Where in socal are you? There's some guy on ebay who sells em out of Simi Valley and has them available for pickup for a decent price. He has the 47cc and 49cc ones...can't remember his username, but search ebay for either 49cc or pocketbike and you should find em.

I was at the beach this weekend and saw 4 different people get tickets for riding pocketbikes around the parking lot, so if you get one steer clear of the cops and crowded places where cops are likely to be.

They are legal as long as you're at least 16 and have a dot approved helmet. I think it's the same as having a motorized scooter. I believe when you get a ticket it's a moving violation... you can even get a DUI on these things. So don't be stupid and I'm sure the cops won't bother you.

Im currently looking at ebay at one called a boss or something. They are out in Cucamonga so I could even pick it up there. 299.95. Anyone else want to get one? Get a price break?

AFAIK the law states: If they are under 50cc you can ride them on the public streets with no helmet or license.

Did you ever get one? I was looking at the same boss ones on eBay. Is there a particular brand that is good to buy, or certain specs to look for?

What kinda gas do these things run on?

blitzpb
05-10-2004, 02:31 AM
I cant tell which ones to buy. It looks like a lot of the ones out there now (for around 3-400) are made in China. Im not sure about the Boss ones, they dont say. If you want a really good one, then youll want to get one of the italian originals, Blata, ATM. These will cost you into the thousands of dollars though. If you are in to getting a Boss, I will call them and see if they will cut us a deal on 2! If we can get a few SCIC'rs to buy a few maybe we can get the price down even more!

Oh yeah, they are 2 stroke, IE 25:1 oil fuel mix.

Mr. Fancypants
05-10-2004, 03:46 AM
Yeah its hard to tell which one to get. A lot of them look similar though. Im not really looking to spend thousands of dollars, i just want to get one to mess around with. Who knows how long these ($300-400) ones will last, but its relatively cheap anyway.

Ive browsed around and saw the 49cc ones that are "big" pocket bikes. Bigger than the boss ones (which are tiny) so might be a bit more comfortable.

Something like this: LINK (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=47352&item=3676907014&rd=1). Or LINK (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=47352&item=3676830943&rd=1). This bike goes for around $350 or so if you look around. These also have tail lights, head lights, signals, horn etc. if you gonna ride in the night or if that matters :D Either way, a grown man look funny on these things, but they are fun fun!

03WREX
05-10-2004, 12:32 PM
If you're really interested in a pocketbike send me a PM. My friends and I went in on a groupbuy about 2 months ago and picked up the small 47cc china bikes. We got em for $350 but can probably get em cheaper now. Some of our other friends just got the 49cc one's that have the headlights etc, but they're slow!

The 47cc bikes are fun as hell! I'll admit we look pretty dorky but there's nothing like 6 or 7 minibikes zooming by w/ people looking stunned --> We've actually had a friend pace us in his car... we got up to about 28-30mph. I'll try to post some pix when I get home from work today.

I attached a copy of the information I read on www.nwminimoto.com

The operation of motorized scooters is codified in the California Vehicle Code, Article 5, sections 21220 -23330.

Definition of a motor scooter: Any two-wheeled device that has handlebars, is designed to be stood or sat upon by the operator, and is powered by an electric motor, or gasoline two-stroke engine and is capable of propelling the device with or without human propulsion. V.C. 407.5

License Requirements: No driver's license is required to operate a motorized scooter, but the operator must be at least 16 years of age. V.C. 12804.9 & V.C. 21235

Maximum Speed: A motorized scooter may not be propelled at a speed in excess of 15 MPH. V.C. 22411 The operator of a motorized scooter shall not operate it on a highway (which also includes city streets) with a speed limit in excess of 25 MPH, unless the motorized scooter is operated within a Class II bike lane. V.C. 21235(b); 890.4 Streets & Highway Code (bike lanes defined).

Registration, Insurance and License Requirements: A motorized scooter is not required to be registered and no proof of financial responsibility (vehicle insurance) is required. V.C. 21224 Note: Your insurance policies may not provide coverage for accidents involving the use of these scooters. To determine if coverage is provided, you should contact your insurance company or agent.

