View Full Version : Guaging Intrest : So Cal Tranny Fluid \ motor oil day
Dynamispeed 04-26-2004, 03:22 AM To all those looking\needing\wanting to change your tranny fluid:
I am trying to put together a day to get everyone together that needs to do this.
I have found a great tranny fluid: Torco synthetic racing RTF. I recently switched to Torco RTF in my car. The tranny feels great. It was ok before, but now its awesome.
The car is smoother when downshifting, I hear little to no syncro spool now, and I can get the car into first at 30 MPH. I'm not kidding, w proper rev matching it glides right in to 1st w\ normal effort as high as 30 MPH.
I would like to get as many people as I can on this. Time would be 15 mins or so, and we can set up appointments throught the day. We would take care of all spent fluids, clean the drain plug and fill the tranny back up. You can even sit in the car while we move the car up and down on the lift.
The price for the full tranny service would be $55-$60.
We can also include Torco Motor Oil changes as well. It's a full synthetic motor oil that does not break down. All you would need to do is change filters. The oil can be used as long as 10,000+ miles.
So who would be interested in such an event?
Regards,
Ashley

Got your PM. The shop I work out of is in Long beach. I do installations by appointment only on weekends and sometimes weekday evenings, as the shop serves another purpose M-F 8-5. A permanent facility is in the works.
Ashley
Glad to see there is intrest!!
HighSpeedRacerX 04-26-2004, 02:22 PM I had DynamiSpeed change the tranny fluid to Torco RTF too...while my trans wasn't bad at all, the RTF did show a noticeable improvement in shifting ease and noise reduction, and when coing to a stop, I can easily engage 1st gear on a 5-10 mph roll without any drama.
I also had then put in Torco SR-5 in the crankcase too...full synthetic not blended like Mobil 1! Dunno if its better, but I feel better.
James2000rt 04-26-2004, 03:31 PM ashley
still waiting on my install. Let me know whats going on
rossscarbro 04-27-2004, 12:30 AM Hmmmm.. I might be interested. I put Mobil 1 in about 7,000 miles ago or so. I don't really need it but I'm interested in seeing if this really works as you say.
How about a brake fluid day? Now that's something I need done!
rawrFERNY 04-27-2004, 12:38 AM i have just over 3000mi on the car, too early for the trans. fluid?
mlambert 04-27-2004, 01:00 AM Originally posted by rawrFERNY

depends on how your tranny feels
Ashleys car has the best tranny of any wrx ive ever driven (read more than most people) and he changed his fluid at 25k and said he noticed an improvement.
When I rode with him today he was able to downshift into first at 30mph with the torco, pretty impressive
Jelphree 04-27-2004, 01:14 AM What days are you doing this? I have roughly about 9K in my car. Do I need to change it soon?
I was going to buy the repair/service manuals to do it myself. Thing is at Renick, but its gonna cost $200+ for them and I don't have a free day to DL the pdf files from subaru tech web site.
Maybe its just a reason to look for parts and drive to your shop. BTW, where in SoCal???
TRinityMtrSprts 04-27-2004, 01:37 AM man, i'm deffinately in need of this..... my only problem is time.... i dunno when i'd be able to get down to LBC and get it done
do ya'll make friday appointments?
Schlad 04-27-2004, 02:09 AM I'm in depending on the day...got a busy month of May coming up...
teiva-boy 04-27-2004, 03:28 AM I had redline, royal purple, and Torco in my car. All had their benefits, but after so many miles problems would arise with shifting into first at a stop. Only going back to dino oil did it help.
I think I may have mentioned Torco in the tranny forum if you do a search for Torco.
It's good stuff, but just don't assume it will fix all your woes, or that your tranny will be in tip top shape.
TastyTurbo 04-27-2004, 05:46 AM I'm in Fo' Sho'!
Can I get my differential fluid changed as well?
When is this gonna happen?
TT

Yes, this will probably be an option as well.
James2000rt 04-27-2004, 11:12 AM sorry to threadjack. But ashley still waiting for a response. Have sent several PMs. Would like to get parts installed still waiting for a response.

