View Full Version : Ground Control Rattle/Banging/Noise problem! HELP

I installed my Ground Control springs and KYB/AGX struts this weekend. I lowered the car exactly 1" from stock. I have a rattle comming from all 4 corners now. I have deduced that it is the top hats for the springs banging against the strut piston rods. The hole in the middle of them is just a bit too big to fit snugly on the piston. Anybody else deal with this problem? Anybody have any ideas?

I wonder if this is the same problem I'm having, but only on my front passanger side. I thought at first that it was the speed sensor bracket, but after tying it down better it made no difference. I never really thought that it might be the hats, but it is very possible. You can't really have a "perfect" fit around the piston so the hats must move some.

To assure myself that it was the hats I wrapped electrical tape around the top of the piston and jammed the hat up over it. What do ya know, the noise went away. It is not a permenant fix though because it came back in a day when the tape wore through. I think there is alot of play, more than needed, maybe GC sent the wrong ones?

Did you safety wire or zip-tie the hat to the spring?

Yep. I zip tied it through the hole in the hat and around the top coil.

I know this is an old topic, but I'm getting a squeaking sound from my front passanger side as well. It's not the tires rubbing, as there's absolutly no marks on the tire whatsoever...not even dirt being removed http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/wink.gif Did anyone ever find a good fix for this? The guy at les schwab tire (where I got everything aligned) said it might be a dry seal, but couldn't find anything wrong by inspecting it... Any idea's?

I am not going to act like this may be a good remedy to your problem BUT! Wait about a week or two. For some reason, once the stuff settled back in, my noises went away. I know this doesn't seem logical but I can just report what happened to me. I was all set to rip the stuff back apart and... Silence...

The noise on mine went away a couple weeks ago. Very strange to have a noise for about a month, then it goes away. Oh well. I'm not complaining http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/biggrin.gif

Corey & Strepto:

I've had my GC/AGX coilovers installed for about a month now. I noticed rattling from one of the rear corners from the beginning, but wasn't sure if it was the strut or the hatchback. I did a 500 mile trip last weekend, including about 75 miles on gravel, with lots of rattling. But when I drove the car yesterday, the rattle was less evident. Do these things just take a long time to break in and/or settle? You've had yours on longer than me -- any rattling now?

BTW, I'm running 10-inch springs, 250front/200rear.

I no longer have any rattling. I do have road noise coming from the fronts, but that's due to having the Tein adjustable PBMs. Besides that I don't have any noise.
