Ok.

I'm about to order my gauges for the gauge pod. I'm going the 2 1/16" Autometer phantom gauges. I've decided to go with 3 of the most basic gauges......voltmeter, oil pressure, and vacuum.

My concerns are these..

1. The oil pressure gauge is 0-100psi, includes 1/8 inch electric sender and 1/4 inch NPT fitting. What is this NPT fitting and how does it connect to my Subaru? I won't have to drill into my oil pan will I?

2. The boost/vacuum gauge 30psi/30inch-Hg, includes 6 feet of nylon tubing, 1/8 inch and 1/4 inch NPT fittings. Where will I make these connections? Again, any drilling into the intake or anywhere else?

3. The voltage gauge. I think I can handle that one.

Carparts.com part #'s are as follows 5727 (oil pressure), 5703 (boost/vacuum), 5791 (voltmeter).

Please only respond if you know what you are talking about http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/tongue.gif. Especially those who have done this gauge pod install themselves. Thanks for the help. (I hope)

For the oil press. gauge, I used the oil idiot light sender that is under the alternator of our cars. Andy from Rallispec posted directions of how to do this, you can do a search on the tech forum. You will need to re-tap the coupling 1/4-28, put a copper tubing tee, and attach the Phantom coupling on one side and the idiot light sender on the other. Voltmeter-on the cigarrette lighter. Vacuum- I don't installed that one, instead I put an A/F meter. PM me if you need any other info.

tmat, Thank you very much for the link. I've printed it out as a reference. If I have any more questions, I'll be sure to ask. Thanks again.

So no one knows about the vacuum? Where is this connection made? Thanks.

Aspen,
The connection is made a little bit behind the alternator, I think I took a picture of it in my car, and I will try and send a picture if you want. I had to buy more tubing to make it all the way there comfortably, but I routed it the long way to make it look good. I got the extra tubing at Schucks, they had it there for like 4 bucks, and an extender fitting for like 2 bucks. E-mail me and remind me to scan that picture in for you if you need a visual. Well good luck, and be sure and get a good ground on that oil pressure sending unit.

Later....Kris
