How loud is the JC Sports exhaust? I prefer to keep things on a quiet note (be seen but not heard) I'm also assuming it will fit my 2.2L Impreza.

Speaking of which, does anyone know anything about the "performance muffler" offered by Subaru dealers? The parts guy at the dealership here say its designed only for the 2.5RS. If neither of these fit, is there another stainless exhaust that will (again, nothing too loud)?

They will fit. I have the dual tip strohmung on my 97 2.2L. The wife didn't notice a difference before and after the exhaust change if that helps yoru decision (it is deeper in tone and more growly).

Thumbs Up to the Dual tip Stomung.

Running it for about 5K miles on a 97 OBS 2.2.

Not too loud.I ran a Naxxos DTM which was obnoxious.

The Stomung has a lucious gurgle on the down shifts and rips at WOT.

The subaru performance muffler is made by Brospeed, and only inceases noise, not power, per the suby dealer shop foreman.

The JC Sport was tested by Sport Compact Car magazine March 2000 and they felt the 2.5" tubing was too large for a non turbo and lost low end power on the dyno.

The Stromung exhaust gave the best gains, but that was on a 2.5L and your 2.2L may not like the 2.25" tubing, being too big for a small engine. They only tested the muffler, and didn't upgrade the midpipe to a larger one, and still got 5% power increase at the wheels.

My Stromung will be here in 1 week...

I've heard two or three different JC cat-backs and they were all quite loud. Not to mention the fact that you probably will have trouble getting one( from those guys anyway).

The RalliSpec Apex-i RS( the muffler, not the car) cat-back has been getting fantastic reviews from some of the fellas that have that system.

If it snows are your place don't get the Stromung. IMHO I think the Stromung is too much for the money. Get a Borla instead. Much lighter and produces about the same hp. Sounds amazing. Very deep boxer tone. The trick is to change to 2.25" midpipe and the resonator. It will be louder tho. But that combo will give more noticeable improvements at top end. Changing the muffler will no yield u anything. 2.25" pipe is optimum for cars with 2.0 - 2.5l engines.
