp standing water,..BUT thanks for the warning amd the reminder !!

They are most definitely A048R's on the sport package Elise. You can check out the order guide on this thread:

I tried to come away from this with info for a push-push, then tail gone type of car, like the WRX can be, ( can be), so the Yokohama seemed to have the best turn in, and is a "feel " tire, not a sqeal tire. Yes the Michelin gave it a good runs for its money, but I think, they all but said that the Yoko is marginally best in the rain,....if you read between the lines. OPINIONS....

Luke...none of the US version of the Elise have been delivered to the US with the exception of the cars that were at the introduction at Barber Motorsport Park a few weeks ago. Dealer demos are due in May with the first customer cars hopefully in June. You were probably looking at a euro car imported to this country but I have never heard of an A038 personally.

The R compound review posted above was from the Elise board and was posted to show a review of the sport package tire. In addition, check this thread with a picture of a Chrome Orange federal (us) version car from the rear at the press introduction sporting A048R:

Luke seems to be this forum's Doubting Thomas. He's quite skeptical of manufacturers' claims. Remember how he insisted that the BBS/STi wheels were not forged? It took a digital photo of the wheel with "forged" stamped on the inside to convince him.

After much agonizing, I ordered my Elise (BRG/biscuit) without the Sport Suspension Package (Minnesota road surfaces being what they are), but I was sorely tempted by those A048s.

no it was an actual US model and there are several of them running around with manufacturer plates on them because they have to go through the federalization programing and three of them have already been here

I'll promise to eat my hat if the sport package doesn't come with A048's but enough of trying to convince someone that it is the spec tire. It looks like the A038 is a tire designed for the Euro 340R Elise but it's never been mentioned as a tire for the very different Federal version of the car.

BTW...Euro versions with manufacturers plates have been running around since last fall as demos until the Federal version demos are available. I drove a blue 111s before putting down my deposit.

I'm also undecided about the sport package though I haven't spec'd out my car yet. I'm thinking more and more about skipping the sport package and going aftermarket for some double adjustable coil-overs (Ohlins, Nitron's, etc.) and some aftermarket forged wheels. I'll most likely order Graphite Gray with Red leather/touring package but I probably won't have my car until late fall or early winter.

Wait a sec, I thought the standard equipment on the Elise were Yokohama ADVAN Neova AD07s? I did think I heard something about 48s offered as an option, but I never heard anything about the A046 (also stock tire on Evo).

Is the Elise REALLY going to have the Neovas? It'll have em in a size I can use on my rex, so I was going to try and get a set, if not I suppose I'll go with the A046s.

You can probably tell that most of us that are waiting for our Elise are staying on top of every bit of information as it comes out. Since people are already ordering cars I don't think you'll see any changes from their order form, website, dealer order guide, etc. but we'll see in a month or so when the first customer cars show up.

The Advan Neova AD07 is the standard tire for the base model without the sport package. The sizes are 175/55-16 front and 225/45-17 rear. The sport package tire is the A048R in 195/50-16 front and 225/45-17 rear.

BTW...I do enough arguing with my own wife so all you guys are your own to deal with yours. :disco:

Tire Rack is now listing the OE A048R Lotus Elise sport package tires on it's website. That includes the 225/45-17 size that could be used on a WRX or STi for $212 per tire. I don't think they are available today but they are gearing up for the arrival of the U.S. version of the Elise this summer.

I can let you know in about two weeks, but I'm running the medium compounds, not the MH- same size though on my wagon. I needed a tire compromise that I could autox w/ and do HPDE's. I looked really hard at the Victoracer, but the 225/45 in the A048 nudged me that way :)

If it was strictly track time I would have chosen the MH.