Did you use the Torco RTF or MTF? If you used the standard MTF I believe it is rated about GL-4 viscocity. RTF is about a GL-6.
Lemon Herb 04-27-2004, 11:56 AM What about the rear diff as well?
Also how does RTF compare to Neo Synthetic, I have heard awsome stuff about that product and was planning to use it in a few thousand miles when I had plan to do the change.
cdclark 04-27-2004, 11:58 AM I'd be interested as well. The sooner the better!

Have used both. I was testing Torco Products for a vendor that gave me the whole line at his distributor cost.
I like their motor oils, and bike products. But don't think the transmission fluid is all that great. Or at least not what it's being hyped up to be.
Lever2ooo 04-27-2004, 02:15 PM I have 8k on my 04 wRX ( do i need my oil changed yet)?

HighSpeedRacerX 04-27-2004, 08:26 PM Just a followup...drove the RTF in heavy rush hour traffic...Long Beach to Pasadena and back at 5 pm...really felt good, especially when I had to down shift into first 25,000 times (slight exaggeration). I hope it continues to work!
scrappy doo 04-27-2004, 08:45 PM hey ashley i'm down as well!:disco: set up a day, man!
Porsche914boxer4 04-27-2004, 08:59 PM Set it up. How about the weekend after RIM?
I will be in for Tranny and Diff Fluid. Brakes too, if you want to do that....
Dynamispeed 04-28-2004, 12:37 AM I'll be setting up the date in the next few days. Obviously I'd like to get as many in as possible. Basically we will take orders for what you want done (engine oil, tranny, rear end etc,) and I will have the product on hand accordingly.
We are offering the RTF GL-6 tranny fluid. It is a fully synthetic racing tranny fluid.
The motor oil we are offering will be either the full synthetic, or the semi synthetic blend.
Regards,
Ashley
Please stay tuned for the Dynamispeed Bushing Day.

Lemon Herb 04-28-2004, 11:07 AM I am pretty interested, especially in the bushing day. ill keep watching.
cdclark 04-28-2004, 11:58 AM Yeah lets nail down a date ASAP. I need to change my engine oil this week or next, and would rather go with this than a regular dealer change job.
BTW, will the filter i have laying around from my 01 RS (EJ25) work on a 02 WRX? I still have a couple leftover new OEM filters in the garage, along with the washers...
rossscarbro 04-28-2004, 01:13 PM Please tell me the bushing day will include steering rack busings.... if so, I'm all over that!:D
|Thrax| 04-28-2004, 01:46 PM Ashley, can you post the exact fluid you are using to diff/tranny/ etc, I would like to take notes on what I plan to put in my car later.

tranny fluid - Torco RTF GL-6 rating 100% synthetic
Motor oil option one - Torco SR-5 100% synthetic
Motor oil option two - Torco SR-1 synthetic blend (mobil 1 equivilent)
The SR-5 is the better oil, It is about double the price of Mobil 1 but you can use it twice as long, just change the filter and top it off. We will give you an extra liter for this purpose (6 total)
The SR-1 is about the same price as Mobil 1 and is equivilent in grade and longevity.
Ashley
|Thrax| 04-28-2004, 01:59 PM Oh yea.. what about diff oil, is there one that is better then the other?
Thanks! :)
I was also wondering if you shipped my gpmoto silencer out already.

I havent done the diff oil yet. Im going to find out what will work best for our limited slip units in the WRX\STI. They have synthetic gear oil and limited slip additives available.
Dynamispeed 04-28-2004, 05:42 PM Well there seems to be enough intrest....

Hey Ashley.
I'll do motor oil option 1. (5w 50 preffered). Crush gasket and filter.
And the tranny.
Does Torco have an engine flush that they'd recommend?
I've got 61k and would like to get some of that gunk out.
Thevaliantknite 05-05-2004, 05:17 PM Ill take what ever is best. . . so i guess that RTF GL-6 tanny fluid and some fully synthetic.

