They are just the seat covers as if you were to buy replacement seat covers from the subaru parts department. The front seats come standard with leather seating surface and the rears come with leather inserts which can be upgraded to have almost full leather seating surface.
These are leather covers only, not actual seats and will require installation. You will need to replace your factory cloth or leather with these covers and they install exactly the same. We offer an installation kit which consists of tools and parts that you would not ordinarily have (hog rings, hog ring pliers and spray upholstery adhesive) and we also offer an install video to get you headed in the right direction. The color of the seats in the pic is Dark Graphite which is the factory match to the interior.

Rollo` 05-05-2004, 08:05 PM James already answered, but I wanted something subtle and factory looking so I just got the solid dark graphite with matching flat inserts and stitching.
It really matches the interior exactly. James also sent me the inserts for the doors but I just don't have the courage to try those yet.
I am very pleased with the results. If you have any questions James is the man. He has actually done the installs and knows everything about the color choices and matching colors and materials...

but, in GENERAL
great seats and great quality
they were worth having for the seven odd years
and anyway its about time to replace 'em.
Rollo` 05-06-2004, 09:29 PM Yes I did to it myself. James sent me an email with a write up including pictures for a WRX and that helped a lot. I would not say it was easy, but it is not extremely difficult, just somewhat time consuming.
I can't imagine these things wearing out. One of the things you have to do during the installation is punch holes for a couple of bolts and for the headrests. This stuff is really really tough--very thick.
The seats look better over time. Mine looked pretty good right after installation because I was very meticulous, however, they looked even better after about a week.

All Katzkin leather kits come with a 3 year warranty against manufacturer defect and wear. Call their retail number at (866)757-3287 and maybe they'll help you out. If the kit was purchased thru my company I can warranty it thru my business. Good luck.

They will continue to acclamate to your seat foam over about a month. The hot sunny days really help this process and usually cut it down to about 2 weeks break-in. Part of the reason why they have to break-in is because they were stuffed in a box for a 2 or 3 weeks so they get alittle wrinkled.

SC WRX 05-10-2004, 05:32 PM Is Katzkin going to create a kit for the '05 Legacy? Even though leather is an OEM option for the Ltd. package, I figure a lot of people are going to balk since the price is going to be an additional $2600. Regular GT owners will be interested in aftermarket leather.

The kit will be available soon after the production of the vehicle begins. Remember in order to pattern the seat they actually need the original seats to do so accurately. I wasn't aware of the new '05 coming out...thats a very early realease, but at any rate I would be happy to sell these kits on this same thread with the same pricing structure.

Our cost for just the leather install which includes the front seats, back seats and door panel inserts is $450. Talk to some of the other guys on the board and ask them how long it took to install the whole kit and keep in mind when you have a professional shop do it typically they'll stand behind their workmanship, but even more important the job is done in about 3 hours flat.
How you ask...well take at least 4 professional installers and 1 door panel guy and have them attack your car and its done that fast and its perfect. So your paying per man/per hour which adds up to $450 w/o breaking a sweat. Its also very convenient when you think about the time your gonna spend installing it. Although I know that its personally gratifying to complete a project like this so some guys prefer to D-I-Y rather then pay a shop to do it.
With that said I think anyone who can turn a screwdriver can do this install...its not hard, it just takes several hours doing by yourself depending on your personal skill. The cost for install is definitely justified and some shops charge a lot more.

The only reason the leather may look a little bit not to your liking is because the pic was taken immediately after the install and thats when the leather looks its worst. Usually about 2 weeks after the install the leather skins will fully acclamate to the seat foam and really take shape and smooth out nicely and they just keep looking better everyday there after....its the nature of the beast. I really wish I could show you a picture of a kit a month or 2 after install and you would see a complete difference. Ask the guys in the forum...they'll tell ya. The heated seats require seperate install which is done before the leather covers are installed. They come with instructions, but I'll tell its really basic 12V wiring (power and ground with an in-line fuse.) The bulk of the seat heater install is plug-n-play. You really just need to locate a good 12V source in the car. We typically use the ignition wire so they only turn on when the key is on and can't accidentally be left on all day or night.
Hope that answers the question.

