Lorax 06-15-2004, 12:09 AM I cannot, for the life of me, find the gasoline switch. I've been searching for like an hour now. I have one of those 49cc cat eye ones.
Check out the part I am referring to:

I have the Cat Eye one not the X1 bike...
The speedo meter on the bike is WAY off guys!!! thing is pinned @ 52mph but i got clocked using one of those posted radars... there was one close to my house so i busted the bikes out to see what it would do...
52 on the lie of meter shows 43 tops thats with my bro who is 172lbs.
with me on it and a huge head start i will top out at 41mph...
so the meter is off... i think it measures the revolutions of the clutch and not the actual bike...
My cousin who sells these pocket bikes brought a bone stock one.. one reads 28mph on the meter the other was hitting 30 on the meter both ran 22 and 26 respectively so bone stock they are SLOW!!! modified they are not SlOW but slightly less slower:lol:
either way... we should get together and i will bust out both of my bad boys lets go riding :)
when is the next meet i will have the read one up and running and the blue one will have the modified motor and all of the bolt on mods
BTW i have a Sendec Tach hooked up so i am monitoring the engine RPM speed in real time via the spark signal... the bikes will rev up to 6K with me on it and 8K with a lighter person on it. Curious to see what a stock motor will do...
some one else get a Sendec Tach and lets compare the results..

that is for the 47cc pocket bikes buddy... :)
this is what you should be looking for....
high speed and low speed adjustment. low speed will affect your idle, startup, and take off. the highs peed on this carb sucks... if you unscrew it too much it floods out if you hit it just right you will get a decent response but the needle adjustment sucks... it's not like a true Walbro weedeater carb which has real find adjustments. You have to do 1/4 adjustments to notice any change... a true carb will only take 1/8 of a turn to adjust any thing...
I would spend more time on the bottom end than the high because if you crank too much on the high speed end you will have a hard time adjusting. also do all adjustments with the faring removed makes life easy... when you finished your final adjustments then you put the thing back together.

Sigma Pi (Co-Driver) 06-15-2004, 02:16 AM for those who want to have the motor tuned i will start offering this service... but you won't buy blind... i will have a test mule if you like the results then i can replicate it. if you don't well then you don't have to buy :)
this way you know and have a tasted of what you are getting.
Price is TBA because i need to secure time at the machine shop as i am going to pay a friend to use his tools and he will be charging me by the hour.
So if i knock out 5 bikes at one go it would be worth while...
HeyChris 06-15-2004, 02:55 AM Newz Flash... Per the CHP today they issued an advisory stating these things are illegal to ride on the streets. Not even the bicycle lanes... Sidewalk only excursions allowed?
There's a pair in the neighborhood, and each time I see them ride by I wanna pull out the trusty pellet gun and take a couple of shots....

Pocket bike for sale :D
hutiu_kho 06-15-2004, 05:38 AM i've attached a tach to my yellow X1 and i was able to push it to 11450 (Trying to get it to the sweet spot of 12000 rpm). Well hope you could make it to my next meet. I want to see your cat-eye bike in action against my x1. Hopefully my HP carb will arrived by then. :)
Regarding CHP bs....going to dmv tomorrow to purchase a vehicle code book. Unless they rewrite the codes in there, these bikes should be perfectly legal to use on the streets same as the scooters are. I've been stopped by cops before. They know as much as we know about the rules regulating these bikes. Stay educated on the subject guys and learn your codes. I ride around with a printout of the california vehicle code stating that anything under 50cc does not require a permit, does not require registration. However it has to have lights, turn signals, etc. And always where your helmet.
Mr. Fancypants 06-15-2004, 10:44 AM Yep, just saw the news today and they were showing the "cat eyes" pocket bike with an officer riding it... looked kinda funny.
They said these are now illegal on public streets and you will be fined, and could have your bike confiscated.

They are illegal but I cannot find a specific law for it. They mentioned something about not having a headlight etc tho, in which they describe as illegal. And looks like they are talking about the 47cc. We'll see what happens in the next few days...

maybe its time for them to build a raceway like when they opened the Irwindale for public :D
"If it makes you smile, usually they make a law about it," said Fred McClelland, a motorcycle mechanic at Dave's Auto Body near Detroit Avenue in Concord. :D

OMG, crappy manual. Now I know I am not blind. Alright, well basically I am trying to get the gasoline to flow through the clear tube (fuel line) so I can start the engine. So in order to do this, I would adjust the low speed adjustment, correct?
I was also told to push the bubble on the bottom of the carb to prime it, and that will get me started.
Also, I am a total newbie with these bikes, so i'm not even sure what the fairing is. I am guessing it's the body, so removing it would be easier to work on the bike?
I really appreciate you helping me out :)

Clear tube is the fuel return line you will get air pockets on that line depending if your burning all of the gas from the carb or not. the black like is the feed line.
your bike will start with an empty clear line there is also a primer bulb which you can push 5 times to get the motor primed for starting, OR you can simply flip the choke and crank the bike it will do the same as pushin the rubber bulb.
fairing= body:banana:
To every one else...
these are the possible citations that we will be sighted for if we get pulled over.
Drive a "pocket bike" on the road and you will be stopped and may be cited for several violations, including an unsafe vehicle (24002 California Vehicle Code). The officer may also tow the bike under section 22651(O) California Vehicle Code, as an unregistered vehicle, or 22561(P) vehicle code, if you are not properly licensed.

