I plan to swap a motor into a 93 impreza AWD. Possibly an STI or legacy motor. Perhaps even a USDM WRX. I was wondering if you guys could tell me what is needed besides the motor and drivetrain to complete this swap. I know i will need a crossmember, and a new hood. Besides that if someone could write me a list and approximate cost i would really really appreciate it. im trying to figure out if i can fit this in my budget or not.

Im particularly concerend with the brakes, hubs, axles and converting and upgrading the brakes. Can i convert it to WRX brakes, will that work? How much do those go for?

Thanks for any input.

I'm not sure if this helps, but after this weekend I'll have a full WRX undercarriage for sale minus the front brakes. When I say full I mean tranny, axles, hubs, diffs, etc (except front brakes). I'm not sure what I want for it right now, but if you are interested let me know bvoils@indy.net

before any one else says it, and totoherbs comes in here listing 5 links as usual, i would do a search.;)

all the info you are looking for is out there, and in this forum, it has been discussed quite a bit, and would be a lot to list.

you can convert to wrx brakes but i dont think you need diff hubs and axles, just diff brackets for the calipers and then the rotors.

with the sti on the otherhand you do need to switch out the whole rearend to use the rear brembos

well ive done a serach but and found one thread discussing what is needed for a swap in terms of all the parts not including the engine and tranny, but its all very general and i cant find much pricing on it. i was just hoping to get a bit more detailed answer because i have a very strict budget to work with.

Not to be a jerk, but how many searches did you do? You want to know a bunch of different things and need to do independent searches for each of them. Aside from that pricing is about as predictible as the weather. You can sometimes find really good deals, other times things are hard to find and expensive. Unless you buy a complete front clip or a USDM wreck, you will be hard pressed to find everything you want in one single buy. Getting a complete basic engine swap is not hard to find, but throw in brakes, and other things you want to upgrade and you need to keep shopping. Do it piece by piece based on your budget. What is your budget?

My budget lies somewhere around 7k. I have a mechanic who has a E20G and will swap it for me all for about 3500. Leaving me with 3500 for miscellaneous parts.

Yeah i understand you guys probably get annoyed with people asking the same questions over and over. I'll try to look around a little more. I've only been on the forums for about two days but ive been looking all over them for the past two days nonstop for information. But i dont know too much about it so i dont even know what i should be looking for to be honest.

The 93 Ls have rear drum brakes if im not mistaken. i tried looking up info on a converstion to disk brakes but was not able to find anything. LXs models have the discs all around and abs but they didnt come in manual did they?

I guess what i really need to know is what exactly is required in the swap besidse the motor. Because i dont know that i dont really know what to look for.

I barely fit my swap in at under 7k...that was without the drivetrain...that is going to be this summer...although it isn't needed