That sounds easy enough. Although I am definately not a wiring genius. Do you have any instructions specific to a wrx that could help me out with this install so I don't fry the electrical system?
Also the picture of the 02-03 that you posted in blue. Are those gathered inserts? I didn't see the price for that?
Again thanks for all the info James. When I order is it best to call or do it on your website?

I'm trying desperately to get in on this, but I would really like to get some input on suede colors... I'd like to do the factory match leather with some sort of dark grey suede inserts - some contrast against the leather but not much. Can you think of anything that would look good (ideally with some pictures)??

I know the picture is not a WRX (its a 350Z), but the colors are what you described and they are factory match for the WRX. So basically your looking at Black leather with Dark slate suede which would look great in the WRX interior as well as the light slate suede which is pictured below in a toyota matrix.

Any chance on a shade darker than the dark slate grey? That's a little more contrast than I'd like. Or is there even a suede "match" for the dark graphite leather? I know, I'm being picky... the dark slate on that Z looks REALLY good... on the WRX application does the suede extend up the headrests like the colored centers? I think that might look a little strange... I like the way the Z pictured looks with the plain leather headrests.

I almost forgot the newer colors of suede that are available. Onyx may be the color for you as it it is black suede and Dark Graphite is more or less black when you look at the 2 swatches side-by-side. Alone a dark graphite swatch would look black to most people.

Just wanted to let you guys know that I got my seats installed by ATD at their shop in Connecticut this morning. They had me out of there in 2.5 hours. James couldn't have been any more helpful over the phone or in setting me up for an appointment, and the guys at the shop were great considering I was in from out of town and waited while they did it. I got the black/pacific blue combo with seat heaters in both front seats as well as blue door panel inserts. I also got "WRX" stitched in black on the black leather which is a really nice subdued look. The leather is beautiful and the colors are a great match with my '03 WRB wagon. I'll post my pictures as soon as I can (this weekend probably), because my scheme is a bit different from the other pics in this thread. I can't give a better recommendation for James and ATD.-----------ZZ

doubleurx 07-16-2004, 03:59 PM I just did the install myself. It definately took me longer than 2.5 hours. I think I have about 8 into it and I still need to do the door panels. It came out great thought. THe directions were very easy to follow.
I'll post pics when done. I installed the pacific blue / black combo with perforated centers, blue stitching and heated seats.
When you get a chance James, I left you a message regarding the wire tap for the seats.
Thanks James

D_Block 07-19-2004, 06:56 PM Just installed my leather kit this weekend. Was time consuming but came out great. The only real PITA was the rear seat armrest, the screws DID NOT want to come out! Got the Dark graphite with lt slate suede inserts. Even did the rear deck lid in leather. This weekend I will finish up by covering the door panels and maybe the visors in suede. I will post pics ASAP. Highly reccomend this kit for the price at ATD! Shopped around and this is the best price you will see. Also, save the 500 dollars for installation and do it yourself. Just take your time and be patient and it turns out great! Thanks ATD for a great product and FAST service

Out of curiosity, how long does it usually take from order to shipment on a full set of something like the person above mentioned - standard leather w/ suede inserts or centers?

By the way, it made a huge difference in how the seat feels. The side bolsters are much more supportive.

Hey Steve,
The kit will definitely fit the 2005 with or without heat. As for the price...its right. Check out the pic below...its the only black with red stitching I have. Its hard to see the red stitch, but its there...more obvious in person. James...ATD Online
DieselClown 08-25-2004, 10:22 PM ill take it, but is the dark graphite almost black in color and will there be problems with it turnuing "red" or purple over time? If so, then ill just skip the suede but if not, ill take a kit in black/dark graphite suede with regular black stitching instead delivered to zip code 11369. Also, do you foresee any problems with the heated seats with the suede application, or even any installation problems with them.