Must Comply With the Vehicle Code: Every person operating a motorized scooter upon a highway has all the rights and is subject to all the provisions applicable to the driver of a vehicle ... including but not limited to, provisions concerning driving under the influence of alcoholic beverages or drugs. V.C. 21221

Night Provisions / Equipment: Motorized scooters operated during hours of darkness are required to have the proper lighting equipment and reflectors. Required is a headlight visible 300 feet to the front, red reflector visible 500 feet to the rear and white or yellow side reflectors visible 200 feet. V.C. 21223

Rules of the Road: A motor scooter traveling at a speed less than the normal speed of traffic moving in the same direction at that time shall ride as close as practicable to the right-hand curb or right edge of the roadway except when: V.C. 21228

Overtaking and passing another vehicle: Preparing for a left turn, the operator shall stop and dismount as close as practicable to the right-hand curb or right edge of the roadway and complete the turn by crossing the roadway on foot, subject to the restrictions placed on pedestrians. Necessary to avoid unusual conditions in the roadway.

Bike Lane If a bike lane exists: any person operating a motorized scooter upon the roadway shall ride within the bicycle lane except for provisions in V.C. 21228. V.C. 21229

Brake, Speed, Helmet, Age of Rider, Passengers, Handlebars, Sidewalks The operator of a motorized scooter SHALL NOT do any of the following:

Operate a motorized scooter when the operator is under the age of 16 years old.

Operate a motorized scooter without wearing a properly fitted and fastened bicycle helmet per 21212 VC. (Roller-Blade and Skateboard helmets do not meet the requirement).

Operate a motorized scooter carrying any package, bundle, or article that prevents the operator from keeping at least one hand upon the handlebars.

Operate a motorized scooter with any passengers in addition to the operator.

Operate a motorized scooter unless it is equipped with a brake that will enable the operator to make a braked wheel skid on dry, level, clean pavement.

Operate a motorized scooter upon a sidewalk.

Operate a motorized scooter on the highway with the handlebars raised so that the operator must elevate his or her hands above the level of his or her shoulders in order to grasp the normal steering grip area.

Leave a motorized scooter on its side on any sidewalk, or parked on a sidewalk in any other position, so that there is not an adequate path for pedestrian traffic. V.C. 21235

So, basically, you can "legally" ride them around your neghborhood but not on the sidewalk? I cant wait to get one!

So far, you can legally... but I have a feeling the law will find a way to stop these from being on the road. I've only been stopped once by a cop and at the time I didn't know the specifics of the law I posted above. My friend's and I were on the sidewalk going the opposite way of traffic... so I guess, technically we were breaking the law... but the cop was cool about it and told us to just ride in residential zones.

I just called the ebay store "national recreation group" they have a new pocket rocket out called the boreem, Apparantly, its identicl to the Boss, except for it has a performance air filter and new exhaust pipe. They are selling them for 250 which is cheaper that the boss!! They can give a 25.00 price break on an order of 12. SOOOO, if there are 12 people interested, I say lets do it! Otherwise, Ill just buy one myself. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=47352&item=3676570378&rd=1

Imagine a TGIM meet where we all bust out pocket bikes from our trunk areas! That would be comedy.

Hey All,

Me and a few friends just picked up a bunch of the chinese pocket bikes but there was a miscommunication so we have one extra bike. It's the chinese 47cc bike. I already have one of these and I can vouch that they are fun bikes.

If you guys are interested let me know. I live in OC, so if you want to come and check out my bike and ride it send me a PM. The bike I'm selling is still in the box. I'm asking $300 for it. Let me know soon because I plan to put it up on ebay if nobody wants it but would rather sell local.

An update to the Group Buy question. We would need to order 12 at a time to get a discount. The price on the Boss will drop from 299 to 274. They only have red and yellow in stock right now but are getting another shipment in tomorrow (They dont know what colors). It does not look like, to me, that we have enough people interested for 12 and I dont feel like wasting too much time waiting for a bunch of people. But, lets see what kind of response we get on this today and then maybe we might be able to do it!