What CVC code is this? I'd like to find this on the official dmv website and print it out too.
I don't know if it will still be valid, because the actions authorities are taking to keep these pocket bikes off the street is more recent than the CVC codes in their literature, and probably their website.
But there's still a good chance that the printout could keep a cop off my back. ;)
WR xplosive 06-15-2004, 06:49 PM You may have a print-out stating about the 50cc etc but how can you fight this:

However, "pocket bikes" do not meet federal safety standards and do not have proper vehicle identification numbers. Because they do not conform to these standards, they cannot ever be licensed and must be used only on private property or closed courses. They can never be used on the street or sidewalk.

Have authorities already made official laws for "pocket bikes", or are they following the laws for motorized scooters? Pocket bikes fall under California's definition of a motor scooter, and according to their laws regarding motorized scooters:
Registration, Insurance, and Liscence are not required for motorized scooters. V.C. 21224.

The operation of motorized scooters is codified in the California Vehicle Code, Article 5, sections 21220 -23330.
Definition of a motor scooter: Any two-wheeled device that has handlebars, is designed to be stood or sat upon by the operator, and is powered by an electric motor, or gasoline two-stroke engine and is capable of propelling the device with or without human propulsion. V.C. 407.5
License Requirements: No driver's license is required to operate a motorized scooter, but the operator must be at least 16 years of age. V.C. 12804.9 & V.C. 21235
Maximum Speed: A motorized scooter may not be propelled at a speed in excess of 15 MPH. V.C. 22411 The operator of a motorized scooter shall not operate it on a highway (which also includes city streets) with a speed limit in excess of 25 MPH, unless the motorized scooter is operated within a Class II bike lane. V.C. 21235(b); 890.4 Streets & Highway Code (bike lanes defined).
Registration, Insurance and License Requirements: A motorized scooter is not required to be registered and no proof of financial responsibility (vehicle insurance) is required. V.C. 21224 Note: Your insurance policies may not provide coverage for accidents involving the use of these scooters. To determine if coverage is provided, you should contact your insurance company or agent.
Must Comply With the Vehicle Code: Every person operating a motorized scooter upon a highway has all the rights and is subject to all the provisions applicable to the driver of a vehicle ... including but not limited to, provisions concerning driving under the influence of alcoholic beverages or drugs. V.C. 21221
Night Provisions / Equipment: Motorized scooters operated during hours of darkness are required to have the proper lighting equipment and reflectors. Required is a headlight visible 300 feet to the front, red reflector visible 500 feet to the rear and white or yellow side reflectors visible 200 feet. V.C. 21223
Rules of the Road: A motor scooter traveling at a speed less than the normal speed of traffic moving in the same direction at that time shall ride as close as practicable to the right-hand curb or right edge of the roadway except when: V.C. 21228 Overtaking and passing another vehicle: Preparing for a left turn, the operator shall stop and dismount as close as practicable to the right-hand curb or right edge of the roadway and complete the turn by crossing the roadway on foot, subject to the restrictions placed on pedestrians. Necessary to avoid unusual conditions in the roadway.
Bike Lane If a bike lane exists: any person operating a motorized scooter upon the roadway shall ride within the bicycle lane except for provisions in V.C. 21228. V.C. 21229
Brake, Speed, Helmet, Age of Rider, Passengers, Handlebars, Sidewalks. The operator of a motorized scooter SHALL NOT do any of the following:

• Operate a motorized scooter carrying any package, bundle, or article that prevents the operator from keeping at least one hand upon the handlebars.
• Operate a motorized scooter with any passengers in addition to the operator.
• Operate a motorized scooter unless it is equipped with a brake that will enable the operator to make a braked wheel skid on dry, level, clean pavement.
• Operate a motorized scooter upon a sidewalk.
• Operate a motorized scooter on the highway with the handlebars raised so that the operator must elevate his or her hands above the level of his or her shoulders in order to grasp the normal steering grip area.
• Leave a motorized scooter on its side on any sidewalk, or parked on a sidewalk in any other position, so that there is not an adequate path for pedestrian traffic. V.C. 21235
I took this off another site and printed it out.
Regarding the tach...I borrowed the tach from the guy that does my engine work. I like his tach because it holds the highest rpm achieved in memory....that way you dont have to be looking at the little thing while you are zooming down the road. More of you in the area should consider coming with me and my friends for a ride in the santa ana river bed :). Down there, it's just miles of pavement to ride on and race. No cops to hassle because we are not on the streets. I have had 2 cops looked and said they didnt give a damm....the third however said we needed to get out of there because he got a call from the neighbors complaining about the noise. Then again we were riding by the ocean, where the nicer and richer people live. The river bed does run through a nice stretch of industrial area, this is the place we stop to gas up and have races. Imagine 20-30 pocket bikes, X1 , cat-eyes, pocket rockets...it's definately a scene and the noise is DAMMM LOUD.

The choke is the actual lever on the side just left of the blue circle. What i circled was the little brass looking flat head screw that is your low speed needle adjustment. i found the optimal setting to be 4.5 turns out on this low end needle.
each turn is 180deg. turn it all the way in clockwise then back it out every 180deg count out 4 180deg plus a 90 deg rotation counter clockwise and you should be around 90% there. just adjust it 1/8 either clockwise or counter depending if it's too lean or rich.
it's much better if you replace the air filter this will allow better access to that needle and idle adjustment. the choke is useless just keep cranking because it will build pressure and eventually start. thats what i do... i removed the choke and i am running a Zenoah cheap box filter which i have tons of since i race 1/5 scale RC cars and we run a special airbox on those.
Have fun and good luck with the carb tuning you will learn fast.