Just for reference, I received my seats yesterday, in Dark Graphite Leather with Dark Slate suede combo inserts... they don't look like that picture. To me, the dark slate is BARELY a shade lighter than the dark graphite leather. This is exactly what I wanted, they look great, but I had to see a pic from an "other" vendor's group buy thread to make that decision. I'll snap a couple shots of my seat covers, I'm thinking maybe the contrast is less because I'm using dark graphite instead of black. It looks really good but MUCH MUCH less contrast than in the above pic.

Contrast could also be due to the camera eye and as you know suede looks darker or lighter depending on the way its brushed.
Dieselclown....call me whenever you're ready to order and we'll get it going. as for installing with the heat you'll have no problem as we have done these as well. My phone service is currently down but you can always contact me thruy the forum or my email at atd1@atd1.com.

OK, here's a couple of snaps of one of the seat covers at least SET in the right place. These are Dark Graphite with Dark Slate suede COMBO inserts. As everyone says, the Dark Graphite leather is a great match for the factory interior, and to me at least the dark slate suede makes a nice additional touch without being too loud. My car is pretty low-key anyway.
If anyone wants larger pics I'll email them, just let me know.

DieselClown 10-09-2004, 01:11 AM AWESOME INSTALL!! CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THE REST!!!
James...ATD Onlinethanks! im actually getting scared to do the door panels, the last one I did on my old car was a total nightmare, with glue all over, and without the tucking tool, i had places where there was too much vinyl sticking out and some where there wasn't enough so it kept popping out. Any hints on getting this done before I go ahead and attempt it, or should i just let a pro take care of it. Thanks again for an AMAZING kit! The quality is seriously very very good and I've examined it from head to toe! Also, thanks for the attentive customer service and timely responses! Nasioc needs more vendors like James! :)

DieselClown 10-09-2004, 08:06 PM here are some pics of only the front passenger seat as I didnt have enough time or daylight to work on the driver seat. James, you have to check with Katzkin because they messed up big time on the front seat covers. On the back side of the stock seats, they zipper halfway down to allow you to remove or apply hogrings onto the covers and seat, but in the leather kit, there's no zipper so it fits like a sock over the seat and since it uses the stock metal bars to straighten the creases in the seat, you can't install the hogrings on until the entire seat is covered therefore I spent nearly 2 hours with both my big arms in the seat clamping down on each hogring onto the metal bar and the bar on the seat itself. Anyway, it worked out and I couldnt be happier but I now have about 8 more hand blisters to add to my collection.
here are a few pics of the finished product. Again because of the flash, it appears light, but the suede is much darker in person.

Actually the kit is designed to meet the specs of the leather cover. They may have also done it that way in order for the seat to look nicer on the back w/o having zippers. In any case we do these cars day in and day out and once you get used to the method of install its no biggie. Anyway it seems that your hard work paid off becaus the kit looks awesome....GREAT JOB!

D_Block 10-26-2004, 10:02 PM Hmmm...I think the zippers were a problem with some of the kits..mine had a problem with the zippers (which I remedied on my own, James did offer to replace but they came out fine) Im not the only one who has had zipper problems with the kits, so maybe thats a remedy. I ended up hogringing them anyways! Oh, Bump for a great vendor and a great kit!!!!

Actually your car is a different seat all together since its a 2002. This seat cover is for the '04 but I see what you're getting at. In any case the pattern remains the same for the older model WRX's and it still has zippers. We really never had any problems with them...I guess they just need to be finesed.

I ended up selling my car and bought an STI. On a previous post, you mentioned that you can get the kit for the STI from a different supplier. Do you have any photos and who supplies the kit if it is not Katzkin?
Also, does it have all the same options available?
Thanks,
Nick
MU5A5HI 11-05-2004, 01:06 PM Did you ever state what the non-sale price was? My finances are tanked for the next several months. (STi Gauge cluster and new Wheels) I'm guessing your normal price is probably pretty reasonable anyhow.

This "sale" has been running for a few months now. I think as long as he can continue to get the pricing from Katzkin he will offer the pricing to us. Its an awesome deal. I wish I was confident to do the install because I would jump all over this.
MU5A5HI 11-07-2004, 10:45 AM yea. I think those covers are gorgeous, but I'm very concerned about my install abilities. even more so since I just messed up the gauge clearing (even tho everyone warned me it was near impossible)
It would suck to spend 600-700 on leather only to mess it up. I have a friend whose parents live in Connecticut. Im tempted to save up more and just visit ATD for install sometime next year.