Guys, I am personally leaning towards NRG for buying the bikes (or at least mine) because they seem to be a decent sized operation with tech support, parts ordering etc. AND their prices arent any better or worse than some of these gas station dealers. I will be contacting them today to see what they say about a group buy on a few of their bikes.

Nick

blitzpb
05-20-2004, 03:47 PM
Ok, they will do a mix and match for us. But the problem is that they do not have the 49cc's in stock right now. Those will be in sometime next week. The only have full fairing 47cc Boss bikes in stock. By the end of today they will have 47cc Boreems. If we order 12 bikes total its about 25.00 off per bike. The Boreems list at 250, the 47cc half fairing Boss is 300, full fairing is 329.00, The 49cc Boss mini GP is 350.00. Shipping will be extra if you dont want to pick it up or have someone pick it up for you.

As far as payment goes, I think it would be the easiest if we all called and paid separately. You would give them an order code, SCIC for instance, and they would give us the discounted price.

Pick up would be the cheapest for you otherwise you will have to pay shipping charges. I think the shipping is 60.00 per bike. Im sure that there will be at least a few people here that will go and pick up their bike and we could probably pick up the rest and we could meet up somewhere, either at a scheduled meet or an impromptu one.

Im going to leave this open until Monday morning. If we have enough people, I will call them back and iron out all the details. If you want to see what they have, you can go to www.ebay.com and search for boss pocket bikes, boreem pocket bikes. Or go to www.nationalrecreation group.com

That is all

zeki - The 47cc Boreem is very similar to the 47cc Boss pocket rocket except its cheaper by about $50 and has a "throatier sound" according to their website.

Fairing has to do with the body style, and how much of the frame is covered. Well thats what I gather from looking at the pics. More fairing = higher cost.

longuyen - blitz said its roughly $60 per bike for shipping but you may want to call for a quote. But if it is around that price, thats pretty good considering what others are charging.

blitzpb - I will be picking up my bikes. Im down for 2 now if thats cool?

Yeah it looks like we got more than 12 now. Hey blitz, do they give discount for 12 and over? Or just 12 flat?

I wonder if they got the 49cc in stock yet.

thanx for the answers i thought of some more questions =P
1. when u say similar the boreem 47cc and boss 47cc are about same speed?
2. The 47cc are all the smaller bikes?
3. the boss 49cc is the bigger one?
i think i saw some posts about this but not sure so just to confirm.

if there is a 47cc bigger bike it isn't as fast because it is bigger(more weight)?

TIA

I have been looking around for a good exhaust system myself. Michael told me that he will be carrying the mods for them soon, so right now I am just waiting.

zeki,

From what I was told, the Boss has a slightly better build (the boreem is a knockoff of the Boss, which is a knockoff of something else.) but the 2 are very similar in speed. The 49cc is the big bike. Its more because its bigger, has full fairing and working lights. I dont know why, but the 47cc is a faster bike. That might just translate as "quicker" and not faster. The speed is limited, I think, by the sprocket ratio.

EVERYONE,

Im sorry I didnt reply sooner, Ive been swamped here at work. I am going to call them right now and tell them what I have and how we should go about paing etc.

OK people!

Please IM ME the following!!!...

What size bike you want (47cc or 49cc)
If you want a 47cc then which one do you want (Boss or Boreem)
If 47cc, do you want half fairing, or full fairing
What color do you want. It will be easier to get your bikes this week if I get a few people who dont care what color they get.
Will you be picking up or having it shipped. The 49cc bike is 100 to ship because it has to come by truck and not UPS. I dont know about the 47cc.

As soon as I get this information I will be able to give you all costs and lead times. Also, they will allow us to pay individually. You will need to fax them a copy of your CC (front and back) and a copy of your drivers license. I believe that you will also be able to go online and purchase them through ebay. Ill let you know for sure.