Kudos, for lending me your expertise! I think i'm finally getting a decent understanding on how the engine works.
Yeah to get to those adjustments, i'd have to take off the fairing, but I am planning on getting an aftermarket filter from ebay (any recommendations?), so hopefully that will allow me easier access to the adjustments.

Any way any filter will do but keep in mind you need an adapter just buy one from www.adaracing.com they have a filter with adapter for 25 or 30 bucks depending which one you buy...
they are all the same just go to the Go Ped scooter section and pick the filter section. the Zenoah motors all of them and the homelite carbs are the same they have the 31mm off center spacing on the carb so if might not say for 49cc pocket bike but they are the same.
i use their 12.50 filter (cheap) plus an adapter for 8 bucks

those will fit perfectly because they have the 31mm bolt pattern on it..
Acutally all WT, WA, HDA walbro carbs have the same style wich is what those are made for. Also the WYK and WYT i think... the carb on your bike is a WYK style which shares the 31mm.
If you intend to upgrade carbs get a WT194A which is very hard to find. they offer a 37mm venturi vs the stock 15mm. i purchased one of those and have not installed it yet currently making an adapter for it. i estimate about 5mph more.. and way better take off.

time to put a autometer 5" tach on this bad boy he he he....
YEAH RIGHT!!! i am going to hook one up from a bike a digital one this time.
looks like your pocketbike is too fast for the stock tach

Damn, you're well on your way to being fast enough to race full size sport bikes!
When i'm going 30mph on mine, it starts to shake and feels like you could easily crash. It must take huevos of steel to ride these pocket bikes at +45mph.
fishninja 06-17-2004, 11:13 PM Hey I saw your posts on the forum.
I just bought one of these things from my friend for $300.
If you mention that you're my name (Chris Vu) and say you're my friend he'll probably sell it to you for that. He's got the 47CC, 49CC, and he's getting the water cooled ones in a couple of weeks. He can make them all tricked out too so they are technically not street legal :)
The only thing is he is in San Diego, but maybe he'll ship it for you guys. He's the main distributor in San Diego. He said he'll beat any price too!!!
Give him a call and ask for Mike at:

TJFERRIS 06-18-2004, 12:16 AM anyone get enough torque out of one of these things to pull the front end off the ground yet? there's gotta be a sprocket out there for pullin wheelies:D

Yep. i've seen them for sale!!! those crazy 75mph ones could probably do it.
Lorax 06-18-2004, 02:28 AM Alright, I got my air filter today and I installed it. It didn't come with directions, and i'm not experienced with this stuff, but I think I managed to do it correctly.
I looked on eBay, and found a picture of the velocity plate installed, and I used it as a guide.
http://www.guitar.com/Discuss/img/1300/4257069/m4257519-6019.jpg
They took off their choke plate and switch. Doesn't it need to be there? Or is it okay to be full throttle always? Anyways, I left my choke plate and switch on, and the velocity plate and filter still fit on perfectly, and I cannot see any logical way that leaving the choke plate on could affect it's performance.
http://www.guitar.com/Discuss/img/1300/4257069/m4257520-6057.jpg
I fired it up. Everything seems cool! However, I won't be able to actually ride it until tomorrow night.
VOLTRONN 06-18-2004, 06:31 AM i just joined the club. i bought a BOSS 47cc full fairing pocket rocket! its fun to ride once you get past the breaking in period.

I was able to get more torque out of the red one but thats how the engine mount broke. motor rocks too much and the crank case just cracked...
it won't pop the front end up but when you crack it the thig jumps like a sudden jolt. the gear reduction on the trans is too low to prevent it to pup. I am working on a clutch with a higher stall speed right now the OE cluch comes on at around 2K rpm... i am going to modify one and get it to come on at around 5K. (basically cut 3 coils off heat and rebend the spring)
man i have to stop this crap and start working on Sigma Pi'
s POS car... he has been pestering for me to drop a turbo and other crap.
Sigma Pi (Co-Driver) 06-18-2004, 07:17 PM Found a place to race there is an actual track in Southern CA.
any one want to go?

PM me.... i am thinking of going but not 100% don't want to be the only guy with the cheap bikes racing.
Lorax 06-18-2004, 07:57 PM That track looks awesome! Definately a good design I think.
My bike is still slow and i'm a new rider so I am not ready for competition racing. However, if they had a Free Run type deal, I would be there in a heartbeat.
YellowDubRX 06-19-2004, 05:49 PM Just put in my new airfilter and NGK spark plug.

