CFD simulations

Anything from a simple 2 dimensional wing profile to a full 3 dimensional car with rotating wheels, moving ground, heat transfer from the engine and secondary fluid streams and heat transfer for the coolant, AC and charge air. Can also simulate conjugate heat transfer from fluid streams through solids as in engine cooling.

15 years of experience with various CFD software including commercial and NASA codes and 10 years of that was spent in top level racing (CART and F1). Masters in Computational Fluid Dynamics and a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering.

I also have access to two rolling road wind tunnels (40-50% scale model) with complete model fabricating facilities.

I'm a second year aerospace engineer at GA Tech and am looking for fun places to co-op next spring or summer.

It's not cheap, but it's much cheaper than wind tunnel testing. Typically I model the entire car if I do a wing design study, so it's a 3-4 week project. At $125/hr. it's a little beyond most budgets at $15-$20K for a wing design study but when the price of a race car wing is well over $5K it's nice to get it right the first time.

That would be the price for a CFD study of a wing. If you just want a fairly decent design with no analysis it's much cheaper. I can make them in carbon as well, but one-offs are fairly expensive due to the cost of the molds.

Sorry, it's just me here so I can't really do any co-op programs or anything. It's pretty hard to find co-op work with race teams or anything somewhat interesting car wise. I did my Masters in the UK and it's much easier to find someone there. I did my thesis with Team Lotus.

Thanks. I've got some CFD work to do ... mostly header collector designs. Internal flows are a lot easier to do than external flows, so it's not that bad. Some of the physics are hell though ... hot gases and near transonic flow.

This sounds really cool, but I get this impression that its a tad out of most of our budgets...If I did have an extra $20,000 lying around...nope I'd blow it all on my engine :)

It is very interesting however, I thought about studying this type of thing at one point, Good Luck as GTScoop said