I spoke to them about an hour ago because a coworker wanted to go over there during lunch. They have no problem with you coming by, you just might now be able to pick up your bike. They have a lot of orders that they have to fill before they can let you buy one. If you are planning on going there, call first, ask if they have what you are looking for, see if they can hold it, THEN make the trek out there.

PBU Stage 2 Kit: $314.00
1. SS Exhaust Pipe
2. Air Cleaner System
3. Flywheel Shim
4. Carburetor Set which include the parts listed below:
4.a. Walbro Pumper Carb
4.b. Choke Assembly
4.c. Aluminum Linkage
4.d. Swivel
4.e. Throttle Spring
4.f. Screws
4.g. Gaskets

3. 5 degree advance timing key.
4. Velocity stack and filter kit.

Now, looking at the pictures between the two and hand-counting the pieces and bits, PBU State 2 includes more part than the TJ's Performance Kit. To conclude, PBU is just $67.01 more than the TJ's but contains more bits and pieces than the TJ's.

the X1 are still categorized as a scooter. It is only 49cc, anything @ 50cc would require you to obtain a M1 permit to operate. Hence all these bikes being imported under the 50cc M1 classification. I was looking at the X-1 before on eBay as well. They do have headlights, taillights etc.

The length-width-height between the 49cc bikes:

49cc Mini GP ....... 51" x 14" x 27"
49cc X-1 ............ 55" x 20.5" x 27"

Dont know how accurate it is.. take a look at eBay and everyone lists different specs for dimensions, but those numbers are from Motosci.

He is in City of Industry. They are the manufacturer of the X-1, he claims. They said they are open late and early. I guess they are expecting shipments or sending out bulk orders all the time. hahaha..no, i just wake up early. i have the day off from work today but force of habit i just automatically woke up.

anyway, i picked up my yellow X1

it's not a store, he deals from his home. sounds like he's a dealer from moto gp (company name). i guess he buys from them and resells it or something.

there was some guy and his kid there...his inventory isn't open to just NASIOC. i asked the guy where he heard of david, he said from the recycler or something...

again, it's not a shop...it's a residence. if you want to pay him by cc, you'll have to paypal him.

i'm not sure when he'll be getting more bikes...it's best you call him and ask. i was under the impression he only had 5 "x1's" at the moment, one of each color.

WR xplosive - he promised my buddy a red one too...sorry i didn't read this post before i went down there, i gave him a $10 deposit for my buddy to reserve the red on for him. my friend is planning to pick his up tomorrow as well. you should call him and ask him what's up with that.

i said nasioc to him, and at first he didn't know what i meant.

it's all up to him if he's gonna give it to you for $400. he also has some referral program. basically he gave me a bunch of flyers and said "the flyer will give the person the pocket bike at $400, otherwise it's gonna be $450"

so i don't know for sure how long the $400 price is good for us. if he refuses to give it to you at that price, let me know and i'll give you a flyer.

i'm charging the battery right now and i have to go get some 2 cycle oil. also, for those of you with sedans, it barely fits across the backseat. i used some of its original packing material to keep it from moving. and i really mean barely, i had to roll down my rear window so the exhaust tip wouldn't hit my window.

WR xplosive, since you have fold down seats, you may be able to keep the bike in the box and fit it in your car. without the fold down seats, i had to take it out of the box. i didn't want to try to put it in the trunk cause it would be on its side and the fairings are flimsy.

ok guys, here's some warnings when starting up the bike.

1. first and foremost, make sure the black tube fuel line is connected!! mine came out of the box disconnected. some of my fuel spilled out, good thing i caught it quick enough so that i didn't lose too much fuel.

2. i couldn't figure out how to start the damn thing. turns out you have to engage the rear brake (left brake lever) in order to start it. this is not mentioned in the instructions.

after not being able to start the bike, i called david, he told me about engaging the brake while starting. i also mentioned about the disconnected fuel line and he said that was the case for him too. damn chinks (i'm chinese and i don't mind the term in this case) are trying to kill us. i think we should get some clamps and clamp that sucker down.

