Somebody answered for me...on a sidenote the Magnaflow Ti series is made in Japan..therefore it could be the same as the JIC setup.

I wanted to revive this thread. Anyone else have experience with MAGNAFLOW? I'm thinking of getting one.

If you're also bolting up an aftermarket downpipe with the Magnaflow, be prepared because it is one loud SOB. One of my club members has a Helix downpipe and the Magnaflow Ti, also running catless and that thing is very loud. If you like loud, I say go for it.;) The build quality is also very good, too.

STILL.. I am putting a new downpipe in also but I do NOT want loud! The guy said he may need to put a resonator or silencer in:eek: Will a silencer or resonator restrict flow?

WRX Jim

think about what you said..will a silencer restrict flow? OF COURSE, how else will it be quiet.

Apparently, there is a version of this exhaust available that
comes WITH a titanium resonator in it......I was speaking to a
shop up here that was putting together a volume purchase of
them.

I just got my Mag Ti w/o resonator and installed it last Friday.
The fit was great, the sound is real deap and aggressive. I paid about 1k$ shipped from hopup racing, took 5 or 6 business days to get here (east coast from west coast).

I had it on for a day with the silencer and a day w/o. If I were using the STi as a daily driver I would probably keep the silencer on but the STi is my weekend toy so its fine by me to be a little louder. Note that at idle it isn't loud and you can't really notice that its there with the windows up.

My Random Tech DP with 2 HFCs should be in this week so I can comment on the loadness with a little bit "free'er flowing" DP.

essogas

So how is the loudness then?

javid

I have had the Random Tech DP on for about 5 days now. It has two HFCs which is probably the reason that it didn't terriblely louder.

Unfortunatly, the cat back didn't fit well with the DP (the two lined up but there was a gap at the top of the two). Stock there is no gasket between the two and niether manufacture (magnaflow or Random) provided one. SO I picked up one gasket and it reduced the leak but there is still a little hissing. I pickup up a second gasket that is twice a thick as a standard and plan to put it in tonight. I am confident that it will be fixed, right now the gap at the top of the joint is less than 1/8" thick.

While playing around with this exhaust leak I have become more familiar with the end of the Magnaflow cat back (that mates with the DP) and I don't like it. hte entire exhaust is 3" except right before the end where it quickly reduces down to about 2.5" and then back up to maybe 2.75". If you stare at Magnaflows pics you can barely see what is going on at the end. It fit perfectly with the OEM DP, which probably explains the design. Right now though I wish it was all 3".

Anyone else have similar problems?
Any one have the end choped and a 3" pipe and flange welded on?

Still lovin the exhaust though.
Also after 2 weeks of the catback heating up, moving around, and bumpy roads, it still fits well with no clearance issues. Looks like I won't need any hangers.

The extra gasket fixed the leak. Still thinking about replacing the end of the cat back with a thicker flange and short 3" piece

The hardware this Magnaflow Ti exhaust
comes with is cadmium plated, correct?
I have heard from quite a few places that
cadmium on titanium will cause embrittlement of the titanium. Supposedly under prolonged heat the cadmium will infuse itself between the grains of the titanium and weaken the titanium. Causing cracks.
So i was wondering what hardware (that this exhaust comes with) is made of or plated with cadmium.
Has anyone had this exhaust long enough to experience a problem like this?

Put some muffler tape on the inside diameter of the connectors if you are worried.
