Just wondering if any of you has come accross a UK magazine road testing the USDM STI. I'd be curious to see how they like it. Particularly as I have an EVO where they bashed the newer UK edition STI (with 300hp out of a 2.0); calling it too twitchy. Anyone?

The 300 hp version you've mentioned is an upgrade option from a regular UK STi that produces approximately 276 hp. I seem to have read somewhere that the UK STi does not have DCCD? It would be interesting to see a comparative test on the USDM STi and the UK EVO. But you must also take into account that the EVO that they’ve been testing is a grey market import. The official UK version is a bit detuned but still have the AYC, unlike the USDM EVO. Speaking of which, it would also be interesting to see how the USDM EVO stacks up against its more capable cousins from abroad…

Anyway, which mag and issue are you referring to? I know that Top Gear stated that they’d take the STi over the EVO any day for all around real world drivability. (I fly a lot…so I read a lot…
 )

Exactly. thats why i'd like to see what they have to say about it. Also, as for Top Gear saying they'd take the sti any day, was'nt that a Jeremy Clarkson article? He'll change his mind by the next issue :D

Though, I spent another 45 minutes or so in an STI yesterday (driving it) and i was much more impressed than the last time i drove one. Made my gti feel like a wet noodle.

The new WR1 has about 315-320 BHP and DCCD, but still 2.0

Litchfield Car Imports are modifying a JDM GL (Spec C plus the "luxuries"), changing the suspension to adjustable coilovers geared to street use, and then fitting an EJ257 bottom end and selling it as a 350+ BHP and 356+ lbft "T25" with a 3 year warranty.

Evo is sold officially now in the UK with approx 260, 280, 300 and 330 BHP variants.

Yeah. I remember reading a piece on the 300hp UK STI (can't remember exactly which varient it was). They found it to be too nervous, with all the power coming on at once above a certain RPM: Inducing sudden oversteer. The US STI does not really have this issue; with the 2.5 motor providing a very linear power curve. I'd like to see EVO or T.G. etc get their hands on one to compare it to the UK / Europe-only cars that we don't get here. The STI is now a known factor here; but we still can't be sure of how it compares to it's various foreign market cousins because of it's unique motor.

Road and Track drove the Japan Evo and Japan STI along with the US versions of both.

They concluded that they preferred the US STI to the Japanese version and preferred the Japan Evo to the US. version.

They tested the US EVO and US STI against each other and the Evo won the comparo according to their ratings system, but the editors preferred the STI. So, there you go.

John, not quite right I'm affraid ;)

The T25 only has a 1 year warranty as standard, and with the introduction of the EVO VIII MR the car's are:

260, 280, 310, and 340 now...

Got a test drive tomorrow in a 310 for the other half who's also considering the T25 :D

the UK STI is 300bhp with the Prodrive Power Pack (PPP) option, stock its like 265bhp. The PPP is covered under the Subaru UK warranty. Both are 2.0L and have no DCCD. The WR does have DCCD but is still 2.0L.

The EVO eqivilant is the FQ300 which I believe now has the option to go to 330BHP (use to be 300bhp)

The "review" of the Japanese spec cars was kinda lame. I just wonder how much the US STI's steering has been "dumbed down" for the USA...

Just been corrected myself ;) it's a 340 she's interested in, and I quote: 'Why would I want to go out in something I wouldn't buy?'