WR xplosive

LTSmash, thanks for the heads-up.

two-cycle oil and gas is needed which we can get from any generic gas station, plus charge the battery correct? Just in case the manual did not cover my concerns :D

LTSmash
05-28-2004, 11:22 PM
WR xplosive,

yeah, i went to kragen and bought a bottle of 2-cycle oil and a 2.5 gallon gas can.

the mixing bottle is really small (600 mL capacity). so it's not wise fill the mixing bottle using the gas station pump. i believe the gas tank capacity is 1 L. it would also be wise to use a funnel to transfer the fuel/oil mix from the mixing bottle to the gas tank.

i used 87 octane with the 2cycle oil.

the longest wait is for the battery to fully charge. make sure you install the fuse so you can charge the battery.

it's really hard to tell how fast it goes...i don't think the speedometer is accurate, plus it's hard to lean back to look at it in the first place. this thing better be faster than the mini gp. guess we'll have to see for ourselves at the pocket bike meet.

there's a kragen on the way to david's place at the intersection of gale and hacienda, next to a 99cent store. or i'm sure they have this stuff at wal mart, which is also near there on gale and azusa.

i rode it around my neighborhood, which is kind of hilly. it took the inclines pretty well. i can't imagine trying to handle one of those small 47cc bikes. the x1 is a good size for leaning :D

I picked it up around noon and I was able to shove it on my 04 Civic coupe back seat  I think the battery was fully charged after 3 hours. I went to Kragen picked up 1 gallon plastic gas container and a gallon of Valvoline 2-cycle. I love the size of this bike and it wasnt as loud as the smaller ones. The headlight was pretty bright on broad daylight too. But on full throttle, the handle-bar and the whole bike starts to rattle/shake which shook my internal organs as well

this is the color that I picked up, all stickers are gone. right next to it is my 17" wheel for size reference.

LTSmash, its the same one you have and the same ON SALE helmet

I was waved down by one of the ladies and asked how much I got for.

Two guys in mini-GP compared and kinda regretful to see how small their bike is. I cruised along with them and we gunned it, but they could not catch up. I guess they got scared with the smoke that was coming from my tail pipe.

Oh yeah, after riding the bike, I read the manual and it said that the air-gate should be in UP position. UP position is CLOSED and down position is OPEN position. Manual suggest to have it in UP Position which is closed. The bike later wouldnt start. I flipped it down again and it did start finally.

hutiu_kho
05-31-2004, 02:08 AM
the choke should be up (closed) when you first break in your engine. They didnt want you to put it down (open) because they didnt want you to full throttle it when you get it out of the box. If you should full throttle it with choke in up closed position. The engine would just stall. The first gas tank is important. Ride it normally and accelerate smoothly. Dont try to make reving sounds though it is very tempting on your first gas tank. After that it's pretty much anything goes. Have fun. When are we all gonna get together and have a pocket bike race ? In about 2 weeks i know of a race, it's gonna be in o.c. if anyone's interested. The brackets are being finalize. And there will be a prize...a new bike or the pot. As i get more info i'll let you guys know.

Also next thursday, i'll be getting the latest and greatest model of the bike..... the X2....is coming. I've heard it has new improvements, better front shocks, side mirrors, working backlight. all things necessary i guess for you to ride it in the street legally i.e. a scooter. I'll post some pics as soon as my stock comes in.

this is for 49cc rear exhaust port bikes

for 47cc daytona (true pocket bike size) upgrades go here

http://www.sdscooters.com/47cc_Pocket_Bike_Parts.html

As far as the chinese bikes are concerned all upgrades are the same for the 49cc rear port (also sometimes called a 46). This covers the X1, X2 3spd, X3 Ninja, and X4 Ninja. The 47cc pocket bikes with front facing exhaust port also use all the same ports. Basically there are only 2 motors worth bothering with. The 47cc has reed valves, the 49cc just has piston ports. If you look around you can also find better prices on the individual parts but the package deals are hard to beat.

I am no way affiliated with any pocket bike related site. I jus race them (cause they are bigger than the pocket, the Super's rule).

