josh

...and it fits great. better than stock actually. and the power. WOW.

the system is a 3" catless from the turbo back. the back section is one piece all the way to the down pipe. the down pipe is 2.5" i think. the car spools insanely quick now. i can hear the turbo even more then after the snorkus removal mod.

i have really only driven around the block, so i will be back later with more of a review.

josh

PS the sound is insane. loud. only way to describe it.

ok. pics will come in thenext few days. i like the looks alot.

Dspeed, i think the wife will be ok with it, i am just going to have to stay off the throttle with her in the car. it is loud. but man is it FAST!!!! wow. i am running the with no MBC or EBC (yet) and everything seems to run great. the car sounds mean tho. real mean.

it needs to be lowered soon, the sound doesn quite fit the looks yet. i am geting a set of 99 RS wheels, w/ 008 track tires for the summer months. i am thinking tein sof s-tech spring for the time being, with the 22mm rea sway bar. i cant flippin wait...

Josh where in Livermore?

hmm... I am tempted but the wife will freak...
She already freaks when I accelerate hard and her head sticks on the headrest..

Also the noise makes me wonder if it is going to be an nice attraction to the local law enforcment and the CHP. I do not even want to think what would happen if they are to stop a car with catless exchaust(and figure it out...) the fine will be outrageous..) do you have like a mid pipe the can take a cat just in case? (and for smog tests?)

josh, what kind of Apex'i exhaust does this look like? N1 or Racing Medallion? please post some pix if you have any! http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif thanks!

titsataki, you should be able to pass smog without the cat. the turbo itself acts as a cat. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/tongue.gif the Galant VR4 i used to have didn't have a cat and it passed smog! http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/tongue.gif barely tho..haha

I am not so much worried about the emissions as much as the people noticing that they are no cats.. You guys think they will be smart enough to look under?

They fail my old Mazda not because of the emission level but of some item that was not working on my emission equip.

Josh what about O2 sesonrs on the OEM exchaust? did you have to remove or modify?
any CEL?

T.

Ps: but we do not have to smog for 3-4 years now...

it is a standard GC8 APEXi N-1 catless system. I got it from a guy who had noluck selling it on the classifieds. i really dont know who else might have one. but i am sure you can get one from someone who caries APEXi.

titsataki

i live right off vasco, near the scenic area. i am not too worried about noise. it is loud when you want it to be, but just driving around town, it isnt too bad, especially off throttle. CHP nor local authorities usually look for cats. but you NEVER know. no CEL's so far. The stock O2 sensor plugs into a bung on the exhaust. there is also a EGT guage bung, but it is almost to the end of the down pipe.

RimRockaz

it is an APEXi N-1. I will hopefully have pics today.

to boot, the system is much lighter than the stock one. i am really happy with it. the only think i will proly need to do is get the silencer for it.

any other questions let me know

titsataki

he he this is too kool.. not only you live in Livermore but you live off Vasco (of scenic on the side of the Citgo Gas station I am guessing the other way...? I live in the Maralisa development and usually turn right into scenic to go home.. usually I take scenic straight across past the fire station and shcool... kind surprised I never bumped into you... I am sure I will sooner or later...

XS engineering is coming out with the same set-up in about 1 month.

I am sponcered by them, so I can hook anyone up.

almost forgot, i threw an CEL yesterday. i am going to reset this morning and see what happens. not too worried tho, car runs fine.

titsataki

i dont have any idea how we miss each other. i walk my dogs by the school on the citgo side every night. bobski lives right over near you! i mean, we all live within a .5 mile radius from one another.

bobski and titsataki (and anyone really in the east bay), we should get together so you guys can see this exhaust. i will be around most of the day Monday if your interested.

Anyone who needs one of these (and I highly recommend it!) let apexwrx know. as he said before in this post, he can get more. thank milo!! if you got anything else lying around the garage, let me know.

Dspeed = the wife said NUTHING on our our drive to and fro El Sobrante Yesterday. this is HUGE! i was expecting many complaints, and got none. so it has officially passed the wife test. next test, suspension http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif

pic soon!

Good luck trying to hook up with Josh. I tried for like 3mos. Granted he had some serious stuff going on. But I think the guy is a genuine entra-vert. And only pertends to like people http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/tongue.gif. No really, we do need to hook up and hang. I figured you got that from Milo.

well It is quite funny I have not seen a WRX on the road until Saturday I so this black wagon WRX going by in and out burget (around noon) on north livermore... Now granted I ride my motorcycle to work every day but how hard is to miss a WRX (mine is sedona red...)
I have to go to a BBQ today... so I can't really meet... and I am sure you have plans as well....

I am still fighting that boost install (especially the location for the boost gauge)

I am seriouslly thinking of spending the money for the turbo gauge pack and have Livermore Subi install...(for the professional look/install)

Cheers

Hey Josh-

is that Apex loud or what?

did you buy the baffle for it?

i love that JDM N spec track look on the muffler. sideways baby!

if its quiet enough id be willing to sell my BPM for the a N1 rear section.

hey there,

EJ20WRX

is that Apex loud or what?

