i just installed a new engine in my car and everything is connected and good but the car wont start, it clicks when you turn the key, and clilcks repeatedly with the key held in, my starter is good, thats it, battery is working fine, just wont start.... any thoughts???:confused: i know this ? is vague and all but that is basically where we are at right now, any comments even if it is a guess or just a suggestions would be deemed as a possibility, but if it is just an absolute guess tell me so, but ne reply helps-thanx

What engine in what car?

Is your fuel pump priming, can you hear it?

If your pump is priming make sure your fuel lines are not crossed.

thats what we think might be wrong with it, is there somwhere that will show the correct mapping of the fuel line tubing>> its an ej22 by the way and i dont know what it would sound like if it were priming so explain further i guess

Wow, no offense but a little research may have made things go smoother.

Turn the key so the car gets power. If you hear a whining from the rear the pump is priming. You can remove the rear seat to better hear it if need be.

If it's priming then the pump is sending fuel. To try the fuel lines simply switch the top two that go onto the engine. There is a bracket with three lines going into it. Good luck.

If it "clicks" when you turn the key, it means the starter is getting the trigger from the ignition switch but a low voltage/current condition exists. I would start by checking power and ground cables from battery to starter and or ground. Concentrate on the starting circuit only and ignore everything else, ie fuel system, until the motor starts turning over at a decent speed.

What makes you thing the battery and starter are not the problem?

Btw, if it's a used engine make sure it's not seized:furious:

No, I,m not sure your battery is ok. How can I be?

A simple check can be done by turning on on the headlights. Nice and bright means battery has decent charge, not so bright means it's not fully charged (or any of the other things I mentioned, excluding starter)

Take the battery to a local garage and have them charge it for an hour or two if you think it's weak

I steady clicking sound would suggest, to me, the starter. I clicking that drones and loses its rythym should be the battery.

with the clicking I'm, oh say 100% it's not fuel, it means that the starter isn't cranking for whatever reason, be it, it's gone bad, battery is low, or the engine is seized...do you have a voltmeter/multimeter, that will make testing the batteries voltage really easy...

i dont think its my starter because my starter was fine when i last drove the car like a week ago, the battery is basically new, the fuel pump is priming, i didnt try the lights but i will, i jsut ran outside and the battery is dead at the moment so im going to charge it in the morning, so u guys think that the fuel is fine??? what are ur thoughts if the battery isnt the problem or if i find out the fuel lines are correct??? what exactly does seized mean, im not to good with auto lingo sorry, the shop i bought this from said that it starts up and the compression tests turned out fine- so i guess im not too sure what that means:confused:

i forgot to say that earlier when i was trying to turn on the car the radio and lights inside the car were working but now the battery is dead

Here's what you do. Have someone in the car trying to start it up. Have someone else outside the car with a big long screwdriver and a hammer. When you're trying to start it up, have that person tap the starter and hopefully, if the starter is the problem, then it might turn over.

my starter died overnight and it only had 9K miles on it. everything would turn on and you could hear a click, but the engine would not turn over. pull the starter and hook it up to a battery and check it.

any thoughts on jumping the car??

i tried tapping the starter but that didnt do ne thing, it still clicks when u turn the key adn clicks repeatedly when u hold the key down, i charged the battery for a few hours but when i turned on the lights it died so im going to charge it longer, anybody want to explain whtat the engine seizing means?? any other possibilities as to what the hell is going on??

Just take out the starter and take it to autozone they can test it for free.

im trying to get the starter out but it is connected by some white tube that i cant get off, the chilton manual doesnt help at all, any thoughts on what the hell this tube is??? the pins are completely removed as well as the starter, its just being held on by some damn tubing:mad:

why are you taking your starter out?

always check the things that are easier to remove first. (have the battery checked first)

if you charged the battery, then put the lights on and it died, it's your battery not holding charge.

welli tried jumping it and that didnt work-any suggestions now???it just clicks and thats it, and i think that my battery might have died the other day because one of my internal llights might hav ebeen on all day, not sure