I just picked up my 47cc from 03wrex yesterday. I had that thing fired up in no time! What a hoot! I did have one issue with it, and Im not sure if this will be true for all the 47cc bikes out there, but the throttle lickage on the handlebar was on top of the brake lever. This severely limited my right turn radius. I had to dissasemble the throttle linkage, flip it underneath the brake and remount it. After that I had full steering. The only other problem I have now is that the gas tank seems to have a small leak somewhere. I dont think its a big issue, but Ill need to find out where the leak is and fix it. We need to have a parking lot race now!

They still have the half fairing 47cc's for 300. They also have a 47cc for 250 I think.

For those who think the 47cc is too small for them, I am 6-2, 197 and it is SO much fun. Getting that thing up to top speed (supposedly 35) and banking a turn is nuts!

Hey Nick,

Glad to hear that you're loving that bike... I knew u would. The turning on these bikes aren't the greatest, I've learned to lean into the turns so that helped out quite a bit.

I'm not sure about the gas leak though. One thing that I've read is that you should zip tie the gas line to the frame so it doesn't rest near the exhaust. I've heard that the exhaust could burn the rubber hose if it rests on it.

Hope you're having a blast on that thing. Not sure how close you live to me but my friends and I go riding every once in a while. It's hilarious to see about 8 of these little bikes zooming around.

Some lady walking her dog stopped to talk about it while I was still in the driveway. She said her grand daughter got one! Then she asked if the bike was for my son. "Heeeck no" I said, "Its for me!" She busted up laughing and left  .

It may not even be leaking from the tank, I get a little dribble from the gas cap, that may have been it.

If you want the MINI GP 49cc pocket bike ($375) call 714-632-3482 and tell them Kevin w/ the WRX sent you. Pick from black, silver, red & blue! Ask for a helmet too if you're going to be using this on the streets.

It comes with tools, gas holder/mixture, & battery charger. These bikes use a 25:1 mixture of unleaded gas and 2 cycle oil. Engine uses electric start or a pull start, and has a working horn, headlights, turn signals, and tail lights.

They can be even tuned to hit excess for 45mph with intake and exhaust.

I didn't realize these were getting really popular. I got my 49cc Boreem last Saturday for $300 cash. One of my friend's cousins was selling them, so me and some buddies bought one on an impulse. I got it in solid red to match my SRP WRX. I'll post pics when I can.

The only thing about it is that the right break lever is for the front brakes and the left brake lever is for the back which is the opposite of what I'm used to. Also, it tends to get hot around your left leg if you wear shorts.

I'll see if my friend's cousin can get more for $300 and I'll let you guys know. Some of my other friends want one now too.

I am having a fuel cut problem on my bike. When I have it going at WOT and at top speed, the engine will cut out and I have to bring it down a little before I can bring it back up. Is this just because the fuel cant keep up or what? If that is the problem, then I now know why all the kids with hopped up scooters will seemingly let off the gas and get back on it right away. I thought it was just to annoy the crap out of me but after trying it myself, I think that you have to do that or the fuel supply runs low. Im on tank 3 with 2 more to go before I can switch to 50:1. Bring your ride, modified or not it will be a ride together and to show off and share ideas of what can be done to these bikes.

On another note: X2 i just got one to test out. The take off of the X2 is much faster due to the cvt tranny. The speedometer now shows 45 mph instead of 30 mph on the X1. My brother was able to push the bike up to 35-40 mark before he had to engage the brakes (end of the street). The chain on the X2 is also different than the X1. It seems stronger and the gaps looks to be a lil closer. The X2 are $50 more making it $450 total out the door. Those who are coming this sunday will be able to see the x2 but at this moment it will be bone stock.

Those who are coming this sunday will be able to see the x2 but at this moment it will be bone stock.

Hey man, do you take trade it? ;) that's X2 is so tempting. I hope It's going to be a great turn-out.

those are normal and are due to lubrication from the chains.

How is the bike running now, I was at David's when you were trying to see what was wrong with it. I was driving the White Integra picking up another X1

Hey dude! The bike seems to be running well. I haven't had much time to ride it so much after that day, as this is my last week before finals. :/

I'm actually very tempted to purchase the X-2... Does anybody want to buy a X1? I'll sell it cheap! :) Let me know.

