Anyone know if the new wrx's or the sti's (02+) interior/ dash, etc will fit into the GC8 imprezas? That would be a nice refreshed look for the Best Gen. Imprezas.

View Full Version : WRX/ STI Int'r. Conversion into GC8 rs2.5-3.0 04-22-2004, 05:04 PM Anyone know if the new wrx's or the sti's (02+) interior/ dash, etc will fit into the GC8 imprezas? Any info??? mrbell 04-22-2004, 05:44 PM I've wondered the same thing Kingpin 04-22-2004, 06:16 PM We are actually in the process of converting the dash from the GD into GC. It is not a direct bolt up but they are very similar in design. We hope to be finishing it up this weekend. Write up to follow. Thanks. rs2.5-3.0 04-22-2004, 07:34 PM Nice! Is that going to include what is alll involved along with pictures and the whole 9 yds? Plus I figured that once I convert to the wrx engine, it would be nice to have the Sti or even the WRX guage cluster. Idears idears idears... Kingpin 04-22-2004, 08:38 PM We are trying to be as through as possible in capturing the info on the install. This is a unique case as the car already has a Version 8 STi engine. It has been interesting thus far. More to follow. Thanks. mrbell 04-23-2004, 11:10 AM so how about a quick preview... you say it's not a direct bolt up, but does that mean physically the bolts that hold things in are in different places and you're fabing adapter brakets or something? or electrically things don't wire up? or is it just a matter that things are different shapes and you're having to shave things down? I'm really intersted now as my dash has some rattles... the WRX seems better in this regard maybe we can transfer that over dead-eye 05-01-2004, 02:42 AM Any updates? I'm very interested to see how this turns out since I'm seriously contemplating having a Ver 8 dash and engine/transmission swapped into my GC8. Hopefully, it'll be cheaper than buying a Supra. Capt Crunch 05-01-2004, 11:57 AM OMG that would be sweeeeeeet. Hellllllllllo sti cluster! kastle 05-01-2004, 01:07 PM Originally posted by dead-eye Any updates? If they ever finish with my car, we'll have an update.... :) Kingpin 05-01-2004, 03:08 PM We are getting close and hope to finish up this week. There is a lot to change electrically and physically. We will go more into depth when it is finished. Thanks. kastle 05-02-2004, 03:13 AM Originally posted by kastle If they ever finish with my car, we'll have an update.... :) I didn't mean to sound rude... It's a HUGE conversion, and that shizzle takes a lot of time. Not the kind of thing to do if you need your car in a week to 2... :D Kingpin has been super great doing the conversion, and are doing a top notch job. I spent another Sat. with them, great guys. Mike even gave me a 30 mile ride home tonight... :) PUMPKINS 07-23-2004, 02:45 AM any news?? mykrrrr 07-23-2004, 05:56 AM Simon Lines of Prodrive is fitting a GD interior into his GC. IIRC, someone posted up a link on NABISCO. -mykr. Simon Lines 07-23-2004, 08:26 AM http://www.simon.tunertek.com/?M=A Cheers Simon Mumbles 07-23-2004, 09:17 AM Yes technically it can "fit" however, as you can see here; http://www.simon.tunertek.com/Dashin1.jpg There is a 2" gap on the side of the dash, and the door panels are indented by the dash. Not exactly a clean install by my standards, although i give him credit for trying. I'm currently fitting the ver7 cluster into my Gc8. It takes a bit of trimming, but it does in fact fit, and when i've completed the install, (2 weeks) i'll have pictures. -brendan Kingpin 07-23-2004, 01:24 PM Car is 90% finished. Will post final pics shortly. Thanks. PUMPKINS 07-24-2004, 12:15 AM thanks for all reply... im a bit concern with the wiring job.. coz won't do it if i cannot use aircon and lights... PUMPKINS 07-24-2004, 12:21 AM why not use the GD door panel 2?? i know it wont fit nicely but need a trimmed.. but why not go all GD? chrisj 07-24-2004, 10:52 AM Damn i just posted about this...only I'm not concerned with the dash, just the cluster. If you have the info doo share!!! CJ Kingpin 07-24-2004, 01:17 PM I will have pictures and info to post on Monday. Thanks. chrisj 07-27-2004, 04:27 PM Whats the werd.... OvenMitts 08-01-2004, 11:27 PM Any news, Kingpin? I can't wait to see something. We'll see if my dash swap comes close to how yours looks. PUMPKINS 11-25-2004, 04:20 AM any news yet?? Hyper 11-25-2004, 10:53 PM for those who can't wait to see, let me post a pic of a car in Moscow one more time. I thought you were talking about dash ala cluster! I didn't even notice at first that that car in the link is GC.... had to look at the seat and window buttons  my bad, time to go to bed :alien: Kingpin 11-26-2004, 01:17 AM We did finish the complete dash, however the customer took the car before we could get any quality pictures of it and I believe he sold it shortly after. Sorry I couldn't do more for you guys on that. It was Kastle's car if you would like to contact him I am sure he could provide you with photos. Thanks. garface 11-26-2004, 12:18 PM I just thought of this after looking at Simon's pics again. He used a car with the old style doorcards, even a GC or RS dash would have problems fitting with those doors. Newer GC door panels shouldn't have as much of a problem. Thanks. any email of him?? n can u share what its the most difficult parts of getting of that dash to GC?? r u using gc aircon or gd?? wiring??..hmm what else yea..icould not think  im thinkin of do that too but the important thing i need aircon, lights n cluster to be workin Mumbles 11-26-2004, 11:47 PM Here are some pics of my install. The cross bar, which you can see in some of my pics, need to be used. There are a series of screws the hold the upper dash in place, those will no longer be in use , so you have to create new holes to tie down the dash cover. If you are using the heater core and blower from the GC, they must be, you have to adopt the hardwires to the ducting... you have to find ways to attach the radio surround part to the upper dash, the airbags..... too much stuff to list. And way too much work. I'm sure the end results will be nice, but i questioned doing this myself, and it's just waaay too much work. -B |