YES. surprisingly, my wife didnt say anything, but she is used to me, and my car parts. but it is loud. cool loud tho. I will get a sound bit later, and put it up. OR, come on down to lovely livermore, where us livermorons hang, and i will take ya for a spin.

did you buy the baffle for it?

nope. not yet. i proly will tho. make my wife happy, and maybe keep me from getting any tix.

i love that JDM N spec track look on the muffler. sideways baby!

me 2! it looks great, but the car needs to be lowered. if you look at the one pic, you can see how there are very few bends. nice and straight. neat.

if its quiet enough id be willing to sell my BPM for the a N1 rear section.

You will have to hear it yourself!

Go with a resistor in-line with the second o2.

Ken

josh
05-29-2001, 02:19 PM
dspeed

yes, resistor, why i said diode is beyond me...

i need to find a baffle. just to see waht it is like. for everyday use i guess. i dont need the sound all the time. but man the car is sooo much more fun now.

anyone want to guesss how much more power we get from no cats? one pre cat?

All gone I'd venture 25hp.

Ken

Philip
05-29-2001, 03:11 PM
Did you take in account that when getting rid of the cats you would also be increasing the size of the piping?

I have heard a number of people state that 15-20hp is hard to feel, with the new M2 Exhaust I can feel it in a HUGE way, and it got rid of only one of the cats (replaced the other with a newer cat).

I am not experienced enough to throw out numbers, but to me, 25hp sounds way to little. I could be wrong.....wouldn't be the first time http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/rolleyes.gif

hey

dspeed knows his s**t when comes to tuning cars, so I am not going to argue too much. but i do think i am getting a bit more. i was thinking closer to 30, 0r upwards of 32hp on cold evenings. this is my second turbo car, and i have never experienced this much increase in power to ANY car i have owned. the sad thing is i am already getting used to it. i will need more down the road, but for now, i must get the suspension dialed. the floppy sidewalls of the RE92's is really getting old. and i need to get rid of more of the body roll.

interesting tho to see how much power i am getting. maybe i will go do a g-tech run tonight...

josh

Philip
05-29-2001, 04:44 PM
titsataki, down-pipe back got replaced, so that cat got replaced by a newer faster flow cat. Up-pipe still has stock piping with the cat. Can read more about it..... http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/Forum4/HTML/002483.html

Ken

josh
05-29-2001, 08:28 PM
dspeed, you kill me. i will take 25 wheel hp without aurgument. i didnt realize you were talkin wheel hp in your first post.

i can feel the heat today. the ic is less efficient, and the ECU compinsated to reduce detonation, and the car feels a tid sluggish. i also think it is the stock boost control solenoid. it seems to sap the power right when it is getting good. i need a boost controller.

josh

titsataki

Just took a ride with josh. Man, that thing sounds wicked. It definitely pulled harder than my wagon, which is pretty much stock except for the MBC.

It is loud, and I think the wagon amplifies it a little bit.

Thanks for the ride, josh. Titsataki, I PM'ed you earlier to see if you want to come by to check it out too, but I didn't hear from you.

here ya go
http://joshandashley.com/carpics.html

They are huge pics, and i just threw them up. i will clean up later, but for now, eat your heart out http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif.

the CE cam on after about 40-50 miles. maybe more. I am going to reset the ecu, but i doubt that will clear it up. the bung being right at the turbo outlet is definatly waht is causing it. i might put a volt meter on the ecu, and see what the voltage is. maybe i can put a doide to ruduce the voltage.

any questions let me know.

Bobski,

Oh well I did not see the message until now and I was working late last night (what's new). I am concerned with the CELs though and it is Philip's set up that has been behaving for 600 miles... and it does give a good power boost...

05-30-2001, 09:54 AM
hey guys,

dspeed

actually i am getting about .95-1 bar. i was expecting more boost, but the ECU seems to do a pretty good job of keeping it under control. that is the problem tho. just when the party is starting, the boost gets tappered off. it still flows WAY better, and spools faster.

i am going to reset the ecu today, and see what that does, if anything.

..a bit too enticing for cops I think.. looks cool though.. just wouldn't do it on mine..

thanks man! i must thank you again. i love the exhaust. sound grea, and looks sooo good. the fit is what amazes me. it totally fits better thatn stock.

P2x

it really isnt as big as it looks. it looks kinda silly without the car being lowered, but that will come in due time http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif i do love DUSTING the unassuming rustang or porsche. I was drinving near moda car the other day, and a freshly SC'ed Si came to the light. One of the mechanics was test driving it. i took off and got a car length while he was burning the front tires. i let off cuz my wife was in the car, and he still had a hard time catching me. hehe. that was before i was done breaking in the car, so i wasn t really driving it hard. i would love to meet up again and blow his doors off.

i tell ya tho, the heat lately has put the dampers on. i so quickly forget how much heat affects turbo cars. guess i need an intercooler spray kit...