I haven't seen it yet, but i don't think there's many changes other than a speedo that reads to 45 mph and the CVT tranny. Perhaps hutiu_kho can chime in and give us more concrete information and perhaps some pictures :)

I picked up two X-1s from hutiu_kho (Billy) last Sunday but only got around to driving them today. I recommend buying them from him! Great customer support and hes a nice guy :)

I noticed that with the choke up (closed), the engine stalls when accelerating from a stop. Not sure if I was gasing it too much but it seems like you really need to gas these things to get going. I usually use my legs to push off from the get go. But I stayed under 10 mph.

The turning on these arent that great and I adjusted my handle bars for full turning. Also, these things are kinda loud. I was driving along with my sisters and a cop passed by and gave a "what the hell is that?" type look as we put put along. He didnt really care though.

:p

BTW.. damn these things are fun! Im gonna take some pics.

Whats up guys... is saw this thread and i thought i would contribute....

I just purchased 2 pocket bikes form friend who is importing and distributing these mini crotch rockets. purchased them for 325.00 each.

As for modification... mine stock only ran (according to the cheep'O meter) around the number 30-32. the other one was hitting 32-34. After doing modifications to the motor, internal mods i am now pushing 42-44 a gain of avg 10. Keep in mind i am 215lbs and my little brother is 170lbs and i can pull away from him and keep going with the modified bike.

Actually after tuning RC car motors for 4 years these things work the same way very identical. my goal is to hit the magical 60+ number on that meter.

If there are any meets on these bikes i will bring both of them, any one is welcome to ride and feel the HP. The problem i am trying to figure out is how to get more torque out of these things.
I have one motor in parts right now which i hope to gain more torqe than horsepower.

keep in mind my mods are all internal i didn't change the exhaust, filter, this rocket key which i think is not needed (advances timing 5 deg for more RPM).

lets get a meet going i want to race some guys that have all the bolt on mods vs my internal mod bikes, one will have the exhaust and filter witht he same internal the other is bone stock with internal mods only :disco:

I want to get a couple helmets through CycleGear.com. Does anyone know how to figure out the size of the helmet that will fit your head?

Is there some way to get a rough reference point of size without ordering and returning helmets multiple times?

helmet size :

I used a measuring tape to take the measurement of my head at the forehead area. Then I matched it with this chart.

Well it's some what difficult to explain it's somethign i had learned over the 2 years from tuning 1/5 scale cars which are 25cc engines. They work identical so the same modifications applies. It's basically adjusting port timing advancing them a certain degree, changing how the cumbustion chamber burns fuel and the intake tract.

it's all measurements your basiclaly grinding away material to a specific measure ment using a degree wheel and some calipers. opening the exhaust, intake, and transfer ports.

i am going to fool aroudn with my bikes more but i will be offering this service soon in the next week or so. i want to see if you mod the engines according to bolt on mods if it will react positively or negatively. because right now with a stock bike i am able to get it up to 44mph steady. but i am going to see how that modified motor reacts to the exhaust, intake, possibly a 40mm carb.

but i ordered a bunch of parts to test out so i will have some type of a result soon. right now i just have a bad ass stock bike with internal engine work.

The problem with your pocket bike is carb adjustment. your problem is not a fuel cut but a fuel flood.

There is an adjustment needle on the side of the carb. real hard to get to but i suggest you learn how to tweak it

basically i would reccomend to do this... turn it clockwise untill it stops don't crank on it or the tip of the needle wil be flattened and you will never get the right mix or find a replacement with out purchasing a new carb.

Turn it all the way in count out 5 180deg rotations counter clock wise. Start the bike hop on it (don't ride it just put load on it and mash on the throttle. if the bike bogs and feels like it's trying to go but it won't it's too lean, if it bogs but you notice if you back off a bit it takes off then your too rich. i find that the needle is around 4.5 to 5.5 180deg turns out from optimal but each motor is made differently and trust me none are the same!!! the casting of the inside is a joke.... no quality what so ever just mold and slap together.

with a properly tuned carb you should hit 40mph no problem but it will take tons of room to get it up to speed.