Porsche914boxer4 05-12-2004, 01:38 PM ashley, you said you guys could help bleed my brakes while I get the tranny/diff oil changed, is this still the case?
what time should I be there?
what will the total be for:
tranny oil change (need fluid)
Diff oil change (need fluid)
brake bleed (bringing my own motul)?
Thanks,
Eli
Dynamispeed 05-12-2004, 04:58 PM Ok guys. The pricing is-
$60 for tranny GL6
$20 for rear Diff full synthetic 75W 90 w\ limited slip additive.
Eli- we will bleed your brakes, just buy us lunch (Ron and I) At the burger place next door ~$5 bucks each
We also tried the GL-6 RTF in a 2002 car w\ a not so good tranny, and improvements were felt. The owner reported slicker, easier shifting and the MPH that he was able to get into first was increased.
It will take a few miles for the new fluid to wash away the old stuff left in the gearbox.

Makoto 05-14-2004, 01:09 PM I apologize for the late notice, but I will not be able to make it tomorrow to get my tranny oil changed. I'll be in contact to get this done at another time.
cdclark 05-14-2004, 02:06 PM Ashley,
Let me know if you got my PMs from the last couple days, I need to reschedule as well and I haven't seen a response.
-Cameron
Dynamispeed 05-15-2004, 04:53 AM no problem Cameron. Ill give your spot away and get more fluid so we can do yours at a later date.
cdclark 05-15-2004, 12:28 PM Thanks, Let me know when works for you. Weekday evenings would be best at this point, my weekends are shot until September.
Lemon Herb 05-16-2004, 01:54 AM I have to say this actually made a differnce, and if you disagree then blah. My buttdyno is infallible, but here is my simple review for non believers. The better oil allows the syncros to move more freely making shifting noticeably smoother and improves downshifting greatly. The most noticeable change is in lower gears and especially when getting down into first while still moving.
If this ever happens again I would recomend not missing it.
Dynamispeed 05-16-2004, 06:00 AM we have 5 gallons left of trannt fluid. we will be offering another one of these. Please those who participated today offer your comments :)

HeyChris 05-16-2004, 05:36 PM I'm famous... That's MY FOOT in your new promo photo... :D
Ashley, the Torco fluids is such a dramatic change from my Valvoline Syn... Gear changes are much smoother, and I swear I gained back some of the drivetrain loss from the older fluids I had.
Chris.
btw, the 'leftover' fluids burnt off by the time I got home via the fwy...:p [pouring one out for the homies who couldn't make it.]

If you are interested PM me.
Dynamispeed 08-18-2004, 08:04 PM Hi, everyone! Sorry for my absence. It was only supposed to be for a week or two, but personal problems turned it into 2 months. We have another drum of tranny fluid still to use up. from the first day. We can get cases of the motor oil as well. Post here if you are interested!
I have heard nothing but good things from the participants of the last tranny day. Everyone was satisfied with their fluids :)

still wanting to change my fluids...
HeyChris 12-01-2004, 12:18 AM So,
This thread is 3 pages long..... By the time I post this item all of the above people could have already changed their own fluids by now.... OR taken it to Rally Sport Engineering in Costa Mesa or Suby Specialties or the dealer....
Chris.

Chris.
But I (i'm sure others also) would rather take it to someone who will FOR SURE do a good job on it... :)
cdclark 12-01-2004, 07:39 PM I'm still up for having it changed too!
Hell, I drive up to 1500 miles a week, its ALWAYS time to change something.
zumnwrx 12-04-2004, 01:16 PM i think maybe this fluid ended up not being all it was cracking up to be at first... with time all these fluids that start off great seem to start syncro grinding later on.
maybe some of you that had the tranny fluid done befor can give us an update... does your cars still downshift like a honda tranny into first?
edgar, :)

This is what I was thinking as well. I'm still debating what trans/diff fluid to use.
HeyChris 12-04-2004, 08:25 PM I actually did the original tranny fluid day and I'm ready to change it....
As I change my fluids once a year.... Just to keep the car, and my 'mind' happy.
C.
Onederer 12-05-2004, 04:32 AM man...i changed everything like many moons ago. screw monkeytronZ by the way. commie bastard.
how often are you suppose to change the tranny fluid?
Onederer 12-05-2004, 04:37 AM around 30k is adecent rule of thumb. but if you do alot of high speed runs at the track or alot of running in the higher rev ranges on say a canyon road...maybe a little sooner. me...i do it once a year. just because. kinda like bathing.
zumnwrx 12-05-2004, 01:22 PM but what about the gear oil? did it continue to be as good as the first day? what did it hold up like?
edgar, :)