Lorax 06-19-2004, 11:46 PM Very nice! What's the top speed on your bike?
I have a 49cc cat eyes super mini with an air filter. I'm 6'1 and 180 lbs. The spedometer showed a top speed of about 42mph. I knew for sure it wasn't going that fast. I had my friend pace me in his car. The top speed was really 25mph :(
It's only on it's second tank of gas and using 30:1 oil ratio. Once I switch to 50:1 synthetic oil, will it go faster?
hutiu_kho 06-20-2004, 03:32 AM Who wants to meet up tomorrow sunday afternoon @ 1:30pm in orange county. I will be having another run down in the river bed.
If you are interested and need directions call me 909-275-2654

The speedo no matter what it says it always 20 mph, I seriously have no idea how fast mine is. With the 100octane, air filter and plug I definitely do feel a difference.
Mr. Fancypants 06-20-2004, 10:51 AM hutiu_kho - so any info on what you said before?? Are these things street legal or what?? :)
hutiu_kho 06-21-2004, 02:03 AM I'll let you know this week regarding registration. As soon as it's registered i'll post pics and details. :P
On another note...the meet I had today in orange county was good. Had a chance to try out my new X1 with cvt.
The results were what I hope it to be....47cc crotch pocket with engine work, rocket key and sprockets was left smelling my exhaust for at least 2 car length :P . Last weekend my brother lost only to this 47cc but then again we were running our X1 with the Supertrapp exhaust. Only bike out there this weekend that I've lost to, if you consider it that was a water cooled polini...off the line polini pull away 2-3 car length....I notice my cvt tranny was slipping off the line if I rev up to high for the take off. Down the stretch I was able to pull within a car length of the polini. The real estate ran out. I left a 25 foot skid mark and if it wasnt for my cousin who took damage helping it to stop I would have crashed into the other parked X1's and probably would not be up to writing this.
The 2 yellow bikes are mine :P

NRG as featured on tha last link, have a big showroom in Rancho Cucamonga and been in business for the longest. If you ran into problems, you can always go there. However, the people who didnt get the bike from NRG gets a technical support from David and this forum members.
And I dont think you can even find a really good good bike for $250  these China bikes are a bargain compared to Italian made which run around $3,000 each.

totally agreed. I have heard so much good comments from these guys at Racho Cucamonga from the pocket bike forums and local run here in SD. I, myself, will get one from them in the near future. If you get one, make sure it has the ZH-1 motor.
VOLTRONN 06-21-2004, 05:45 PM i got mine from there. its the full fairing 47cc pocket rocket .. imho its the best value. and the selection is on hand and pretty good. check out the video on their website too.
dark_13 06-21-2004, 08:28 PM yea, i was wondering what is the diff between the full fairing 47cc and just the 47cc? Im kina a n00b so please try tto help me here.

dark_13 06-21-2004, 08:49 PM my dad just said that the pocket bikes are now not street legal. he said that they changed the law. IS this true??!! OMG if it is im wasting my time :( my parents wont pitch in for one anymore :(

what mods do you have done to your x1 w/cvt? any??
STR76 06-21-2004, 11:55 PM Have you seen this????
Swiss Pocket Bike Championship (http://www.pocketbike.ch/)
hutiu_kho 06-22-2004, 01:41 AM On my bike I have head work, air filter and tuned pipe, cvt mod.
next up: regearing my x1....playing around with the sprockets now. The bike at this time is at stage 1 1/2. It will be at stage 2 with sprockets. At stage 3, I'll be playing with valves then.
StickyRikky 06-22-2004, 02:10 AM Hey just to let everyone know, I have better prices than those guys in Rancho Cucomongo and I live a lot closer to Los Angeles....Valencia to be exact (magic mountain). I have the full fairing 49cc bikes for $325 as an example. I can also deliver for a fee. E-mail me if you want details. rikky383@hotmail.com
StickyRikky 06-22-2004, 02:18 AM Oh yeah...also have x1's available. Just for people in this forum i'll give you the hookup....$350.
Get the mini-treadmill on the Bud Beer ad. Part the Pocket Bike next to it.

Valves???
what valves are you talking about? 2 stroke motors doing have valves probably just a reedvalve but you can't do any thing to that but improve it's fuel delivery. Curious to know what your talking about when you say valves?
All 2 stroke motors have Transferports:confused:
any way i have both my bikes up and running Tach reads well over 16K on the blue the red is hitting 17,200
Take off is amazing! no more bog, top end is simply amazing...
Mods Blue bike
Walbro 194A carb with a 20mm Venturi
ADA Filter
Home made velocity stack
Internal Head work (trasferports, Compression bump to 12.5:1, Timing adjustment 30Deg at TDC, intake and exhaust ports enlarged)
Exhaust
this thing feels like it never stops pulling! talk about variable valve timing...
Red bike,
Same mods but i am using a WT603 Carb 15.7mm venturi
Same filter
Same velocity stack
OEM exhaust
Same internal mods.
Blue bike has more HP it pulls away from the red one. Both have similar torque curve, but the red one just does not have hte same pull. It rev's much higher not sure why? could be due to carb since it leans out faster vs the other style...
Well either way i want to compare my bikes vs the Modified X1 all the guys around here have stock X1's and they can't compete.
Next meet guys i am THERE!!! Sigma Pi might be back from the mother land he can ride the other bike.
hutiu_kho 06-22-2004, 03:32 AM valves = reed valves for the X1
Sigma...really looking forward to seeing your bikes in action. Hope to see you there :P

keep us posted on what you do with the sprockets how many teeth you use on front and back and what kind of change it makes. Also what kind of head work do you have done just ported and polished? and where did you have that done? or did you buy a replacment head that was already worked on like from hpminimods?? And what cvt mod. did you actually do something different to the cvt or do you just mean the bike has cvt.
Thanks
Sigma Pi (Co-Driver) 06-22-2004, 01:22 PM hmm not much can be done to the reed valve? you should stick to decking the head bumping compression, and opening up the ports! you will gain 20% more power doing that vs adjusting the reed.
Lorax 06-22-2004, 02:52 PM Originally posted by Sigma Pi (Co-Driver)