Cant wait!

I'm thinking about selling my bike. It's two weeks old, it's on the second tank. Bike is stock except for the exhuast (I'm keeping the filter). It's a custom made that picked some mid-top end power. It has no silencer, idles louder them stock but under WOT is quieter. I've gained 8+MPH on this mod alone and I'm a pretty bike guy, 6'2 215lbs. Bike handles and leans very well. Paid 450, Asking $400 w/ exhuast. Comes w/ tool pouch, charger and mixing bottle. Pick up only oir can arrange to meet in SD.

Thanks a bunch, thats very helpful!

Do you know anyway to decrease vibrating in the handle bars. My sister's bike vibrated in the handle bars more than mine does.

Also, is there anyway to put a silencer in the exhaust... she wants hers a little quieter... lol

Thanks SPCD! I will give the carb adjustment a try tonight. I havent looked too closely at these engines, but it does sound like they are the same setup as RC engines!

Helmet wise, I use my Simpson AutoX helmet. Its about half the size of my entire bike! I look like a SpaceBalls character riding around on the streets.

Whats up guys!!!!

Well i just finished modding the Red Bike that i have. that MF hits 52 on the speedo... i know it's not correct but bone stock that POS was hitting 30-32 now it tops out to 52... The bad part is the motor mount on the left side broke ($40 bucks plus a week of waiting). It's part of the crank case that broke off so i was not able to fine tune the carb. The bike was running lean up top because it would hit the Mph right away but top out too quick. The blue bike it would read 45-48mph and hold it there but it's able to pull on the red bike. But the blue was running slightly fatter than the red one.

I know the red one will go faster than the blue just need more seat time to fine tune the carb.

I did figure out how to get more torque out of the 49cc motor. The red bike has tons of it. it requires no pushing to get it rolling and i am a big 220LB guy!

if i go to the meet today i will bring the blue bike for people to toy with and to get a few races

FYI these bikes are stock not a single bolt on mod it's all internal mod.

I just bought a 49cc and I am picking it up from the warehouse today.

If you are riding in the daytime, and don't need the lights, and use the pull start, does the battery need to be charged?

Also, the first tank or two, you have to use a 20:1 mixture, and then you can go to a 50:1 mixture, right? I am going to use 91 octane, I've heard that you'll get more speed from 91. It doesn't hurt the motor, I hope.

Since these things are air cooled, how long can you ride it until you need to stop and let it rest?

Thanks for the help.

ok the formula on that one that is going 52mph....
i take it most of you guys know how a two stroke motor works... becuase thats the only your going to understand what these dimensions mean.

Exhaust port 20Deg advance
Intake port 32deg advance
primary transfer port was enlarged and ported to direct flow.
Piston was shaved 15mm dia from center out (change combustion chamber) 1/16" deep.
Cylinder head was shaved 1.5mm to increase compression. this increases torque. the blue bike i have was shaved .75mm and it seems to have more mid range.
Intake manifold was portmatched, exhaust manifold was port matched, entire cylinder head was polished and plated with moly.
piston skirts was plated too....

it's not an easy task i have done this for 2 years so it's something i have learned over time.

the only tool you will need to do this correctly is a degree wheel. that is the crutial part in measuring port timing and when intake and exhaust timing overlap.

takes a total of 5 hrs to do the motor, and 1 hr to put it back on the bike.

also i run a 25:1 Synthetic 2 stroke oil mixed with 91crap gas.

Sigma Pi (Co-Driver)
06-14-2004, 07:05 PM
BTW when you have a chance take apart those bikes and use threadlocker....

i was running my other bike yesterday comparing internal mods vs bolt on mod bikes... i kept pulling on them but the mounting screw for teh rear brake came loose and it rubbed against the rear disk. so now i have 2 broken bikes....
or atlest it's down for the moment.:(

the faster i go the more these things fall apart.
