View Full Version : Kartboy Shifter: Need HELP!!!!!! burr101 05-08-2000, 09:56 AM Am i stupid or am i doing something wrong, i CAN NOT get the ball of the short throw into the hole. I knocked my rearview mirror off i was trying so hard. what am i doing wrong???? I need to drive my car please help me!! 8Complex 05-08-2000, 10:50 AM Ok, put it in place and put the bolt through the fork and shifter with the nut, just not too tight. Take a small piece of 2x4 lumber (or another piece of wood) and place it over the top of the shifter where the threads are. Make sure the ball at the bottom is where it should be, ready to go in. Now take a heavy hammer (it took me two hammers next to each other, but an 4-8lb. hammer should work if you have one). Now carefully but firmly give it a good whack. It takes some trying, but it will go in eventually. You may need to add more grease before you put it in, just to make sure it's operation is smooth and you won't have any binding at all. bluesaint 05-08-2000, 11:06 AM take a screwdriver and stick it in the hole and hold both side of the screwdriver and push down with ur weight.. dats how i got it in. Peaty 05-08-2000, 11:31 AM I've done two shifters and the way I did it was to use a heavy plastic dead hammer. The first one took one good shot the other took about 3. Give it a good shot and it should pop in. 8Complex 05-08-2000, 03:59 PM BTW, it'll be tight for a while but it loosens up a bit... well either that or I got really used to it. I haven't touched a stock shifter since then. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smile.gif burr101 05-08-2000, 10:00 PM it does seem kind of stiff, but i thought it was because i lost leverage when putting it gear. I like the new location of the shifter because it closer but a couple times coundn't find the gear i wanted right away. I still have bushings to put in, but i'm gonna get used to the shifter a little before i get into that. Thanks Again shaun burr101 05-09-2000, 01:33 AM thanks for all the replies, i got the damn thing in there. That will teach me to go into something w/out any directions at all. I ended up using the hammer/wood method 5th shot it went in. Was thinking about doing that at first but was afraid i would bend the 1/2" pole it was welded on to. Thanks a million guys. It takes a little getting used to it but i think i like it. Shaun bluesube 05-09-2000, 02:15 PM a sledgehammer just dropped on the 2x4 worked for me first time. Go ahead and put the bushings in now- you'll have to get used to the new feel again. I went 2 days without them, then put them in- much better afterward. -leo |