Just curious but what do you think is the top speed of your cat eyes bike now?
Sigma Pi (Co-Driver) 06-22-2004, 04:49 PM hard to tell... it feels much faster than b4 probably 40 would be a safe bet... not sure if it's faster it feels much faster but i don't want to say 50mph and it did 10mph.
i picked up a New Cheepometer and installed the bad boy it looks to be accurate because it shows i don't go faster than 42mph on it. the other one would hit the 60 no problem.
but i don't know 100% how fast it goes.

any bike from China is cheap. regardless of what brand they are. Like I said before, Italian bikes are the real deal.

X1 $375 out the door. Anyone Lower ??? Going once...twice...
X1 with CVT $400 out the door. Anyone Lower ???
By the way on another note: For people that have bought bikes from me and for those that have not, interested in riding your bikes legally on public streets :D . SERIOUSLY....it can be done. I'll post more details and pics ..... dont you just love the anticipation.
will you ship the bikes out?
Sigma Pi (Co-Driver) 06-22-2004, 10:00 PM i ordered a part in the internet for my pocket bike and they screwed up!!!! they shipped out the wrong parts and they explicitly said no refunds..... :furious:
not i am SOL???
so that was a waste of $43.00 bucks...
But i will port and modify the cylinder head and sell it to some one if they are interested? i just need the correct part and don't want to sit on this thing that i would never use.
let me know if any one is interested. i will port the head for 20 bucks more... Just adjust your carb or the motor will run lean with the new port job.
FYI this is for the 49cc bikes.
StickyRikky 06-23-2004, 12:39 AM Hey....X1's here for $365 out the door, cheapest price in all of Southern California, and yes I do ship out for a small fee. Also have 49cc full fairing for $325. Rikky383@hotmail.com
Sigma Pi (Co-Driver) 06-23-2004, 02:56 AM let the low balling begin:banana:
these things get cheaper and cheaper... i paid 350 for the first bike out the door and 325 for the second and third bike out the door they even brought it to my house.
so he is giving a good deal but my cousin can cut a better deal he is in the Cerritos area too :D
hutiu_kho 06-23-2004, 03:03 AM heheee.....
but are the X1's for 365 the CVT ones ???
full fairing pocket rocket $290
Sigma pm me with your phone # I want to talk to you about your mods :P
dd88bb99 06-23-2004, 03:31 AM $365 is a great price for an X1? I was just wondering what kind of warranty do we get with the bike? Also how much are your X1 w/CVT?
Thanks
David
StickyRikky 06-23-2004, 03:38 AM They are guaranteed to work when i give them to you. As a matter of fact when I sell them I prefer to fire them up and let the buyer take it for a ride. So they are sold as is, but not sold unless working. These are brand new bikes straight out of the box. And if there is a manufacturer defect, then yes a refund or exchange will be granted.
hutiu_kho 06-23-2004, 01:02 PM "So they are sold as is, but not sold unless working"
So basically no support after I take my bike home ....
Sigma Pi (Co-Driver) 06-23-2004, 01:41 PM what sucks is the support that is very hard to find.. i purchased one that went 30 out of the box and the other at 25 but i could not get support as to if the carb had adjustments my cousin didn't know?
so i had to take it apart and look up what style carb (WYK) and after that i started modding it. now my cousin is asking me how to tune the bikes and i am giving him support to his customers.
So Support would be the biggest thing on these pocket bikes!
Check your PM hutiu_kho
BTW tip for all of you guys!!!!
WT603 carb best bang for the buck! drop in with a very very mild mod to the carb spacer just enlarge the plus hole with a xacto knife. order it from ADAracing.com HP carb kit WT603 or WT668. it's a good mod for 50-60 bucks major gain in the mid range and more kick down low since it has a high and low needle adjsutments.
Set the low @ 2 turns out
Set the high at 2.5 turns out.
that should be a starting point adjust the low to get proper idle and fast start up. Set the high based on your top end speed you have about a half turn to fool with if it's too rich the engine stalls out. too lean and well your going slow
Also the throttle slop!!! I HATE IT that can be adjsuted to less throttle slop. mine i did some work good 2 hrs and it has 0 throttle slop now.
But carb and filter guys!!! best bang for the buck.
StickyRikky 06-23-2004, 01:46 PM Hey I'll be honest...I'm no mechanic and not an expert on these bikes. I teach myself. When something happens with my bike I use common sense and fix it myself, or I ask somebody for their opinion. It's a great way to learn. Sure if something goes wrong I'll try and help you fix it, but I'm not going to offer a lifetime guarantee or be your personal mechanic. I do have a great hook-up and that's why I'm able to offer these bikes at such a low price. if you want to take advantage of that, be my guest. If not feel free to go elsewhere.
Sigma Pi (Co-Driver) 06-23-2004, 03:19 PM the new X1 engine is it the same as the old cat eye? i am assuming yes but i have not taken a real close look at both motors just a quick glance.
OH2WRX 06-24-2004, 12:43 PM After all the talk about pocket bikes I decided to buy one. I purchased the X1 in silver color with the black cvt cover. My question is now that I got it. Whats the first thing I should do to it? add fuel filter, change fuel line, remove the plastic disc for air filter. What else? I read the manual i came with..what a joke that was.
Thanks

