A number of us were wondering how much the toe changes when changing the camber on our WRX's.
Darrin, at West End Alignment in Gardena, CA, did a bit of extra work for me to come up with these figures ...
With my NRX camber plates ... I have three degrees of camber range. At the moment I have mine set so I can go from - 1 to -4. But, without adjusting the toe ... I don't think one would ever want to use all of that range. Going from from -1 to -4 ... the total toe will change 9/8th of an inch!
So, for every degree of (negative) camber change ... there is 3/8th of an inch change in toe.
I had Darrin set my alignment so that I have 1/8th inch total toe-IN at -2.5 camber. At -3.5 camber, I have 1/4 inch (2/8th) toe-OUT. At -4.0 camber ... I would have a whopping 7/16th ... almost 1/2 inch of total toe-out.
Is that TOO MUCH toe-out to ever consider using in AX ... ? I'm hoping - 3.5 will be my "general" AX camber setting. How much toe-out would most of you consider desirable ?
When I set my camber plates for zero toe ... about -2.8+, my WRX, with Azenis tires, tends to wander ... especially on grooved Fwys. Seems like the car wants a bit of toe to have straight line stability.
Next ... calibrating my tie rods so I can adjust my toe ...
