View Full Version : Best Peer2Peer File sharing program? Which do you use?
Trizzle 04-23-2004, 01:49 PM So i have used iMesh for a couple years and it really worked well. Lately though it's been flooded with corrupted mp3's (intentionally distributed by RIAA methinks) and it's tough to download any halfway popular song without 3 or 4 tries to find one that is real. The bad news I suspect may be that because the imesh/kazaa network is/was one of the most popular, many peoples collections may now contain a bunch of those garbage songs and even on other networks it will be a problem. Pretty wiley plan by those damn RIAA peoples.
I have direct connect and eDonkey also which are nice for larger downloads, but not as convenient for songs.
What do you all use and like?

TimStevens 04-23-2004, 01:59 PM I buy CDs. Better than dealing with spyware and corrupted tunes... oh and it's legal too :p
Colonel Lingus 04-23-2004, 02:09 PM K-Lite is the best running. It is also plagued with the RIAA crap now though. I have actually got more mp3s from trading with people over band boards than I ever did with the p2p stuff.

This Ink Is Used 04-23-2004, 02:11 PM OMG, I hate corrupted mp3's so much..
some songs have taken me 9 different tries to find a good one.
Some I get lucky and it's good out the bat, is it the RIAA? So annoying.
Nightwing 04-23-2004, 02:11 PM I use "Shareaza". it connects to gnutella 1 & 2, and e-mule/e-donkey. no spyware, and a pretty good interface.
ColinL 04-23-2004, 02:13 PM these days, it's almost exclusively usenet (newsgroups) or retail purchases for me. I have winmx and .torrent loaded but don't use them often. I just don't get onesy-twosies that often. I want the whole cd most of the time, and I usually pay for it.
Mencius01 04-23-2004, 02:16 PM Sorry all I have to say is when I first skimmed the thread title I saw:

http://www.ratajik.com/stationripper/
very very cool have about 6gb of music I have to wade through from the past 2 days of downloading...
FYI: its a shoutcast streamripper...as long as you find a 128+kbps stream the quality aint so bad

ImprezaRSinCT 04-23-2004, 03:53 PM I have access to a few 0day FTPs, but I rarely d/l mp3s anymore unless it's something I really want.
if I'm looking for something and it's not on those sites, I'll just find someone who has it and have them rip it for me
Attila_Tha_Hun 04-23-2004, 04:12 PM If you're having problems with corrupted mp3's, there's a program called MP3 Shield (http://download.com.com/3000-2166-10260763.html)that will automatically detect corrupted mp3's as you are downloading them. I've been using it for a while now and it works flawlessly with Kazaa Lite.
A good way to avoid corrupted mp3's is to see how many sources are sharing the same file. The more that are sharing, the more likely you will download a part of the corrupted file from one of the sources. I always try to pick files that only 2 or 3 people share.
BeeGee 04-23-2004, 04:18 PM I use Limewire...I was lucky to get 1kb/sec with Shareaza, no idea what the problem was.
sleek 04-23-2004, 04:26 PM lime wire, i think its the best. but the do not share option doesnt work so i just move my stuff to a different folder

semabe 05-06-2004, 01:54 AM Why Trizzle don't hire a lawyer and wait for the RIAA and MPAA to send a friendly letter?
:D
Trizzle 05-06-2004, 01:56 AM I got an email from one of the movie companies one time... i quit sharing movies :) I wanna say it was Paramount but that doesn't seem right, i can't remember which one it was now though.

TDQuiksilver 09-12-2008, 01:54 PM Okay, I realize this is old but I figured it deserved a bump to see what people use for P2P other than torrent clients. Ares is basically dead, Limewire is garbage... anybody?
Christoff 09-12-2008, 02:03 PM newznet for 200-500 kbs downloads. But it's not exactly p2p