and how did you rid of the slop?
thanks sigma!
Sigma Pi (Co-Driver) 06-24-2004, 07:13 PM there is a copper fitting right on the carb. back that puppy out as much as possible. and there is a metal tube on the throttle lever on the handle bar. back that out as much as possible. With the stock carb i was able to get rid of 50% of the slop with the new carb i cut the cable short so i ahve no slop.
Cutting the cable requires some modding and some tools to fix the end of the cable. but you can at least remove 50%.
Man we should have a meet (tech meet) where we all adjust and fine tune the bikes. the bike came with all the tools you need to take it apart so we should all be able to work on these things.
OH2WRX 06-24-2004, 08:00 PM cool got rid of most of the slop on the trottle cable..thanks. now what do you guys do with the stock fuel lines. leave it alone and tie wrap it out of the way or change it to larger ones that you could get at auto parts store.Dont know if that would help. But I the inline filter that i purchased is for too large for stock lines.:(
OH2WRX 06-24-2004, 08:08 PM o yeah how much slack do you run on the chain?
VOLTRONN 06-24-2004, 08:22 PM i just place a phat order on ada racing. carb kit with the 603. fuel line air filter. new pegs. id like to get rid the slop on my cables too. we should get a mod/tuning meet soon. think of a good day and time. the SCIC P bike mod thread.
OH2WRX 06-24-2004, 08:41 PM Just do like they said above. Its probaly best if you remove the fairing to get to the brass adjuster on the carb and the other one is below the throttle. btw what size fuel line did you buy?
im trying to put a filter on mine so I dont get crap in carb

sorry to say but the bike actually has a filter already in the tank. it has a little cotton/paper type filter which sits in the tank. so an inline is just for kicks i would say.
As for fuel line best place to get this is Home Depot!!!! belive it or not they have a clear type line which is fuel resistent. I forgot what it is called i purchased some for my 1/5 scale a while back and i have some left over. No longer have the tag but i will stop buy there and get the tag and SKU number.
but it's CHEAP!!!! you get a big bundle for 7 bucks i think it was 20ft.
But for inline filters you can use the ones from RC'Cars go to a local jobby shop or a lawn mower shop and get a small fuel filter.
As for larger fuel line it's not necessary because the carb will pulse only an X amount of fuel. larger lines will allow you to store more fule in them but it won't gain in performance just milage. Thats how we cheat in 5th scale racing :p run larger lines to hold more fule this way you can use a hot motor and not worry about running out after 30 min.
TIP!!!!
when you buy a new carb it comes with instructions it states to turn the L needle 1 turn out and the H needle to 1.5 turns out. This is ideal for a 23cc motors which is what they were intended for use with. on the 49cc you need more fuel to actaully crank the thing over. L=2 and H=2.5 turns should get you going after that keep tuning and riding.
Just don't want people buying these carbs and following the instructions and get the blame for hard starts :(
Chain tension.
Basically i run mine loose not much tension. loosen the mount screws on teh bottom push the top part of the chain down untill it hits the rear swing arm. Slowly tighten the chain slop but tightening the adjustment screws (pulls the motor forward) untill you see a 1/4 inch gap while your pussing down on the chain. that should suffice with your chain tension. you don't need to apply allot of finger tension just enough like a 4lb weight or something. if it's too tight you will run slow. if it's too loose you will get chain chatter so you have to find the happy spot.
OH2WRX 06-25-2004, 03:28 AM Cool thanks for the tips on the chain. Didnt know how loose or tight to run it.
So where is everyone getting their carbs? I found the walbro wt668 for about 40 bucks shipped. I believe the web site said that these have 2 jets with 15.88 bore and 12.7 venturi. Will this carb fit?
Sigma Pi (Co-Driver) 06-25-2004, 04:02 AM it will fit it has a 31mm off center bore from bolt to bolt so it's a direct bolt on. just modify the intake manifold slightly with a hobby knife. you need to enlarge the hole for the pulse so the carb can meter the fuel properly if not 50% of it will be blocked off and you will get cycles of lean then rich then lean again.
You can get it from www.adaracing.com or www.gomeyer.com Get the kit with the linkage runs about 65-70 bucks i think?
you can get the carb alone for 40 bucks but your going to spend about 20 bucks in misc parts, like teh swivle, drill bit, link bracket, brass fitting. if you get the carb kit you actually save about 5 bucks.
OH2WRX 06-25-2004, 01:27 PM Hmm..didnt realize that I needed all that..Does the stock carb have any of those parts? I could just canabilize the stock one if its cheaper. If not what carb do you recommend for the x1 cvt pb.
Thanks
Sigma Pi (Co-Driver) 06-25-2004, 02:42 PM you can take the brass adjuster from the oe carb thats about it :( you still need the bracket which is 7 bucks, and order cable link adapter thing another 4 bucks, and run to a hardware sotre to get a drill bit for anoter 1 dollar for the cheap ones (get 2) or a decent Dewalt for 2.95.
what sucks is if you order the bracket and the cable link stuff it's 11 bucks and shipping is at least 5.50. so it's not worth it just to order those POS parts :( I hate paying for shipping if it's 25% or higher than the total cost...
i hate paying for shipping period heheheheh..
WT603 CArb or WT608 is the best for the 49CC motors.