GuessWho 11-29-2004, 04:41 PM James... any ideas on a 2005 kit? I believe the seats are the same as on the STI so I don't think that it would be a problem, but you'd know more than me. Do you do any work with alcantara instead of real suede?
ATD1.COM 11-29-2004, 06:41 PM James... any ideas on a 2005 kit? I believe the seats are the same as on the STI so I don't think that it would be a problem, but you'd know more than me. Do you do any work with alcantara instead of real suede?
Actually what my manufacturer refers to as suede is Alcantara which is synthetic suede. If it was real suede then anyone who got it on their kit would kill me because of the incredible amounts of maintenence and it wouldn't hold up in a car being used daily. As for the seats I try not to give my 2 cents in order to avoid a conflict when your kit arrives and you don't like what I recommended...make sense. Anyway I can tell you to start with the factory match which is black and build from there with an accent color or something. Remember 1 day you will sell this car and when you do the general public may not like what you did to the interior so subtle is always good. Hope that helps.
James...ATD Online
GuessWho 11-30-2004, 10:04 AM Yes, I'd like a subtle black leather interior with possibly a dark synthetic suede or perf leather door insert. To clarify, you haven't yet verified that your kit works with 05 WRX, correct? Any time frame on when you are looking to do this?
James, here's a question for you... would you sell me just a set of heater kits?
Also, how long do you think it'd take me to just install the heaters, including taking off the factory seat covers, and putting them back on, assuming a "normal" work rate?
Also, just out of morbid curiosity, how much longer do you think it'd take to add heaters to the REAR seats, if that's possible?
DieselClown 12-03-2004, 12:55 AM go to page 3 of this thread and you will see the kit on my 05 wrx - PERFECT FIT. Actually, I have black leather with black suede inserts so it might be what you're looking for. KEEP IN MIND when you look at the pics that the suede is a LOT darker in person. The flash made the suede look almost gray which it isnt. Anyway check out my cardomain page here for more pics. James is the man and I have to tell you from personal experience that ATD1 is just amazing!

The seat heaters can be fitted to work in the back seats but you'll need extra wire and will have to be creative on the switch location. If you have factory heat up front the massage system will interfere with the factory system so you'll have to choose or only do the massage where you can fit the massage units.

Yeah the carpet is a little different then the factory carpet but its carpet none the less and not vinyl which would be bad. Of course SOA is not manufacturing these seats so the carpet material will be somewhat different. If it really bothers you, you can always cut the carpet off the old covers and sew it back on to the new covers. We actually used to do that before they started putting carpet on the seat backs....it comes out really good if you know someone who can sew.

Our kits are only available with either suede inserts, centers or combo inserts...not the whole cover. The stuff just doesn't have the support. As far as doing the headliner we sell extra suede by the square yard and it $85. Figure at least 1 yard for the headliner and 1 for the pillars...that would be a good starting point.

If you're just looking for black w/grey for an '05 you'd be at $570 shipped unless I am missing some options that you wanted.

bbaker80 03-15-2005, 08:17 PM What about saftey with the side airbags in the 05's? Do these covers open up like the factory ones in an accident? I know there's a sticker in the door jamb that talks about not installing any seatcover because of the SRS system. Also, about how much material would I need to cover the headliner of a wagon?

These seat covers are fully compliant with SRS safety standards and will open just like the factory seat covers. Well just take a tape measure and measure the width and length in feet and multiply those numbers and let me know what the square footage is. The minimum sold is 1sqyd. which would probably cover but I'm not too sure about the length.

Would it be possible to buy just the blue suede door panels for a 2005 WRX?
If so, how much would it cost for all 4 doors (front and rear)?
Thanks in advance,
-Paul (your friendly neighborhood douche bag)

Well you'd just have to buy 1yd of suede which is $85. That will easily cover all 4 doors.