hutiu_kho 06-26-2004, 03:09 AM If anyone is interested, tomorrow night 8:00pm at the rialto speedway. I've checked the place out and it's a nice track. I've also spoke with the owner and he said we can ride for as long as we want. He'll show where the lights switch are and just to remember to shut off the lights when we leave. He goes to bed at 12-1 am. There are no problems with the noise since the track is part of the rialto airport. Last week there were an official race sanctioned by the pocket bike racing association. He said there were about 50 entries. 20 of those were chinese bikes :P. They were split up into 3 classes: Amateur, Pro, and Open. Can you believe that an X1 took the price in the dash for cash $140. He did 75 laps around the whole track (with pit). This will be a fun and safe place for me to ride my bike until I get them registered.
It's a saturday night and we are welcome to stay as long as we like. Anyone interested give me a call 909-275-2654. I just want to get some track time before the next official pocket race there coming this july 17.
in the process of registering: I need to change out all of my lighting to d.o.t. approved *****. But dont you all rush to spend your money yet, I'll be the test piggy here. Let you guys know the result on monday.

tghdog 06-28-2004, 03:02 AM Hey
noobie here. i just got one of the x-1s and a hp carb from pbu.
anyone have any info on tuning these? mine seems really rough at idle cant get it smooth!!!
gaijin 06-28-2004, 08:27 AM raise the idle if its really low
but its also a one cyl so thats it too
Sigma Pi (Co-Driver) 06-28-2004, 04:11 PM there is a little pulse hole on the carb. make sure that is clean and it actually is clear of any thing. that pulse hole is for idle and fule delivery it's actually the only way the carb knows if the engine is running or not. sends a vac signal and pressurizes the carb.
if this is blocked the idle will be rough and when you get on it it's rough too...
tghdog 06-29-2004, 02:20 AM thanks-i wasn't sure what that pulse hole was for. The adaptor that came with the kit didnt line up so the hole was plugged!!
Just got the motor back together and will test 2 morrow. It was alot faster but the idle was really rough and it sputtered mid throttle.
OH2WRX 06-29-2004, 06:09 AM Does anyone make better tires for the 49 x2 model. I finally took my baby out the other evening to brake her in. tires are slippery in the turns.

hutiu_kho 07-03-2004, 07:17 AM For those that are interested in going out to rialto speedway, July 17th will be the next official race date...so come out and get your practice runs in....I've been out there everyday since last saturday :P....first night out there I crashed and broke the front end on my X2....too damm fast for the turn....but it's been a blast running the ovals and a challenge running the inside track. I was out there tonight until 2:30 a.m. I like to run at night from 8:00 pm because it gets damm hot out here during the day time. I ran across people who came from San Diego, rode on the track until 2-3 am and sleep in the back of their trucks just to ride again early in the morning. Die-hard riders :P. Anyhow hope to see more of you guys out there.

I believe you have a replica of the Boreem. Boreem actually has a raised gold badge on the gas tank. And it doesn't say x1 on the bike. It also says Boreem on the engine. I don't know what the difference is other than that.
I hit 42 going downhill yesterday.
When you go to the track, are there any rules about modifcations? Sounds like fun.
Anyone have any tips on the best fuel mixture ratio? I am doing 25:1, anyone tried anything different?

OH2WRX 07-05-2004, 03:56 AM Hey guys just got back from movie but early in the morning we had 8 pbs dicing it up..well i should say only like 5 of us were doing the dicing the other cats were getting in the way. Were going to have to start making A and B groups for reals tho..haha.
Anyhow I just wanted to find out the difference if any with the X1 and X2 are. One web site says that the x1's top speed go about 30-40 and the x2 go about 40-50mph. Is there any truth to this? I know that some of the early X1 came with the silver covered transmission and are slow. But the ones we bought had the black covers and the guy that sold it to us said that the X1 and X2s are the same bike with different stickers if the x1 has the black tranny cover.
Jaredm82 07-05-2004, 04:14 AM silver cover = I dunno

Anyone know whats the real difference with X1 and X2 bikes
Thanks
That's the difference. The x1 has one speed, and the x2 you can shift gears (but it's also bigger).
TJFERRIS 07-06-2004, 10:02 PM
I have an x2 but what do you mean you can shift gears?? it has the black cvt tranny but it's still only "one speed" The cvt is a Continuously Variable Transmission meaning it constantly adjusts to give the best gear ratio for speed, torque, and weight of rider. But unless there is another "X2" out there or i'm missing something on my bike there is nothing to "Shift" and although it has a 45 mph speedo your lucky to hit 20mph on the stock bike....i'll let ya know after I mod it what it will do.
TJFERRIS 07-06-2004, 10:15 PM has anyone used a juice box or a blast box from pbu or pbu has a new item called the boost bottle, has anyone used or know of someone who has used one of these?? what do the really help and are they worth the time and money or not??
wrx grl 07-06-2004, 10:41 PM Hmm, well I meant that it has more than one speed.
My bike on a flat surface can go 35 easily (and almost 45 downhill). And I was under the impression that x2 could go faster than that because it doesn't top out with one gear.
I have a Boreem though so I know I have a real x1. Not sure how the replicas work.
pocketbikefever 07-07-2004, 04:18 AM i do not know if boreem x1 is the best.
most cheap chinese scooter have screws break down on the engine mount!. it is very common problem, best way is the change the whole motor because less labour. labour is not cheap!! change the whole motor is fast, less problem!
good luck!

Yeah my coworker who only weighs 140lbs can go 40mph per speedo and that is riding it on the street from his house . I have gone like 31 but thats on our parking lot track and I weigh 185. I think it will go faster just need to try on long straight
hutiu_kho 07-07-2004, 05:42 AM On a stock X2 you'll need at least a good 2 1/2 block run....did about 42 on one....but then again these bikes are all one of a kind if you know what i mean :P. Regarding broken engine mounts....yes it's a common thing :/ . found out that the only thing holding my engine in place were the screws to the gear box and the muffler.....I have spare engines...but were able to find a good plate that still had the holes to mount the screws in place. I'll have to switch out the head and the piston anyhow since port and polish work was done, I cant just swap out the head :/ I stripped my bike down rewelded the broken mounts on the frame and getting ready to lock tite every nut and bolts. I have to prep this baby for the race this coming 17th.
Tomorrow, Wednesday night open practice at the rialto airport speedway. Hope to see some of you guys out there.

So why do you think my x2 is so sloooooooow? When I roll it It sounds like something is "dragging" I adjusted the brakes so loose that it barley grabs when i hit the brakes... but the best i can get is 20 mph i've only ran one tank thru and i have only adjusted the carb a little and it seemed to help but i can't see getting even to 30 mph on this thing..... i want to spend the money to mod one but if i'm only gonna get to 30 mph by dumping another 400 bucks in it it's not worth it! Is there something in the cvt that can be adjusted?
Thanks

if you hear something dragging then you should first find out what it is by lifting it up and spinning the front wheel if its dragging its going to slow you down not much but it will slow you down. Also did you do all the basic stuff like check the tire pressure, chain tension, fuel line not getting pinched. How bout the free mod- taking out the round disc in the air filter assembly.
that alone was worth 4mph when i tuned my first x1 (friends bike) which got me hooked and that why i bought one.
Of course speed is dependant on riders weight i weigh about 185 and mine got up to 28 on first day.

hey man...yeah..my bolts broke off..you have 2 choices...replace the motor...or take to a machine shop to back out the broken bolts..mine broke and couldnt save the screw holes..so the machine shop friend drilled them out and set new screw holes..the original bolts are cheap..and break ez. if you get it fixed...replace them with the highest grade bolt you can get...( i used grade 8) and its been fine since. these bikes are fun...but can break ez...even under normal conditions...but still fun

Yeah they were installed this weekend. On a flat road, no hill, my boyfriend's brother got it up to almost 50 but slowed down because it gets shaky, ha ha. I got it to over 40 and slowed down. It's scary!!

Damn 50 mph on a mini bike is crazy. I can only guess how fast I'm going since the speedometer doesnt work properly:lol: .
Does anyone know where to buy a mini bike stand locally, in or around LA?

Even though my bike can go 50, doesn't mean I can drive it safely that fast, ha ha. I still gotta figure out new placement for the pegs because when I turn they hit the ground.
wrx grl 07-13-2004, 05:55 PM Holy crap, Batman! I just took my bike around in my neighborhood for the first time since I brought it back from Redlands and crap that's fast. My head was shaking so much I could barely see the road so I let off after about 48 mph. Sheesh, this is one fast little animal!
STR76 07-13-2004, 05:59 PM I don't plan to race but I am definitely going to make it out there. I haven't ever seen a official pocket bike race before! :D

PsiRRizzed247 07-19-2004, 05:17 PM I know the po po's have been trying to crack down on these 2wd mini speed devils lately.........thus, front page of oc register today 7-19-14 "Miniature Cycles Growing Concern" Supposedly the po po's blocked off a street in garden grove, ran a suspect line of 6 kids and impounded 2 p/b's. The neighbors main complaint of course is the noise, kids riding on the wrong side of the road, and that drivers cant see them.
I know the majority of you guys keep it on private land. Its just one of those things that make the pb's look bad.
Sigma Pi (Co-Driver) 07-20-2004, 08:38 PM yeah the only way to goof around now is on private property.

03 Silver Bullet 07-25-2004, 11:09 PM Just got a pocket bike this weekend and wanted to know if anyone in Fullerton knows what the city ordinance was for these little guys.
I was told by FPD that you had to have a class M lic and register the bikes, but I think they misunderstood me. Then they directed me to the CHP and DMV sites for more info.
Those basically told me that the pocket bikes are classified as motorized scooters and can be ridden in class II bike lanes as long as the speed limit was 25 mph or less? Does this sound right?
Thanks

I spilled pretty bad this weekend too. Luckly it was just scratches, but damn does it hurt! Glad to hear that your wife is okay. At least the fall was in the dirt. I fell on concrete and tooke a nice couple layers of skin of my arm at 30 mph.
How bad is the damage on the front? Can you just replace the head piece?

I might go that route. Where did you get yours, or do you know any websites with some good deals?
autopilot54 - You might want to throw your for sale post in the "for sale" thread. Read the post a couple spots up...
alvinllaneza 08-25-2004, 12:16 AM I was at the beach this weekend and saw 4 different people get tickets for riding pocketbikes around the parking lot, so if you get one steer clear of the cops and crowded places where cops are likely to be.
were they wearing helmets
alvinllaneza 08-25-2004, 12:35 AM And this is how it looks on a 6"2 person:
